Will IT RUN & RIDE? Garage Find Honda CT70 - First Start in Years

  • I found this old Honda CT70 mini bike in the back of a garage while rescuing a vintage car. I don't know the history of the motorcycle but it looks to have not been taken very good care of. The rusty exhaust is rotted in half, a bald dry rotted rear tire , and dirty oil among other issues. However the bike is all there so let's bring this classic Honda mini trail back to life. Was this a good deal or bad deal?

That’s an early 70s CT70. Key switch is one click for run and second click for lights. We had two when we were kids. A 3-speed auto and a 4-speed manual. We graduated from Little Indian and Bozo mini bikes to these…we were in heaven!! Great rugged bikes! Typical Honda quality. Ours were gold and green. The blue is very nice!

@@5150mxVW buy a stingray with the peddles off and motor plate already welded in. then you could run the rim with another half rim welded to that. put on a giant fan belt and bump start it. it would immediately GO, no clutch! used a string for throttle off the carb. you would stop by killing the engine and the whole bike would skid to a STOP! Super dangerous and of course it constantly broke. but we wanted to ride and that’s what we knew at the time lol

I’m in Connecticut, I bought a 1970 CT 70, I minted it out, I thought that my son would want to learn how to ride it, had no interest in it. I sold it and about six bills on it. Mine came with a metal fuel tank that was like Swiss cheese and a quilt blanket. Lots of holes and lots of patches. I installed a plastic one which was also a Honda OEM NOS. The carburetor always gave me grief. This bike was originally sold new in the state of Utah, it came with a high altitude carburetor, which was what ailed it, I had to run it with the choke on about a quarter of the way. Put the correct carb on it, good to go. For $500, you got it for a steal. I hope that your son enjoys it!!! Keep the paint side up and the rubber side down!!

My brother bought one from our friends in ‘78, and it ran like a champ, but burned a bit of oil. My brother was not diligent when it came to maintaining things, so less than a month after his purchase he locked the motor up tight as a drum-and that was that. There are lots of Honda collectors, so someone will want that gem.

Hi Jay really like your channel, always look forward to your videos. I got an orange one of these a few years ago. Its a 1969 KO automatic, probably same as this one. Engine was stuck and would not turn, but it was all there. I got a new Japanese jug and slug from CHP in Texas for less than $100. Also needed points and condenser, and cleaned and lapped the valves. Ran great for a while, then the kick shaft stripped and had to replace that. When I was 5, a neighbor had one of these brand new and would ride me on the back and let me shift

$500?? That’s a great deal. Running good and ready for the road I’d say it’s gotta be worth $3,500. I’d love to have me they’re cool. Hopefully Honda will bring the new Dax 125 to the states. I’ll definitely get one of those if they do.

Just a heads up for anyone using carb vat,Berrymans,or any carb cleaning solution..Never,ever,ever put any carb gaskets,o rings, seals,or any non metallic parts into the solution if you wish to use or re use them again... Metal parts,go for it, soft parts, do not... Carb cleaner of any kind does not get introduced to any plastic, rubber,or non metallic anything,ever.. A 50/50 or straight ReaLemon juice in a pan will clean any carb 💯 % plus won't hurt the gaskets, rubber parts as long as one doesn't allow it to boil full roil too long...Lemon juice is cheal, errr much more cost economical than carb cleaner,or carb vat is..And a jitterbug sander placed upside down with a tupperware,or pot with carb, and realemon makes an excellent cheapskate ultrasonic cleaner ... Try it,it works...

When I was 13 I got a brand new 1980 SUZUKI DS100. My first dirt bike , I loved it ! It got stolen out of our garage six months after I got it😂😂 30 days later it was recovered in Hartford. Of course it was beat. I didn't even want it anymore. I wound up selling it.

At 0:18 there is a 1974 or 75 Suzuki RL250 Exacta observed trials bike with a missing top end. Wonder what he's doing with that? They only made them for 2 years, but sold quite a few of them in the US and they're quite sought after now. Love the CT70 - such great little bikes and they'll go almost anywhere!

The RL250 appears to have an aluminum gas tank which makes it a 1974 model. I have one just like it.

I'm starting to think if honda never made mini bikes, nobody would have had any fun when they were kids 😮 or at least long lasting fun.

Is that the stock silencer on that kawasaki? Great video Jason. Those 70’s are so much fun. Its like a fat girl. They are fun to ride, you just don’t want your friends to see.
