All those little details definitely deserve all the love. I also really appreciate how closely they've looked at the original creatures and worked from there, most of them are an improvement from 2016's creatures imho. The bigger environments are fantastic and I couldn't help but stand still to look at it after clearing the area.
So glad you covered this one.

7:12 "there is an armor progression to show the levelling up" - referring to the costume designs
Interesting fact is that there is no progression and it's the same costume player wearing from the first level to a last one and all of this illustrations is just the iterations they did just to come up with the final idea so it would fit perfectly.
Another interesting thing that in DOOM 2016 Hugo Martin - director of the game himself came up with the design of the main character. And that's not surprising since just before that he finished his work on Pacific Rim as a concept artist namely designing Gypsy Danger - the main mech of the movie.
So it's not really surprising that Doom Slayer's helmet is somewhat reminicent of the head of that giant mech.

Ahh, my friend was showing me this game..it’s really gorgeous, definitely does share that Dark Souls-style visual storytelling. I saw this one boss that had this giant shield with a face on it, and it swung around some weapon that reminded me a lot of the umbilical cord from OoK from Bloodborne-but definitely with its own flavor!

Fun fact: I believe that boss is modeled after the old Hell knight/Baron of Hell sprites from the classic Doom games.

I still haven't finished this game! (So many other games to finish and so little time) But more than the character design, I was in awe with the environments, really loved those. The exultia map specially, and that was only the second level !
By the way, I would love if you could review the art of Prey, and I would recommend you to check the game not only for the gameplay, but also the design. I really dug the retro futuristic look of that game, without making it a copy of Bioshock: it has its own "flavor". www.parkablogs.com/content/book-review-art-of-prey
