      Jamil,
Poor Barry knew he had little chance to win a playoff game, let alone winning the SB. He lost his motivation and it was the right time that he left football. As for LeBron, I wouldn't want him to be playing for my city. He is a steroid athlete and he unilaterally called himself the GOAT of basketball. If we can manipulate time, LJ is to go against a prime Wilt or Russell, his scoring will be reduced at least 50%. Because he won't be able to muscle in and score easy layup and dunks. Seriously, he shouldn't be inside the alltime top 5, maybe top 10.

Ever. Not 25 years. Ever. Barry Sanders was the greatest running back to ever take a handoff. Period. His records are ridiculous. 5 yards a carry for his CAREER under THAT dog shit line. All-time record for most consecutive 1,500+ rushing yard seasons with 6 straight. 2,000+ yards in 97 as the MVP.. He was untouchable. He’s so much better than Emmitt Smith it’s not even funny. Emmitt had possibly THEE best line in NFL history while sanders had the WORST without debate. And still had 5 yards a carry his entire career. He’s the undisputed goat. If Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith swapped lines or teams, we wouldn’t ever even be having this discussion at all. He’d have damn near 20,000 yards.

The problem with the Lions was their head coach.
When Washington beat them 41-0 in the regular season and 45-10 in the NFC title game, they should have fired Fontes then.
      Barry was better than Smith.
Our WRs, Perriman, Morton and Moore were just as good as Dallas WRs
Erik Kramer was as good as the overrated Aikman was
Our O line was good enough to win

Emmitt Smith is by far the best RB ever. NFL records for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, playoff TDs and playoff yards. He could run around defender's and run over them. He was a threat out of the backfield as a receiver and he was great in pass protection. Barry could only juke defender's. Oh, Barry does have one NFL record though. Most NEGATIVE rushing yards. One of the first games Barry played, the opposing team complained that his suit had some kind of silicone slippery spray on his suit. That is a real compliment. And other teams would joke enjoying playing against the Lions so they could watch Barry run. It was fun watch him play. He would lose 5-10 yards then break one for 40-50 yards.

He was a regular season useless stat player his biggest games were against teams like the Bucs who were terrible and he played twice a year.

  • @Methadone4Life
    @Methadone4Life 6 лет назад +5

Both were great backs and blaming Emmitt for having a great offensive line is just BS. Two different runners. If you are looking for the breakaway threat then Barry was obviously better with higher top end speed, if you want a guy you can hand the ball to 30 times and no matter how much they stack the box he will get you 4 yards, win games and take you to titles...only one Emmitt Smith. I take Emmitt anytime and that is no slight to Barry, who was a beast and a fun back to watch. However, he was bottled up at times in playoff games with games like the day when Sanders set an NFL postseason record for rushing futility. He had 13 carries for minus-one yard. He had four catches that day -- for four yards. Which means he had 16 touches for a total of three yards -- 2.7 yards less than he averaged per rush in the regular season. That is the difference, if you give Emmitt the ball 20 times he will get you at least 70 yards because he is a north/south runner, he puts the head down and gets the tough yards. Now, that is not to say that Emmitt did not have moves and could not break long runs nor that Barry was not a tough player, just that they are two different style backs. You would be happy with either, but if I want a back that can CARRY a team past tough defenses and get the important smashmouth yards that win championships...no doubt I'm going with duece/duece. Barry was one helluva back and fun as hell to watch and could break ankles. Both all time greats and the debate will go on, along with many other backs that should be in the conversation. I tell ya, not many backs would I take over Emmitt.

Barry played 89 to 98. The lions made the playoffs 5 times during that time, 4 of which were wildcard 1 and outs. The boys won the Superbowl 3 times during that time. Lets not pretend the lions were a particularly good team, or had a good line. Barry is also the leader in yards lost for a running back because he had to keep running like a madman to make up for the aggressive mediocrity that was blocking for him.

Barry couldn't run from the goaline, he couldn't run on 3rd downs and he was negative in yardage during the playoffs. Amazing regular season perfomances when you play in the weakest division in football is pointless if your production drops in the playoffs. Emmitt would take a 3 yard gain instead of a 1% chance at an 80 yard TD that would most likely result in a loss of yardage unlike Barry and he's one of the top 3 near the goaline and at blocking.

Lot's of factors I know, but it was no secret for the majority of those years Emmitt had the better O line for blocking. Even still, Emmitt would have been a beast if he played with the Lions too, but Barry was a human highlight real, and the freakiest of freaks for his physical and mental agility. This host says, in a very cut-and-dry way, that Emmitt Smith was considered the league's "premiere back" at this time. I don't know exactly how he concludes this, but the matter was always 50/50 at best. And quite frankly, Emmitt Smith had one of the greatest offensive lines probably EVER while Barry Sanders, meanwhile, was stuck with the mediocre line that one just has to expect from the Lions' organization. I've always said, put Barry Sanders on one of those '90s Cowboys teams and a 2,500 yard rushing season would not have been out of the question. And to anyone too young to remember watching this guy who thinks I'm exaggerating, TRUST ME, he could run like no running back you've ever seen. It was just amazing.

Barry could run but that's all. Your love for Barry has less to do with Barry being good as it is being cowboys hater. People like you can only see what Emmitt had that was good not what he did and that was make his team great. BTW did you see his back ups do anything when he was out of the line up with that same line? If it was the line the line would make his back ups good. But with out Emmitt his team couldn't win. It was Emmitt's team. As Emmitt went so did the team. Including that line. The cowboys couldn't win without him. Emmitt made everyone beater. Thats what the great ones do. Make every one better. one knew the value of a 3 yard run for a first down, the other was always looking for home runs. Even his own coaches use to take him out at goal lines because he would lose
yards dancing 5 yards in the back field. it was worse in the playoff when defenses would zone him towards the sidelines. he would run out of bounds or get HIT trying to reverse back
he made it hard for the team to put a consistent O' Line around him, because he would zag when the plays called for him to zig (holding, tripping, illegal use of hands to the face)
which also led to his own O'Line injuries.... no one mentions that

Since Barry never played ages 31-35, this is the best comparison of his and Emmitt's careers:
    Barry (10 seasons)
    153 Games Played
    3,062 Carries
    15,269 Yards
    99 Touchdowns
    5.0 YPC
    99.8 YPG
    Emmitt (10 seasons)
    155 Games Played
    3,243 Carries
    13,963 Yards
    136 Touchdowns
    4.3 YPC
    90.1 YPG
Barry was obviously a better pure runner, but there might be some merit to him being taken out in short yardage and goal line situations considering the touchdown differential. I think we also have to consider playoffs since that's where the true greats separate themselves.
    Barry (6 games)
    4.2 YPC
    64.3 YPG
    1 Total TD
    Emmitt (17 games)
    4.5 YPC
    93.3 YPG
    21 Total TDs
Barry has the flashier highlights which is going to attract the RUclips generation. Emmitt's greatest strengths (vision and toughness) don't show up on highlights. The biggest knock against Emmitt are those last 5 years when he played from ages 31-35 on atrocious teams (those teams had a record of 25-55) which brought his career averages like yards per game way down (dropped him from #5 to #17).
