    Hello Mark!
    First may I say that you are such a gifted artist. I absolutely love watching your videos. Your voice is so soothing and kind. I am new to the art so I am trying to learn all I can before I actually pour on a canvas. Lol I have made a few Christmas ornament balls.
    Anyway, sorry for the long post.
    Just wondering if the base you use on your dutch pours is just the thin consistency that you use for the pouring paint?
    One last thing, you and your husband seem to have a great relationship. I suffer from anxiety so your mindfulness series is very helpful to me. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️

I hope the people who purchase my online course also feel the same too. Yes absolutely make sure your base is the same consistency when doing Dutch pours - I do. You can make it slightly thicker (but only slightly) if you want to slow the flow down 💜🙏

    Hi Mark, I have just started to get into fluid art and I am still searching for similar products that are used in america or australia, for example an equivalent to Behr satin enamel for pearl cells. Was wondering what you have used?

    • @MarkJRatcliffeArt
      @MarkJRatcliffeArt  2 года назад

      Hi Sara - where are you based? I’m in the UK and I use various method to get cells:
      1) Naturally just using paint/PM/water to ensure fluid consistency. I also get cells by using a mixture of paint brands in the one creation.
      2) Australian Floetrol creates the lacing/cells
      3) I find that Mont Marte titanium white creates a lacing effect
      4) you can also add one or two drops of silicone oil in the paints you’re using to create cells (although the oil will require watching off once your piece is dry) - my least favourite approach
      I hope this helps?

    • @MarkJRatcliffeArt
      @MarkJRatcliffeArt  Год назад

      Thanks Pat. I purchase direct from the Owatrol website (I’m in the UK) or sometimes from Amazon. I don’t often use silicone. But if you do use silicone it will create cells but you will need to learn to wash off the creation before sealing with either varnish or resin as it leaves an oily residue on top once dry.

      @@MarkJRatcliffeArt. Thank you Mark, I am also in the UK. That is very interesting regarding the silicone oil, I have watched quite a few tutorials where it has been used and no one advises to wash off the oil. Love watching your tutorials, I find them so relaxing to watch.

    • @MarkJRatcliffeArt
      @MarkJRatcliffeArt  Год назад

      @@patgriffiths1315 thanks Pat. Yes you have to prepare the canvas once using silicone. Also check out Olga Soby - she talks about that too and the process to wash. I have a video coming out soon to show how to wash the canvas etc. yes absolutely she using Owatrol/Floetrol I add that to the paint (as that’s the pouring medium) then add the water to make it more fluid. I also use tap water as the water where I live is ok. If you live near cliffs etc and the water is chalky I’d use bottled or distilled. Or just boil your water and let it cook before using. If you don’t wash off the oil once dry, your painting will be patchy and the varnish or resin won’t stick to the areas that have oil on them - hope that helps

      Hi Jeanette! Thank you and so nice to meet a fellow UK pourer. For Dutch Pours I now only use paint and water (1:1 or 1:0.8 depending on brand). I also use Owatrol (UK version of Floetrol) for swipes. The Pm I used to buy was from an artist who made her own version but doesn’t do it anymore. However I do also use PVA Universal Glue mixture with water (70:30) which is great for ring pours etc. I don’t usually do blooms but I know sheelee art has a course online for that technique. I think Valspar is the right brand. Have you joined the Acrylic Pouring UK group on Facebook? I’m sure I’ve seen them discuss the bloom technique and they are a very helpful group. • @MarkJRatcliffeArt
      @MarkJRatcliffeArt  3 года назад

      An acrylic paint pouring medium is a substance which is used to help improve the consistency of acrylic paints by allowing them to pour more fluidly. Essentially, mixing acrylic paint pouring medium with your acrylic paints transforms them so that you can create acrylic pour art

    • @leanahbouvier9849
      @leanahbouvier9849 3 года назад

      Each artist uses a different pouring medium. It might depend on your region and what is available, as well as what technique you are doing. A lot of artists use Floetrol (sold in paint department of home improvement stores), or Floetrol mixed with other ingredients such as Liquitex gloss medium & varnish, or Elmer's Glue-All. Heads up on the Floetrol which I found out the hard way - shake it well before each use because it separates, and strain it to eliminate any lumps. Hope that helps!
