- I've been away from the homestead for well over a month, and it's great to be home ♥ Let's head down to the pantry together, and do just a little bit of cleanup, chat, and pull some food items for this weeks meals. I'll also share with you some of the ways we try to manage all the food we have preserved.

Our personal pantry maintenance tip:
We go through the pantry on every third month (Mar, Jun, Sept, Dec).
If something needs eaten or will need eaten by the next pantry check, it goes into the “working pantry”. Working pantry is in the kitchen with ingredients we use regularly, and what we know is “on deck” to use before anything else.

Wow Rachel your testimony at the end really hits home for me. I’m exactly one month out of a life changing surgery, I got a liver transplant after six months of struggling with my medical journey for acute liver failure for unknown reasons. Being that I am in the medical profession and only 42 years old, makes me wonder WHY, but I do believe God has another plan for me and I have a second chance at life❤😊

Jan. 4 of this year I suffered my own life changing event. I was accidentally shot with a .22 in the abdomen at a friends house. I had to undergo emergency surgery. I was extremely blessed and life is just now starting to settle down. I know God was right there with my in my challenge and journey. I will continue to lift you and your family up in prayers.. 2023 sure has seemed to be start off with a bang and not in a good way for many. Just glad to see you back.
Welcome home, Rachel. It’s no secret Todd missed you. I’m looking forward to preparing meals for my family while watching What’s For Dinner. It is so inspiring, just as that beautiful word at the end of this video. His promise to never leave us is such a comfort especially when one feels His presence while in a storm. Be blessed.

😊 - It is so nice to see you again, I have checked everyday for a new video and today I am so blessed to have you back in my kitchen. I have been in the kitchen teaching my daughter how to make gumbo and when I got the notification and opened it I smiled and said "Oh Rachel is back" she looked at me and smiled. She has started watching you as well. We have been praying for God to take on the burdens that you and your family have had. I was telling my son today, everything is going to work out the way it is supposed to and it will be good - In Jesus name.

I'm glad you're home! My mom stayed with my family off and on for 6 weeks when we really needed her and I'm sure your loved one(s) were blessed by your presence.
As soon as I saw your face I clicked on this. Todd did a fantastic job of holding down the fort, but it sure is nice to see you and I am sure he feels the same. It is so good to see you. Having gone through a family crisis 16 years ago, I believe with all my heart that the power of prayer and trusting that God would watch over us each step of the way was key to passing through this challenging time. At times I could feel the prayer surround us. I can see in your eyes how these past weeks have changed and strengthened you. Praise God for that . And continued prayers as your family continues to heal from these difficult days.

It's wonderful that you 'took the year off' from the gardening which allowed you some measure of flexibility. God always knows what He's doing in us and for us. Sometimes that's giving us the room and capacity to care for our loved ones.

Came across this an hour ago in my feed. Felt in my spirit to watch while prepping dinner and so glad I did! It was building and encouraging. Much of what the LORD said to me while I lay in the hospital in November. I needed to hear again. So thank you and much prayers for your recovery.

I am a picky person when it comes to storing empty jars. I absolutely must store them upside down. No dust and NO BUGS!!
God has it all under control, good to see you back! Todd held down the fort well in your absence but I'm sure he's glad to have you home! Yes our plans sometimes get in the way of His plans and we have to step back and give Him total control if we are to be where He wants us at any given time.
I use small lunch size paper bags and slip my jars in of either canned goods or if I freeze dried something and put it in a jar. I just cut the top off the bag. It’s not pretty but being a single guy I don’t need pretty I need to prevent the light from those food items. The bags are very inexpensive and are reusable. Hope y’all have a great day!

So glad to see you and you’re looking well. I am sure you are so glad to be home. Thank you for the pantry tour. I do have curtains on my jars, and my coleslaw is still pink. Thank Todd for his videos, he continued to tape them even though he had much work to do. We appreciate the both of you😊
Keep an inventory on paper or computer. Divide quantity of each item by how many months you need it to last. For instance, I have 60 pints of salsa. I need them to last a year. Divide 60 by 12 months. I need to use 5 jars of salsa per month. Kind of helps me keep track so I don't use too much of one item and not enough of another. Also keep a list of your favorite meals, so you don't forget about any. Keep a list of fast meals too.

For me a folding table near my pantry helps with rotating. When I bring things down I have a place to set them while I shuffle things around

I totally understand the plans thing. Kind of going through some things in our life right now that I’m still waiting on some answers for. He will reveal in time. Love you Rachel! So glad to hear ours prayers are working. I missed you so glad your back. I have been making and freezing cookie dough balls all ready for the oven also canning pork bbq chicken roast beef and ground beef. I have been buying the meats as they go on sale and now it was time to clean out the freezer. Also I canned pinto and nirthern beans with ham and seasoned black beans. I so enjoy the dump and heat meals I am able to make

you could always do a thing with old socks for the sleeves to protect the color on the stuff that light affects. cut the end of them off and use fabric glue to keep them from raveling too bad. We used to have little sock like things to slip on the outside of cold cups of tea so you could pick them up and the bottom kept it from leaving a ring of water at the bottom. You have grand kids, get their old socks for the smaller jars and use adult socks for the quarts and larger.
Great words at the end. I love pantry cooking, it's like being on one of those tv shows with a mystery ingredient. It challenges you to explore new meal opportunities.
Oh I missed you so much and will continue praying for God’s will. We all need to be more open to God’s plan, as humans but we all fall short living our everyday lives and rocking it, untill you get a gut punch. I know exactly what you mean about getting in the boat and riding out the storm with others! Jesus is in the boat and He has a plan. Glad you are back. Nothing is more painful than seeing your kids in pain but God is mercy and grace!

Glad you're back . Todd fixing stuff around the house. Structure needed for sagging shelves were great tips. But when it came to his cooking and enjoying every bite was fun to watch. I wondered HOW MUCH seasoning as Todd poured it on. lol.

💡Instead of blacking out your jars with a plastic sleeve, why not try a darker pantyhose to slip over the jar? that way you could still see the food inside, but light wouldn’t affect the colour. Easy to slip on and off and reuse! Sending love for whatever your family situation is❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
