I think it's time to revisit this game Skal, the new public beta has some revamped combat that is a lot more fun. Less readable attacks, no more jumping spin attacks, they do a better job at guarding and parrying you, and a lot less enemies walking too close to you making combat wonky and not enjoyable. It's a pretty cool update. The game is updating much faster with more content thanks to all the new hires, and it no longer being made by one man.

There is a lesser known sword vr game called Sword of Gurrah. Its on steam and it basically allows you to duel people in vr. To keep people from just waving their arms out in front of them and winning weapons "break" when they hit a player or block unless they are hardened. When you harden your weapon it cannot break but you move slower so you cant run away and you can't deal damage with your weapon. They have things like shields and polearms too. i love it but the community is pretty small and the game is not well known. I think you should try it skal.
Watching someone who knows a lot about sword fighting irl play this is so fascinating. When vr tech improves and vr multiplayer becomes more popular, it's going to be neat seeing irl sword and gun experts dominate competitive games. Love this game; half the time, I forget that magic exists until mages spawn and even then I enjoy either blocking their fire spells or smack it right back at them. Otherwise, their latest update added armor which, when you consider games like D&D where Armor Class is a thing, makes you realize that more armor pretty much means you have less fleshy parts that are vulnerable... so even "high" hits means you hit the guy but it just deflected or bounced off their armor. The magic is fun though, if you haven't tried it. Being able to cast fire balls and pilot them with your hand is awesome as is the AoE gravity spell that creates a sphere without any gravity in it. I'll download that Albion pack; always love to see reproductions in VR and being able to use them that way!
I have to thank Skall for making me realize that what I found lacking in a katana was the duble edge of a longsword and the mobility of a saber. It's been my first time playing Blade and Sorcery today, with this sword pack. Now it becomes clearer how real sword combat used to happen. There is a choice between fighting effectively and fighting beautifully, and the choice is obviously effectiveness if one wants to win, so any unnecessary tricks fall aside. It is also curious to see the actual difference between using shortswords and longswords. While shorter swords provide some more room for maneuvering, longswords like Maximillian get stuck here and there and feel too clumsy. If it was a real fight to death, I would take a sword in the range between a shortsword and a bastard.
