I worked with Al at a theater in Boston while the Godfather was first showing. It was a play, The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and Al was beyond amazing. I was the kid who cleaned the theater, I was in high school, but Al was so kind to me and generous with his time. He talked with me about music, acting, actors, my plans after high school, he was such a great guy to me, the least significant person at the theater.
Vivek Sundaralingam Haven't you ever noticed how rude they are ? Talking on top of their guest , cutting them off especially when it doesn't go with their bias agenda ?
Al Pacino is an American treasure. A great actor who's been doing it for years and is still humble and down to earth. I'll never forget when I first saw him in "The Godfather"-All people could say upon leaving the theatre was "Who IS that guy?"
He was just an up and coming actor when he finished filming The Godfather. No one even knew his name, that’s the time he’s referring to. It was difficult for him during that time just like any new actor.
True. It is possible that he is kind of telling the truth. An accountant, lawyers. etc. probably handle all his money and he just spends it without seeing an actual check.
Al is such a nice guy. He is totally different to his big roles. It shocks me so much because I want him to be like Michael Corlene or Tony Montana lol
@Jack Arnsick You can never know. That said, I've never heard a bad story about Pacino. Everyone who's met him seems to say he's a nice and gracious gentleman.

Jack Nicholson, Robert Del Niro, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman are actors that i can't imagine how the world will react if they are gone....
I think not being very rich and the fact that al never left the theatre has kept him grounded and is the reason he never lost his spark or passion for acting unlike other older legends like brando
buster560 Pacino left the film industry temporarily during the 0s before getting back. Also recently, his accountant stole a lot of his money which is why he has to work for money again
+nenabunena NENA......HE'S WORTH OVER $145 MILLION....he was poor before and right after the Godfather.....but for a moment...not years......from 1973 ON WARDS...HE'S NEVER BEEN OUT OF A JOB.
i think this just shows how acting has changed. He wanted that role so much and he knew he could do it so well that he didnt care about the lack of money. Wish more actors nowadays were like him and werent just sellouts.
mousehead2000 yeah but I'm talking about a movie that means something but only pays 100000£ rather than the next gallactica five thousand that pays 3 million but will draw dumb crowds in! £100,000 is enough to put food on the table I assure you

What a refreshing thing it is to listen to Al Pacino! He is so natural and unaffected and confident in the ordinary way that non famous, non rich, but comfortable people are. I'm not detecting any "actorisms". Nice.
The last few seconds of this interview have completely changed my view of this man and actors of his level .... I'm impressed how he has played men faced with real , harsh realities for so many years when he has no recent personal understanding of daily life pressures ..."things just come to me, clothes, money houses " ... He is a true actor ... Free of daily real financial cares and so free to be a sponge of other people's experiences and pressures ... A skill indeed to be able to play those parts without recent transferable experience ... This is no criticism of him or other actors ... More a revelation to me of the skills they have to morph into other people, they have no experience of, other than the script and observation of other people's lives ... I will view actors slightly differently now ...
What? He was very very poor as a young man. As a kid, he used to steal for his parents etc. Before acting he even went to Sicily selling his body for sex, because he had no money.
this is how a genuinely modest person doesnt show off his modesty and answers the questions perfectly unlike some brats who will wear crocodile boot and gold chain for an interview
Al Pacino, greatest actor, he can play any part, & make it so believable. Glad you won an Oscar. You deserved many more Oscar's for all your great performances. Thank you Mr. Pacino, keep making movies.

I am 41 year old guy and i have a weakness for these great actors like Pacino, De Niro, Brando , Pesci , Hopkins when i see them in a movie or interview or just followed by paparazzi. In some way they have contributed in ''shaping'' me as a person. They have a deep world within them while they appear and are more humble than anyone we meet in daily basis. How selfless these true Hollywood stars are. I feel a bit sadness to see them grow old, not because they will die and this has come to an end, because we are all in this world temporarily, but knowing they can't be on screen forever to entertain us in such incomparable level. We should be glad we lived to have in some level ,part of our lives these amazing actors. I wish i could meet and talk to them.

Hes in my top 5. He did do jack and jill though....
He is most down to earth celeb I've ever met, and I've met most of them.
I hope the system doesnt change this girl who is doing the interview.. Didnt interupt what he wanted to say and didnt rush her questions. Excellent!
Completely agreed.

BROKE, you're not broke when you’re Al Pacino, you just walk into a bank and make them an offer they can't refuse!
That was Marlon Brando but sure.
He was just an up and coming actor when he finished filming The Godfather. No one even knew his name, that’s the time he’s referring to. It was difficult for him during that time just like any new actor.
