Not eligible for PHEV tax credits, so it's too expensive for a VW, and would cannibalize Q7 sales. That's why WV created the Atlas for the NA market. Pity, as the size is better for urban NA drivers.
As a BMW driver, speaking specifically of the interior design and apparent build quality (with as much limitation of perception one can have through a phone), surprisingly this VW looks not so far apart from a mid-range BMW!
I liked the simplicity of the non-facelift model. I need to see in person to decide if I like the front / rear light bars and new infotainment system. On videos, I'm not sure.

The exterior looks dated, however I like the back. The interior is beautiful. At this price, they could have given it a more desirable exterior.. Thanks!
x550e is much bettercar i had x45e , and i am a vw fan , but its no contest the levels of luxary and driving plesure and tech and looks are just much better and price wise they are the same
Certainly would agree when it comes to driving performance/experience that the X5 50e is the better plug-in hybrid, just as long as you can avoid the drive-train / OS software issues such as number of buyers of this model are encountering since the LCI upgrade from the 45e. But generally in terms of finish/styling/equipment, don’t think the X5 feels more luxurious or premium than the Touareg with the interior improvements that this facelift model has, assuming both to be specced to a comparable level. Rather the difference is a matter of taste or preference, and whilst acknowledging the benefit of the Sensafin seats offered in the X5, the styling of it IMO a little fussy and just a bit pretentious with those fake front side air vents and semi fake exhaust pipes not joined to/fully a part of the exhaust system as on the Touareg. And the X5 is rather let down/compromised by cost cutting measures such as no longer (in the LCI) having comfort access on rear doors, nor for a while now mechanism in the rear load area to fold rear sears, nor reclining rear seats, and front seat ventilation that is quite weak. Moreover the Touareg is a quieter, better insulated vehicle and more capable off road with greater wading depth and more practical with features such as doors that extend down over the sills so you don’t get your trousers dirty on alighting from it! Lights also seem to be superior on the Touareg, which in any case, as well as all the tech options that the X5 offers, has the option of Night Vision which you can’t get on an X5. And whilst the list price of the X5 50e is similar to the Plug-in Hybrid Touareg - the R that is, not the model tested here which is the entry level Plug-in Hybrid - the reality in the UK at least is that across the range the Touareg works out to be less expensive than the X5 with a comparable level of equipment, taking into account also VW manufacturer’s deposit contribution (none from BMW currently) and level of dealership discounting respectively.
The first generation of Touareg was realy solid as rock...with every generation is getting worse with the long term reliability...and yeah its naive to think that CEO's care about my comment...😅..but they should read the Forums heh
You call this a facelift? The design is absolutely ancient and about as exciting as a German cement salesman. A new generation is long overdue. No wonder VW isn't doing well in China.
It’s already dated boomer design led by focus group. Large grill and back horizontal line? Yuk. It looks like what cars were supposed to look 10 years ago.
What did you expect? A facelift is a decent update. And the design may be old, but it’s clear and classy. I don’t like it when all cars look like a peace of soap.
Love VW vehicles, spend a lot of time in some models, but why there are so weird in design... I dont want to pay for Porsche, Audi, whatever... Just give me beautiful VW..
The infotainment UI is atrocious and looks outdated. It’s 2024 and they still haven’t figured out how to make the software lag-free. Good luck VW, you’ll need it.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ruclips.net/video/S1aNZeoatmE/видео.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ruclips.net/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/видео.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ruclips.net/video/6vXePQi_MAk/видео.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ruclips.net/video/u94YXJ72UTA/видео.html More and more natural materials are rising: ruclips.net/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/видео.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: ruclips.net/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/видео.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ruclips.net/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/видео.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
@@autogefuehl My friend you will never save environment with leather alternatives, think just how much CO2 and energy is needed to build , equip and run factory for synthetic textile. People need to travel to work and yes whole factories (in 3rd world countries run on coal ) were build just for this purpose but you can cherry-pick everything I guess... It is up to you what you beveling in ... I fully respect that
Manufacturers have the exact CO2 calculations. It is 85 % less CO2. However to me, the Co2 is the side-effect. Main aspect is sparing animal lives and not paying to have animals tortured and slaughtered
I honestly don't get any reason for this car to exist.. VW is not anymore trying to show off as a luxury brand and the only reason this to exist would be as a 7 seater, more premium than a kodiaq etc and cheaper than BMW and Mercedes... yet it's only 5 seater... wasted potential

Is it possible to open the car with a smartphone?
If you buy car like this, you should drive it at least 10 years. Nice car
Greetings and Happy New Year from Arizona USA Autogehfuehl, oh and to also the fake exhaust police. Thanks for your dedication in 2023. Can’t wait for more videos in 2024
Happy new year m8!
For the cost of this type of car having high gloss piano black is criminal. Scratches and looks horrible after a few weeks.
Excellent car, I'm considering it as an upgrade from Tiguan some time in the future. Thanks for the review Thomas )
cheeres m8 !
By far the best looking Volkswagen. I do think the R and R Line adding the dark interior is not that great. Much prefer the Elegance trim.
Come VW Bring this to the US market please
as in a country where is the car tax, plug-in hybrid makes sense, but at the same time, 3 L diesel is much better option On a fuel consumption
LOVE IT but I love my Tiguan R a bit more 😊
The exterior looks dated, however I like the back. The interior is beautiful. At this price, they could have given it a more desirable exterior..
Thanks!
When is the movie with the new Panamera ? I can't wait ;)
Spring smth i guess!
VW must bring back 4.0 TDI V8 engine
You mean V6? They never had a V8 TDI. Rather a V10 TDI.
Maybe in your country
Surprisingly, I do not like the lit up badge in the rear. I thought I would like it, but it just doesn't look as nice as imagined.
I thought there is an option to turn it off in the infotainment system?
I hope the quality of the car stay good...😮😮
Vw spokesman Thomas :)
3,0 tdi 🤝
Review alert!
x550e is much bettercar i had x45e , and i am a vw fan , but its no contest the levels of luxary and driving plesure and tech and looks are just much better and price wise they are the same
Have to agree: ruclips.net/video/GX36dtvVAKM/видео.htmlsi=61AGGIMfDbEHc8he
Certainly would agree when it comes to driving performance/experience that the X5 50e is the better plug-in hybrid, just as long as you can avoid the drive-train / OS software issues such as number of buyers of this model are encountering since the LCI upgrade from the 45e.
Big mama from VW.
Nice looking car.
For example, for example, for example
The first generation of Touareg was realy solid as rock...with every generation is getting worse with the long term reliability...and yeah its naive to think that CEO's care about my comment...😅..but they should read the Forums heh
You call this a facelift? The design is absolutely ancient and about as exciting as a German cement salesman. A new generation is long overdue. No wonder VW isn't doing well in China.
Who cares about China?
It’s already dated boomer design led by focus group. Large grill and back horizontal line? Yuk. It looks like what cars were supposed to look 10 years ago.
They slap on chasing LED blinkers. Hooray! It's a facelift
What did you expect? A facelift is a decent update. And the design may be old, but it’s clear and classy. I don’t like it when all cars look like a peace of soap.
You know looks are subjective right?
I still feel like the touareg should be priced lower than it is now. There should be more difference from audis Q7-8 than the touareg
glad vw went back to this angular design. could the replacement of its ceo got to do with it?
Come on Thomas .. when I saw TSI 😅… should be a tdi.. Touareg needs tdi engine..way more desirable than tsi version
Yeah i agree ..only tdi.
V8 TDI...
V10 😂
Love VW vehicles, spend a lot of time in some models, but why there are so weird in design... I dont want to pay for Porsche, Audi, whatever... Just give me beautiful VW..
This isnt facelift this is inlift, interior restyle 😁
That rear illuminated VW logo is horrible. Makes the vehicle look cheap.
The infotainment UI is atrocious and looks outdated. It’s 2024 and they still haven’t figured out how to make the software lag-free. Good luck VW, you’ll need it.
👍🌟🌟👍
Don’t like the new rear lights
Not sure if VW will be the Nokia in the Automotive world. 😢
I wish we got this instead of the ATLAS............
That illuminated crap at the back is shit. Sat behind one of these at the lights...looks like some cheap 90's tunning....
USA
Thanks for the review. Nice SUV but not good enough from VW to only offer animal skin seat covering
cheers ! keep following !
The new ToeRag looks the same as the old ToeRag 🤷♂️
Grey-Hybrid.
Not convinced by this vehicle but at least you get a proper dashboard not a cost cutting stuck on piece of rubbish!
"Then Interior, here with some capacitive BS touch buttons"
bullshit

This red vw logo is shite
ultimative alte-leute-karre
Thank god just animal skin.. most important information for everybody
A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ruclips.net/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/видео.html
And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ruclips.net/video/6vXePQi_MAk/видео.html
New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ruclips.net/video/u94YXJ72UTA/видео.html
More and more natural materials are rising: ruclips.net/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/видео.html
Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: ruclips.net/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/видео.html
For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ruclips.net/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/видео.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
VW is not anymore trying to show off as a luxury brand and the only reason this to exist would be as a 7 seater, more premium than a kodiaq etc and cheaper than BMW and Mercedes... yet it's only 5 seater... wasted potential
funny car, must be popular among millionares and billionares who are willing to drive cars for simple folks but wait is this condradiction?
I think the design is worse than new skoda karoq or kodiak😂
The back is ruined unfortunately. All new VW have the same stupid red light
