I see people constantly underestimate how important investing time is when it comes to creating art. This attitude has gotten into me and makes me feel worthless if I cannot complete an illustration in a few hours. Sometimes it is so bad I feel difficultly even starting the drawing because I do not trust I will make it happen in the "right" amount of time. Hearing you value time and dedication in your projects gives me a little relief and trust in myself -and I doubt I am the only one. Thank you for this.

Again, I really like the P2P vs Straight Ahead analogy applied to drawing. Don Bluth is my favorite animator. I have several of his movies and instructional DVDs. I'm glad to hear how fanatical you are about the LOTR's Trilogy DVD and BTS because now I realize I am not alone. I still watch them. Also, I have several different box sets of the same DVDs and BluRays. However, I don't have any of these art books. Thanks. I will look for them.

I've been loving these videos for so many reasons.
1 - We get More well thought out videos from Adan!
2 - Most of the Art Books are just plain incredible.
3 - We get to see the passionate and optimistic side of Adam that we don't see as often in other videos.
4 - It feels as though these videos are a little less straining / draining on Adam, thus keeping him more motivated to keep creating awesome Artwork / Videos to share!
A question for Adam Duff, are all the paintings hanging in your office space there your own or just ones that inspired you? With them out of focus it is hard to tell.
I'd love a video showcasing them! I also had a thought that maybe you put up stuff related to your videos subject and if so that is amazing. It be insanely EPIC if for each Art Book you did you had up any other related artwork in the background meant only for those hardcore fans.
I appreciate Lord of The Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien having drawn so much inspiration from his real life that it even translates into the final production of the films. A true testament to how inspirational his works were, that the entire production staff would put in such effort to preserve his original vision. The love and respect for his works is quite abundant.
However... I have never seen the entire trilogy, nor have I seen the Hobbit. I still love the world he created, I did read the Hobbit and I have seen most of the movies just not all at once.
I felt your message at the end, truly felt it. I often doubt myself for being so slow at drawing, which often leads to over valuing speed. But speed is just one of many metrics by which to measure yourself, or anything really. "Measure Twice, Cut Once." A carpenters motto / saying, though it may not apply much to art... Any student needs to know what methods they SHOULD use to measure themselves. Accurately measuring is important in all things, that includes personal growth. Unless personal growth is not your primary objective, in which case you needn't worry yourself with such trivial things!
Excellent Video as always, your passion and effort are not going to waste. The quality of each video seems to improve quite steadily. And I'm fairly certain you're quite aware most if not all the pressure to do so is entirely from you. I doubt most people watching are expecting higher quality with each video, I for one value your insight, wisdom, and loving passion infinitely more than I value any of the pretty lighting or camera work you've been using. But I certainly have noticed it, and appreciate it as well. As it is all part of your own personal Artistry.

I have no doubt that if the studios had simply let Jackson and Weta spend more time to fully develop the Hobbit's production instead of rushing its release, that they would have made something truly enduring. Even in the product we have, we can see pieces of their love and passion in it.

So how would you sort the darlings from the seedlings?

But it made a huge impression on me how Alan Lee and John Howe talked about drawing Middle Earth like it was a real place they were sketching. I also remember Howe talking about how Alan Lee was a big art hero of his, and to me they were both infinitely better than me (they still are, but at least I know how to draw now nearly 20 years later!)

Dude a bad drawing needs genetically modified seeds And to be chucked! When I can bear it about 50 crap drawings will get me to the modified seed. There is also great joy in destroying your no hopers instead of hanging on. Too many artists who don’t do the commitment to evolving hang on to 20 and 50 yr old works that were almost ok. I used to do that and am now ruthless. If there’s a kernel, a grain of use in something I quickly snap it and store on system.. but I also need to get ruthless with ps, procreate ai and painter......:). The most serious artists I have known Never let Anyone see their sketchbooks! We are none of us these days born from “ They drew as they pleased” stock. Sadly.
