Thanks, Eric for making the best upland bird hunting videos on RUclips. I can actually see the birds! Your dogs are great as always enjoy the rest of the season.
Looks like you're shooting the Benelli 828U. I just bought one this year to replace my heavy Ruger Red Label. The light weight and adjustability of the Benelli made it the perfect option for me.
Another great video... The best on RUclips as others have said. Nice to see some bobs! Have you ever hunted Mountain Quail? It's the last (realistic) one on my upland game bird 'wish list'.
Absolutely love watching your videos. This is another fantastic one. I think I’m definitely going to have to come over from the UK and do some bird hunting in the US. and see what it’s like for myself. Those dogs are magnificent a real credit to you look forward to the next video.
This was a great video. I been seeing lots of people do truck setup videos have you ever considered doing one? New to the sport just like seeing everyone’s setups and get ideas. Thanks for the video
I actually have several videos on my truck set up as well as many other topics on my Patreon page if you are interested www.patreon.com/c/ericforrester
Not many things in life compare to walking up behind a pointing dog locked down over bobwhite quail. Texas used to be a paradise for the sport. Fire ants and conversion of habitat to favor cattle grazing has reduced the sport to a few areas of the state. So sad. Loved the video though!
I love your vids and I love your dogs / their work. I hunt Kansas with a Wirehair (Drahthaar) - I’m just curious maybe it’s a style thing but when I get up on my dog (he holds like a rock until I release him) I command him to flush the birds so I’m ready to shoot. I find I’m not as ready if I’m stomping around trying to flush them. Often he relocates a bit and re-points so I have a much better idea where they are then I re-release him to flush. Anyway maybe you could educate me on why you don’t do it that way. I’ve not had issues with him flushing when I’m not ready. He knows the game and how we hunt together. Anyway just curious not critical - you are obviously a more experienced hunter and dog trainer than me so if you have time let me know. Thanks!!
That’s a great way to hunt if your dog stays honest but that can be sketchy. I have done this on occasion with my older dogs but they know the game, so they understand it’s a special circumstance. Most of my dogs I run now are young and I also run them in field trials where steadiness is paramount, so I don’t dare mess with letting them flush. If you can pull it off though it’s like having 2 dogs in one. 👍
@@h2oburkehunt pheasants and quail in Kansas so lots of point and relocate until he locks them down or they flush. Honestly if they are trying to run away he gets them up better than I do and is smart enough to only do it close to me.
I went on my first dedicated Quail hunt recently. Prior to that the only birds I had ever hunted were Turkeys and one Dove hunt. I got out of the truck and less than 30 seconds later, had a covey of about 20 birds (which is a ton for Arkansas with declining populations) bust right in front of me. I was so shocked that 30 seconds into my quail hunting career I had a massive covey rising up in front of me that for a second I forgot to shoot. By the time I realized I needed to shoot, I rushed the shot and never got my head down on the gun all the way. No quail were harvested that day, but that was super exciting!
Some serious tree-killing. Thanks for taking us along.

What’s your thought on that 828u ?
Light, well made, a beautiful. I especially love the adjustability for fit.

This works until you run into running birds, porcupines, badgers, or skunks.

Both happy & sad. Why? Quail & Quail hunting are slipping away, before our eyes. Question is: do enough of us care? I certainly do!
I'm just curious what overunder that is?
benelli 828u
What type of dogs are those?
German Wirehaired Pointers. I’m a breeder ghostpointwirehairs.com
