Thanks guys for the advice. I was actively listening to the podcast when I was attacked by a bear. Actually, I probably would have heard the bear if I wasn't listening. Anyways, I took your advice and wiggled free and climbed a tree and did a cannonball move right onto the back of the bear. It worked wonders. The bear ran off and I was left unscathed. Thanks to the Nateland podcast I survived a bear attack. #blessed

My cousin works for a travel agency. He won a trip to the Yukon as a performance bonus. He was very excited, it was something he always wanted to do. The week before he was supposed to leave on the trip, a Kodiak smashed through the door of the cabins, where he was planning to stay, and killed two people. He decided to trade in the tickets for a trip to the Bahamas.

I think the phenomenon that Nate said he looked up about thinking of the worst things in your head about loved ones is called the “Imp of the Perverse.” It’s basically the notion to think of the most wrong thing one could do in a good or fine situation, such as death.

I recently moved from the US to Germany and got a Snickers at the gas station. I took one bite and threw it away; the Snickers here taste nothing like an American Snickers but maintain the look and feel almost exactly. I was so shocked at how a country could mess up a Snickers so badly I thought there was something wrong with me so I had my Mom send over an American Snickers and did a blind taste test with my wife. With no hesitation both my wife and I could instantly tell the difference between the two. If you guys have a PO box I would be willing to send you a German one to taste on the show. Great episode as always!

Nate - Just wanted to thank you in advance for saving me from certain death from a future bear attack. Just days before episode 105, the “Hey Bear” ’sode cleverly disguised as a candy ’sode, my neighbor saw a bear cub just about a football field’s distance from my house here in Lexington, KY. That same day, neighbors about a half mile away saw the mama bear pictured below. Thanks to you, I now know to say “HEY BEAR” when I’m walking my dogs, and that if I am attacked, to stand my ground and cover my neck…or zig zag if I get a chance to run. Always zig zag, then dive to the right. Or climb a tree and kick. But whatever I choose, I’ll be saying HEY BEAR. Thanks again for this educational wisdom that will certainly save my life. See you from the front row in Louisville on BOTH Nov. 10 and 11. And see Dusty this weekend in Lexington!

Then one Saturday, we happened to be walking by that Tim Horton’s, and I said, “hey look at that, You don’t see those very often.” So we went in, I ordered one donut. I must say I am dismayed by the hate speech spewed about the Milky Way Midnights. They are AMAZING. I know this because in junior high, back in the 90s when they were called Milky Way Dark, I saved my money to buy a 6 pack of them for my Dad for Christmas. I shopped early, wrapped them and put them in my closet to avoid the temptation of eating one. Alas, the wrapping paper was no deterrent and I had to try one and re-wrap the others. The glorious discovery was too much to handle, and by the end of the week I had eaten all 6 and my Dad had no Christmas present. Bad daughter, but GREAT candy bar!!! :-D

My husband owned a trucking company and believe me, Dusty, you do NOT want to exit the freeway via Runaway Truck Ramps! Yes, we have them in the mountain ranges of California, coming north out of Los Angeles, and if you see a big rig with his brakes smoking/on fire, get out of the way! A side effect of the runaway ramp, however, is that all the force of that forward motion hitting deadweight sand, jerks your axles out, will twist your frame, cause you to roll--it's really hard to stay straight within the ramp when you're out of control!

    Hello Folks!
As a sales rep for The Hershey Company I could not wait to chime when I saw this weeks topic. I am the Greg Warren of the Hershey world and found his P&G episode absolutely hilarious!
Aaron mentioned the paper on a Hershey Kiss is called a plume but did you know each piece of a Hershey Bar is called a Pip.
As mentioned, Reese’s is doing big things these days including Big Cups filled with potato chips as well as Pretzels. Kit Kat has also been taking some big swings with new flavors like dark chocolate and mint, birthday cake, blueberry muffin and soon churro flavored.
I can’t believe when talking about the Kit Kat Jingle that no one referenced the episode of The Office where Andy can’t remember how it ends. Jim butts in and won’t let anyone help him with the lyrics. He spend some time guessing with tons of wrong answers. “Break me off a piece of that …applesauce?” Truly one of my favorite scenes from the show.
Thank you guys for helping pass the time traveling between retail stores. The addition of Dusty is incredible to the dynamic of Nateland and Brian was surely missed this week!

This episode for some reason seemed to flow a lot better then normal. it was smooth.. there weren't any lulls. I think it was funnier than the podcast normally is?? I can't quite put together what change might have caused this but I REALLY like the dynamic of this episode. A LOT. maybe stick with this format forever?

I'm with Aaron on Milky Ways. One of the best. I'm glad Nate and Dusty finally came around to them. Have you tried chocolate covered gummy bears? They sound awful but are amazing! Best of both worlds...you get chocolate and chewy fruity candy.

Great episode. I think it might have been appropriate to title it “hiking” rather than “candy” but par for the course it ended on a cookie discussion.

Sounds like we need a Tom Cruise episode. I know for a fact we’d be having a good time on that pod.

Somewhat related to the candy myths.. when I was very young, my cousins convinced me that your head would actually explode if you left the sourest Warheads flavor in your mouth too long. They proceeded to leave said flavor in their mouths until I was crying thinking that I was about to see their heads blow up in front of me.

As an Idahoan its fun hearing you Tennessee boys talking about bears, because up here we talk about them more like how Bogus talks about his squirrels.

Definitely an ageist comment from Weber like the grill Aaron. I was with you when you said whoppers were an old people candy! But Skip Bo? How dare you?! You watch your mouth young man! I’ve probably played Skip Bo longer than you’ve been alive. Good day!

I was waiting for Nate to say "Who came up with the bear survival guide....another bear?" Reminds me of the snake bite story from the USO trip.

I had those exact same bear thoughts recently! You telling me a bear is catching prime Barry Sanders? How many of these bear attack victims ran a sub 4.5 40? Something to ponder

Also, buttefinger has got to be one of the worst candies for wrecking the pits of your molars. Followed closely by Skittles, Dots, and especially Jujubes. I consider myself a connoisseur of the non-chocolate candy varieties. Basically the junk candy. My favorites.

Thanks to this episode, I learned that 3 Musketeers used to be Neapolitan. Ever since Aaron mentioned that I've felt sad that I never got to eat them

I imagine the real reason that Brian was not in attendance for this episode is because the only candies that he has experience with are Werther’s original and those weird peppermint candies that old people always seem to carry.

    Great stuff once again, fellas!
I love how Aaron was dissing a Snickers because it’s like a whole meal with the addition of the peanuts. However, he loves a Take 5, which is like a Snickers PLUS a pretzel. Take 5 is the real trail mix bar here.
Thanks for all the laughs and God bless!

Henry Rowengartner! What a great, low key reference from Dusty! My son plays pony baseball and he's never pitched without me yelling, "Give him the hot, stinky cheese!" He has also never heard me say that without him shaking his head in embarrassment.

I played club volleyball in high school and sometimes at tournaments we’d play 2-3 games in a row without time to eat anything. When our blood sugar levels and energy got so low, my coach would give us all a Snickers bar. He said the combination of the sugar and protein from the peanuts would give us enough energy to play another game until we had time to eat an actual meal. I am here to tell you that it works, and if you’re ever in a crunch (no pun intended) and don’t have time to eat, have a Snickers!

Nate, I feel you about the animal fears and watching films. A week before going to Hawaii, I watched The Meg. Called my mom halfway through to tell her that we can no longer do stand up paddleboarding in the ocean. So terrified of the open ocean. Dumb mistake to watch any shark movies before actively going in the ocean.

There is an entire kids book series called Who Would Win. It educates on two animals and depicts what would happen if they fight. There is a Who Would Win, Polar Bear vs Grizzly.
