This is exactly why I run a coolant filter system. The first filter I changed 30 days after new heads and bulletproofing, I was amazed the junk that i found when i cut the filter open.
Can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your videos. Takes all the mystery out of the 6.0. Have done most of your preventive maintenance tips on my 06 f250. Thanks again and keep them tips coming
You do the best videos...I am going to need to do this.I replaced the oil cooler less that 1000 miles ago, and am getting deltas 15-20 towing. When I did the cooler, I also did a coolant flush (one of your videos) and then added a coolant filter...thought I was golden...guess not. Hope this solves it...thanks for all you do. Your videos have helped tremendously, and if I ever need major work, I'm bringing it there! You're not too far from Tallahassee :)
Paul Peeples I think the earlier video of Bill's on flushing was pretty basic & just covered changing the fluid out a few times with tap water & then flush once or 2x with distilled... A more comprehensive approach is to chemically flush it, them boys @ the Cummins dealership know whats goin on with Restore & Restore+ (Use both, each have their own separate applications in the coolant system theyre good for) -Youll be amazed at the amount of silicate garbage that will be evacuated from your coolant system
I bought a power stroke in Florida and DROVE through Atlanta without knowing about you and your shop.... WISH I would have known, I would have stopped by and have you guys clean up all the loose ends on my truck 🙌🏼
When mine failed in our ‘05, I was driving to Costco. No load. No tow. Nothing. Tested at 39* difference by the Ford dealer. Replaced under warranty and at about 40K miles.
My truck runs 190° f to 206° f in coolant and 198°f to about 215° f in oil it only runs that hot when i get into it. 75 mph on highway coolant 196-198°f oil 200-206°f
I had a chevy suburban that ran at 210-220 and hit 230 or 235 if ya pushed it.. it's near normal and probably just needs antifreeze to water ratio checked. my 6.0 runs at near constant 212 at idle after 20 minutes of driving
those numbers are crazy. my 2006 pulling a 9000lbs 5th wheel camper this summer when 96 degrees F out hit 208-210 ECT and around 215 to 218 EOT. normal driving empty is 188-194 ECT and 194-197 EOT.
My husband just used your video to backflush his oil cooler, last month. He did flush some funk out, similar to what you did here. He just did it a second time, and even more gunk came out (about the same amount). Is that abnormal??
Bill I need your advice I have a 2004 Ford F350 original engine stock everything 300.000 km 186.000 Miles the coolant and oil temps are as follows ect 200F eot 220F doing 62 miles hr no load and If I put the passing gear in and it blows coolant out the coolant bottle so I really hoping my EGR cooler is crapped out. What do you think bill I know it's hard since you aren't seeing the truck in person
Bill, does this same rule apply to 7.3 trucks? I have seen my 2003 7.3 oil temp get up to 250 pulling very heavy up a grade in very hot conditions in Phoenix. Truck is very healthy though. Thanks for all your great videos.
So I have 2005 6.0 Excursion everything is stock except the banks intercooler and exhaust, still running ford spec coolant my temps never get above 230 and deltas never above 10 pulling a 9000lb travel trailer last summer do I need to worry about my oil and EGR cooler?
Can someone explain what was going on with the egts is it normal that they get high and then you let off and they go down? Are they supposed to get real high like that?
Why do people on forums say the trucks should have very close eot and ect? Is running those hi temps okay? I have never ran such hot coolant temps but my eot have gotten to 237s
I got a 2010 ford f250 6.4 and my oil cooler is going bad are something clogged it up.. I get the ranch light and I never pull anything but I do long traveling and the like comes on about 100 miles down the road or so took it to the ford house they said its the oil cooler. 3k for it to be fix... could I get a coolent flush? and see if that would unclog it?
Could Someone please Tell Me what the Correct Deltas Should Be. I Been Hearing that a 15° Difference is the Max Allowed as per FORD. Just wondering because i Recently ( Just 4,000 Miles Ago ) Did the Complete Bullet Proofing on my 2006 6.0 Also Turbo and Injector Upgrade, and Many more mods. Also Deleted the EGR, and Switched to the Red Cat ELC-1 Coolant. And Replaced the Oil Cooler. Maybe this was the Mistake i didn't replace it with a Ford Cooler, used a XDP Cooler, said it was the Same Updated Design as Ford's. My Deltas are on the High Side. Highest i ever seen was 40°-45° Difference, after driven Hard for a While. Average is ECT 192° EOT 234° After driven on High Way for about 30 minutes. I Bought Truck Brand New Always serviced by me, Oil Always Changed Every 4,000 Miles and so on. Only had 81,000 Miles when everything was done. Due to EGR Cooler letting go. Now I'm approaching 86,000 Miles. Any Help would be appreciated. UPDATE I just recently did an Oil Cooler Flush Dropped my Oil Temperature about 30° I'm seeing temperature 204°-206° Now and also installed a Mishimoto Coolant Filter. It's starting to get Colder Out where i live and noticed my Temperature dropping Even Lower now, even on a Long High Way Drive. Before flush i was getting 234°-239° that was in 90° Summer Heat. Flushing the Oil Cooler really helped a lot.
You should check the delta under specific conditions: a 20 minute run @ 65 mph on a level highway with no load. If you're more than 15 degrees off in that test then you have a failing oil cooler (in a stock truck). With an EGR delete and a remote cooler, you might expect different conditions, so some additional research might be needed.
I have to questions for ya Bill I have an 06 and the fan clutch come on at 210 ect regardless of pulling or not is that normal eot is useally 1 or 2 degrees within that. And what is normal eot I believe I have a stuck open the most at because my eot is around 175 we cruzing around.
Bill I like your videos but I have a gas Super Duty e350. Aside from all the normal maintenance do you have words of wisdom for us gas SD owners? Love the channel love your sight.
Get a SCT X4 or a Edge insight so you can plug it into your OBD connector and monitor your temps.. kinda like a heart monitor at the hospital and will save you..
I get deltas of 20+ all the time running down the interstate Empty. But neither one of the temps get close to those temps, will I be OK as long as I don't get oil over say 225°f?
uselessgrant11 Better keep an eye on your EGR... Make sure you don't see any oil sheen in your coolant... But that seems to me like it's time to replace your oil cooler before it turns into a disaster.

I need that!!!! Lmao!!! Love the videos as well.
I noticed there's a coolant filter. was that not good enough to keep the coolant clean?
I need to know more about that step in the front bumper!!!! That's awesome

Yea I agree ☝️ my coolant never gets above 192 and oil I’ve seen at 223 when I’m in a tune running it hard!
your big highway hill made me lol, highways here lead thru the Rockies.
What kind of air PSI are you running through the douchemaster 1000?
Like 12psi
$1,500-$1,600 for an oil cooler replacement? Wow! What is the cost for the oil cooler flush then Mr. Hewitt?
Why not just put an external oil cooler on these trucks and reprogram the computer to kick the cooling fan on sooner?
BPD makes an adapter to run a manuel fan clutch of a 97 f250 and getting ride of the electric fan......
harry guy same problem on my ktm 690. simple solution is to place a switch with a lower temp switchpoint
Been running manual fan for years. Always works.keeps ect down under 195 no matter how hot it is outside. Easy upgrade.
I though that Bill installed collent filter for power Stoke engines that would be a great idea.
My husband just used your video to backflush his oil cooler, last month. He did flush some funk out, similar to what you did here. He just did it a second time, and even more gunk came out (about the same amount). Is that abnormal??
No. Never a bad idea to reflush . There’s so much silicone and junk in these engines to start with. Especially if let coolant degrade.
Is it bad if my delta is 45 degrees. Coolant is constant at 188. Oil at 233 with no load. Just highway speed. Think it cool be my oil temp sensor?
Any reason that a stainless pressure washer gun & swivels wouldnt work too well for making a Dooshmaster 2000?
coolant filter and a big ass external mount oil cooler...i figured you'd be for those things by now Bill
It was incorrectly stated in the video that the max delta is 20 degrees; it is 15 degrees per Ford TSB 09-8-3. Just my 2 cents.
What is the best coolant to use on these 6.0’s? Do you ever test the fluid and add the pellets (can’t remember their name) to help with cavitation?
What air pressure do you recommend when performing the flush?
Bill, does this same rule apply to 7.3 trucks? I have seen my 2003 7.3 oil temp get up to 250 pulling very heavy up a grade in very hot conditions in Phoenix. Truck is very healthy though. Thanks for all your great videos.

hood spacers and a switch controlled fan is the poor mans fix for this!

Does anyone have a Home Depot version of this? How much air pressure is being used here also?
In your opinion which psd is the best
Douche master 1000. I love this guy.
My oil temp are OK but my deltas are like 40...because my coolant never get over 160 or 170??
No

Should’ve used oem oil cooler or BPD
Buy a bulletproof diesel oil cooler, trust me. It takes it out if the valley and moves it to an external position.
What tuner do you use on the 6.0 L
thats why u pay 2500 for a bulletproof oil cooler its worth it just a bad design on oil cooler

What is the brand and possible model number of the flushing tool used in the video?
Jonathan Strait
OTC makes one. I think it’s OTC 6045

Great question
I’m at 8000ft and I never see above 205-210°. I imagine when I’m down at sea level later this year I won’t see over 195-200°

What is the max delta I would comfortably like to see with a 6.4?
The cost of purchasing a 6.0 or a 6.7.

mike Bynack he’s got a trailer up a hill. If it was unloaded on flat ground. That is where the 15 is a strict rule
