Do you roll to win or just go with the Flow? Trying to win every roll may make you feel tough but this isn't necessarily the best way to learn and improve your game.
The playful and creative approach can allow you to see positions and techniques that you might otherwise miss if you are only going for the Kill.
Some of this depends on your training partners but setting an intention to be more relaxed and to try something new can open up your game.
Joey opens up about his new BJJ mindset to become "Joe Berimbolo" and JT explains the role of drilling in skill development.

This is such an interesting Topic! I’m only a Blue belt but I have noticed that I have more fun when I’m fully relaxed, even when going against an upper belt or someone better. At least I can think about whatever happened and correct it. Great channel btw 🤙🏾🥋

This topic is a head melt tbh. I’m a pretty new purple belt and I’m still shaking after last night’s training session 😂 now, I’ve been exploring so much lately, slowing down and trying to go `creative' but everyone else is going Rambo as I’m the highest belt and what ends up happening is I’m allowing them gain position and then it becomes a survival roll. Now, I’m able to do that, but it’s the complete opposite of what my intention was going into training that evening. Some days it works wonderfully but other days it descends into an all out war. I think the Gary and Bernardo way is the way but it’s hard to see it when you’re an amateur. That experience quote is from the educationalist John Dewey. This channel is awesome btw 🙏🙏

whats you're describing is indeed the battle that we all face as we get further down the path. We push on : )

JT, if I didn't know better, I would say you low-key are endorsing some rest rounds under the ruse of creativity 😂😂

Great thoughts. I have that mindset but sometimes you get caught up in the rolls and end up going hard again...takes practice for sure.

I have the other problem. I’ve spent too long being playful than I struggle to ‘flip the switch’
