    Hey all. Some notes:
    - To clarify, the recording of the software is just to show you where the settings are. These are NOT the settings used for this test and like I said, you'll need to find the right settings for your own specific GPU.
    - The RTX 4070 Starfield result has been updated with the latest Nvidia driver installed, so it's up about 5% from the data you saw last week. Still far behind AMD unfortunately.
    - REMINDER: I will NEVER reply to your comment asking you to text a number or send a telegram message. Please do not fall for those scams!

Hello Nada, do you plan to test the undervolt on the 7700XT as well? I cannot know for sure, but I think the 7700XT is pushed up even higher on the efficiency curve, thus undervolting it can deliver even better results. I am hesitating to buy a 7700XT and this is a key factor in the decision. 😊

I honestly believe undervolting + slightly underclocking a GPU is worth the mild performance loss to help increase its longevity, especially with a locked frame rate.
I have an undervolted + slightly underclocked 6700 XT and locked my frame rate to 90 FPS with Radeon Chill. Keeps power draw low, temperatures cool and framerate consistent.

Nice overview of the process. Of course, the buyer will also need to consider that you can also undervolt the alternative, which is arguably more effective. On my 4070, for reference, performance is equivalent but average power draw is now around 140 watts (975mV@2700Mhz). One could argue that UV is an easier proposition on AMD as the tuning features are built in to the software stack while Afterburner (or some equivalent 3rd party utility) is needed for nVidia.
All of that being said, the additional VRAM and more attractive pricepoint of the 7800XT would probably have swayed me had I not already caved on the 4070.

@@Nayah9 Messy, really? You ever use GeForce Experience or the antiquated control panel? AMD's software stack is cleaner / more intuitive to use in virtually every capacity. One could make the argument undervolting might be easier on Afterburner but nVidia has no alternative that they own and develop themselves. Maybe you are unaware, but Afterburner could go away at any time (like when MSI stopped paying the dev at the start of the Ukrainian conflict). All of that being said, it's not like you can't use Afterburner to UV/OC Radeon cards if you prefer that interface.

I was going to add this as well. I run my 4070 (Palit GamingPro) at 1000 mV, 2850 core clock, +1100 memory clock, and in most games I'm basically capped at 150 W power draw. (Some games go up to 180, not sure what the difference is.) Not a massive performance gain over stock on this card (~2% in benchmark), but it's generally there even at lower power draw.

    • @Nayah9
      @Nayah9 9 месяцев назад

@@mordacain3293 Yeah, I mainly use GeForce Experience for the automatic driver updates and for the easy-to-setup overlay. Nothing wrong with it. I don't get your point.
I'm purely referring to undervolting software. Afterburner is undeniably better. Can you even do a custom curve on AMD software? That's pretty important for undervolting.
I'm not anti-AMD or anything. My PC runs on a 7950X and I love it. I'm just saying undervolting on AMD software looks a lot more convoluted and less effective than Afterburner.
Afterburner is not going away anytime soon. You're referring a story from about a year ago where it looked like the funds might be cut, but that has long been resolved and it only happened once, while Afterburner is decades old.
And yeah, I know you can use Afterburner with AMD GPUs. So why don't you?

Excellent tutorial! I undervolt my 6900XT with extremely similar tuning. I set power limit to -10% and voltage to 960mV. Min 2600 MHz, Max 2700 MHz. VRAM fast timing and max out frequency at 2150 MHz. This has actually increased my performance in most games and runs at 100W lower than default or default undervolt settings down to around 250W under load. I may have a rare case where the default is slower, but manually tuning the MHz to 100MHz window is what really worked well. I may have actually been throttling due to hitting hotspot 90 degree temps with stock settings even with the Sapphire Toxic Nitro which has radiator cooling

The past ~7years I’ve switched to being an avid undervolter ⚡⚡with my CPUs and gpus as I’ve been into ITX PCs🥰💪😇 (since Intel 4th Gen) and it’s proven to be worthwhile for me. I get a vg reduction in power draw, waaaay better temps and noticeably quieter fans🤩🥳etc! While it’s not for everyone, slower speeds on CPUs / GPUs doesn’t result (as shown here) in much of a fps reduction.

I'm a big fan of tweaking settings towards efficiency, primarily with knocking down the fan noise and amounts of heat output but also saving a bit on electricity is a good thing. Other than undervolting technologies like FSR and DLSS mixed with a framerate cap are also amazing tools. For example I'm playing Lies of P on a pretty high end build on an ultrawide 3440 x 1440 and with DLSS on Quality with a 120fps cap gpu is drawing 110 watts from the close to 400 it would draw if I was running native without a framrerate cap.

Interesting. The undervolt was most likely where AMD originally targeted the reference card to run, but then they turned it up when it couldn't consistently beat the RTX 4070. Once you take into account the fact that the RX 7800 XT is also a fair amount cheaper than the 4070, it looks like a big win...if you can live without DLSS and don't mind the reduced ray tracing performance, at least.

i dont care much about power consumption
and my settings was min 500 max 2815 v 1055 ram 2600 with non default ram timing idk how its called with default W setting
and since you had grapths with 4070 i was wondering what if i just use more undervolt option like yours as global settings or for easier for gpu games and run something like mine for others
like what the actual difference and if there reason to actually use different profiles for different games
and another question i wanted to ask
i had trouble with recording (any kind of it with adrenaline version higher then 23.2.1)
when i press record button nothing happens

undervolting your GPU or CPU or memory will never cause the hardware harm, never, it is physically impossible to bring hardware damage by reducing the voltage.
you still do however have the same risk as with overclocking/overvolting of file corruption when a crash or bluescreen happens or unstable memory during file copying, writing, reading etc due to instability, but this is not hardware damage. this is why a good recommendation after having tuned your hardware even if you've had no crashes and then tested for stability, is to make sure that during your tuning that you have not gotten any corrupted system files, so doing a sfc scan etc is a good precaution, last thing you want is to have a corrupted file keep being corrupted for a long time, because it might be corrupted in a way that the system still works, but over time it will read from the corrupted data and apply that as a value elsewhere, which might work fine for a while, but suddenly not work fine anymore later down the line.

I happily undervolt and am willing to lower the freq limit to run stabily at lower volts for most usage, then use a game profile to crank the card up in a game specific profile where high performance is needed, it's really easy to do in Adrenaline.
What I've seen is the 1% lows tend to be hit disproportionately in heavy gfx games, but my card needs frequency limiting to run stably at lower voltages and have max power reduction.
The games I play the most are strategy and don't need super high fps so I really can enjoy running cooler in summer to reduce noise, while having other setttings for a fast paced game.

It can make sense for systems with crap cooling (like prebuilts), or when heat is annoying. I am running a prebuilt that can't run a 3060ti at max 200w, but now I get 90+% of the performance at 150. But I mostly play games with frame locks, so I added some Nvidia SMI commands to limit clocks to 1230/1470(lower VRAM clock by limiting power state), and 1710/1830mhz for any scenario. I could feel the heat when whole system runs at 200+ watts, so that lowered heat is comfortable for me too.
Some benchmarking shows the slower profiles give RTX2060-3060 performance at around 80-100 watts, which allows for pretty much minimum fan speed even in this system with minimal cooling.

This is for sure some watts (not many, but still... ) . This means that when you match 200w , the AMD card uses LESS power for the GPU core than the 4070, since it "spends" more power on the larger 16G buffer. I know, its a nit-pick but, hey... :)

Nvidia can also be easily underpowered (I do it on my 3060Ti, it is set to 65% power limit), thus I think to compare an undervolted AMD card to a stock Nvidia one is not entirely fair. Still, the information is correct, good and important (I am considering to buy a 7700XT with undervolting it in mind).

Nice!👍 but there is "luck factor" involved right, as in how much a card can undervolt and still runs stable, like overclocking🤔

Yeah definitely. One of the reasons we didn't spend too much time getting the perfect undervolt. Hopefully most people can get at least a similar-ish result in terms of fps/watt, and anyone who spends the time can get even better results.

That is one huge card. Every time I see how big add-in cards have become, I feel old.

I just think that 12Gb of VRAM vs 16GB is going to be even More Important moving forward. You can see it in games Now at 1440p and especially at 4k, even upscaled

Assuming you don't run a lot of other hardware I expect it will hold up fine. I've ran a 2080 Ti off a 550 Watt Seasonic Focus PSU years ago for a giggle.
I mean you can give it a try at least, otherwise upgrade to a 650 or 750 w.

Those are strange twmperature numbers and I'm wondering if the undervolt affects sensor figures. The card uses 40% less power but GPU and RAM run slightly warmer.

Not really, notice how much quieter it is. 39 -> 32 dB(A) is a huge drop.
