not the biggest tip, (in case people are measuring) but you can use the clutch claw to kill insects (vespoid/hornetaur) and has a high chance of leaving bodies behind to carve in case you need the parts. happy hunting

Jeremiah Mercer I believe you can start using it anytime once you have Iceborne. Unless you mean the tutorial quest; that’s given by the smithy. But you don’t need to do it to use clutch claw.
Just starting on ICEBORNE with my lancer, sitting at MR5 at the moment, havent had alot of time to dig deep as work comes first, but i really haven't used it a great deal, i can see how its a great addition. I just cant get my muscle memory to adapt when using the lance, but i am finding the offensive guard loads of fun, timing the blocks to build up damage instead of just blocking, its become an act of pride now to perfectly time a charge attack lol great vid!

Monsters often knock me off before I can even wound them, on top of the fact that I’m constantly clutching to the wrong parts. Aimed at the tail? Nah, you got the wing. It got bad enough to the point where I basically just ignored it as a mechanic for the most part, but on these late game monsters its nearly essential to use. Turns awesome fights like Gold Rathian into me getting wombo combo’d cuz I just want to wound that friggin tail

Knicklichtjedi Gaming nah, you can attack and tenderize that part of it, or shoot slinger ammo right into the monster shooting it in a certain direction. You have a choice between the two.
i see speedrunner on first clash with monster they can reposition the monster but i cant do that the monster just standing still after i hit B button but after weaken it i can reposition it though. happen to me on MR.

I clearly remember being able to use a grappling hook in base MHW before Iceborn. But I just downloaded the game again and started from the beginning and I’m not able to use any type of grappling hook. Did they remove it from base MHW and only made it available in iceborn or what???
I believe so. I used to use the hook to kill vespoids and hornetaurs, but after Iceborne released the mechanic wasn't there anymore. I even tried to tell a friend who picked up the game about it, and we had to investigate it, since I have Iceborne now, and he doesn't. I was very confused, but it seems since the grapple mechanic for the clutch claw is the same input as the grappler was for the base game, they just incorporated it into the clutch claw and removed it from base. It makes sense, since its first a console game, then a PC game port (which is what I play it on) and its not as simple to remap keys on controllers/console in the back end programming for something already there, so I guess they just rolled it into the new mechanic.

So I discovered something new with the clutch claw. I was doing hunt with hammer and slide down with it charged up and spinned, when i was over I accidentally pressed middle mouse (clutch claw) which somehow turned me into a freaking 300 damaging spinning torpedo, it was so sick but can someone explain?
The clutch claw doesn't always latch on, depending on what you do after you clutch, it can release mid pull for an attack animation if the animation has an override effect to other inputs. Some people use it for mounting. With the hammer, releasing on the charge up overrides other inputs, so clutching while charging will pull you off the ground. Charging while sliding, when you leave the ground you spin, so you grappled, left the ground, it released the clutch since the charge overrides, and started the spin attack midair on the trajectory from the clutch.
i heard you can tenderize monster parts by using claw attack a couple of times and use your light weapon once, so we don't have to do it twice. correct me if I am wrong, I also never tried it
It works because to tenderize it takes, I believe, 100 damage. Heavy weapons do it in one hit, light in two, but if you smack them three times, its 20 a hit, then the 50 from the light weapon equals over 100 in one go.
Is the clutch claw separate to the ice borne expansion of u don’t understand what I mean is what I mean is that if u don’t own or have MHW ice borne will u still be able to use the clutch claw
Cervine - No purchase is needed for clutch claw - you instantly get it from the start - Had to restart from my Xbox profile to PC ( since their is no save file transfer ) A tutorial is made for the clutch claw

You can look at the minimap to determine a monsters state.
Yellow Eye - Normal
Red Eye - Enraged
Skull - Capturable
Tear - Exhaustion

You can tell if a monster is enraged if the mini map shows a red icon instead of the yellow one.

Also if you hit the flinch 3 times to move a monster and then hit the attack with any light weapon it will soften in a single weapon attack.
