Many of my covers are products of songs getting stuck in my head or a desire to play a melody or riff on guitar. However it's pretty rare that I know how the cover is going to sound before laying down tracks. For this cover, I knew exactly how I wanted it to sound. I remember being at an airport and hearing this rhythm riff in my head as I was waiting for an Uber, and I thought, 'well this could really work as a rhythm guitar for a simple and soaring melody'. Having played through the Final Fantasy X HD Remaster, this time around Servants of the Mountain hit me the hardest in the whole soundtrack and it was PERFECT for the riff. In a weird way, this was one of the easier covers to arrange since it was already pretty much done by the time I sat down to track.
Anyway, I really wish San Diego had some snow since it'd be a bit weird if Mt. Gagazet was rocky and green. This was the best I could do for April in Southern California at sundown. Hope you enjoy!

Kimahri like. Kimahri will share with spirits of the Ronso.
Issuing a quick correction. This track wasn't composed by Uematsu. Most of the FFX soundtrack wasn't. The original track was actually composed by Masashi Hamauzu, who also did most of the music for FFXIII.
Uematsu was busy with his own projects during the development of FFX and only contributed Suteki Da Ne, To Zanarkand, the regular battle theme, and some other area BGM. Most of the heavy lifting was done by Hamauzu and ESPECIALLY Junya Nakano, who's very very rarely recognized for any work on the soundtrack.
Thumbs up for the good intention. I will issue a correction on your correction. Below is the number of tracks composed by each on the FF10 OST. I'll agree that a lot of really really memorable tracks to me from this game were done by Hamauzu. (and actually, my favorite song on the entire OST was done by Junya Nakano - Phantoms)
Masashi Hamauzu : 20
Junya Nakano : 18
Nobuo Uematsu : 35
Uematsu & Hamauzu : 14
Uematsu & Nakano : 2
The whole FF10 soundtrack is fucking insane. Have you noticed the sort of Ticking that carries through all the themes that carry story moments? It's like the entire game is a countdown to the moment of culmination. Even in this theme it's sort of there and especially in this theme.
I realize I am 3 years late but also the to zanarkand melody gets passed around most of the area themes to show their literal journey "to zanarkand"
Yuna’s theme does the same. Hearing an even more emotional version of her theme while surrounded by the ruins of Zanarkand... this game may have its flaws(like keeping the renaming mechanic with voice acting), but you can’t deny the music being perfect for setting the mood in its environments.
This song got me through my grandmothers passing. I actually blacked out listening to it on the way to the plot. It'll forever be tied to her. Thank you for making music. Im truly glad to listen to you play.
He plays this with the *total reverence* that this track demands. So much love.
Final Fantasy X was the first one I ever played. Crazy how ingrained this soundtrack is in my brain. This part of the game was so well done. RIP Auron
I love supporting this guy. He doesn't just play guitar, he makes a show out of it, spectacular with the groove.
FF transfers so well into metal! Hope you do a medley in the future! :)
One of my absolute favorites from FFX. You killed it, Jules!
This one of my favorite tracks from FFX - and to see it done by your own majesty - today has become a wonderful day! Thanks Jules. =)
I didnt think anyone else cared for this song as much as i did when i played the game. This is awesome
i think this MIGHT be my favourite cover of yours to date.
This song is easily one of my favorite Final Fantasy songs. It's so haunting and beautiful and fit the environment so well.
Amazing cover! I love all of your videos but this one really stood out to me. Wouldn't mind seeing more FFX covers
Keep up the good work!
Everything about this is absolutely stunning. You, your enthusiasm, the setting, the cover.. damn fine job!
Jesus dude, you really stepped it up on this one. You and your group of friends (Caleb, Jonathan and RichaadEB) are becoming must follows. Keep it up, you sound amazing (and I'm totes jelly of your epic talent).
by far your best rhythm track. it just sounds so cool and melodic
goddamn, it somehow made something ambient sound so upbeat
I love the metalcore stuff he does at 1:56
Fantastic cover Jules! Love everything you've done from FFX over the years, and this is just superb. Thanks for revisiting this amazing OST.
Awesome cover
I was looking at your videos and i cant believe simple and clean its 6 years old now, a lot of time listening your covers, keep it going!
This is the only *great* remix I've ever been able to find of this song. You keep the feel and it's amazing. Incredibly well done.
Could you do a cover of the track 'Challenge' from Final Fantasy X? I think that would sound epic
That or the zanarkand
He's already done a cover of 'To Zanarkand'. That was excellent too
The Mighty Ryden challenge yes plz
I remember when I first unlocked this track in the music player O'oaka had. I spent the summer going to sleep with this. Excellent take on a really "stoic" track!
You never cease to amaze me Jules.
loving the mixes, keep up the amazing work.
You always seem to deliver content that exceeds typical expectations. Your content is more than just covers but rather re-imaginings.
i am simple man. i see family jules. i see final fantasy x. i click and watch and like.
One of my favorite songs from this game. Thanks for this!
This was awesome af. Great cover dude!
this is so good!! deserves more views and likes!
Wasnt expecting this one! Nice!
You did this song great justice, made something totally original and fresh out of it. Nice job!
This has to be one of your best covers!
wasn't even looking for this .... but it's perfect really! authentic, genuine... You can really tell these guys like this game and wanted to do right by this game
This is a killer re-working of my favourite theme from X.
The best final fantasy, thank you for doing this
Your videos constantly remind me that I want to do more than just classical guitar in college. I have always preferred the electric guitar and the metal, and as an avid gamer, as well, I have a much deeper appreciation for your covers. I cannot get enough of them! Thanks for being an inspiration! \m/ ROCK!
Proud of you bud, Ive been watching these video game covers for years, and play them on guitar myself, it is overall inspiring to just keep on rockin, with a will stronger than steel. The super mario castle theme is top tier too... well done sir.
Just Amazing.
Very good Job
Wow, nicely done. Takes me back to high school.
BRAVO! More please from X
Best cover out there!!!
Wow. Just wow.
The violin is a nice touch
Wow, this is so weird. I JUST got to mount gagazet yesterday, and I haven't played FFX in years.
kinda reminds me of Buckethead.
I also love the riffs at 0:45 and again at 1:56.
Love seeing jules’ more melodic side.
Really good!
I've become such a big fan of your work recently keep it up man! side note my 14 month old daughter turns her head and smiles when she heard this song start up!
One of the best from the album. Insanely epic, tense, and unnerving right at the the perfect point in that game! Thanks for giving it the credit it deserves.
P.S. Sick jacket.
Actually incredible.
JOOOOOLZ! Never played FFX but this cover is great! I loveeee the tone you got on your rhythm guitar, and the intro was especially julesOk! :D
I listened to this song often while serving in my country’s military. Mostly to take me back to better times when I’d play for hours on end, but also because there’s just a certain stillness it would create in my mind. Almost isolation like, this tune made me feel like I could punch downhill against anyone. As if I’d lived on a harshly cold mountain for thousands of years and I just knew regardless of who faced me, I’d persist and they would not. And you captured that energy in this remake....although a snowy mountain woulda been better 🤣 the actual music is amazing thank you for sharing!
This is an absolute masterpiece
Hey FamilyJules, I just wanted to let you know that I have admired your videogame covers for a long time, and I suppose i should have subscribed much earlier than I did. Keep up the good work sir. As a fellow metal guitarist who is still aiming to become a great improvisitory metal soloist and work on my tapping and arpeggio techniques, I end up finding the most creative methods of these approaches and one of the inspiring guitarists is you, man. Thank you so much your effort! XD
Amazing😍
Is this real life? Wow, this song brings me back. I listened to it while I was getting my wisdom teeth out. Jeez, that was 15 years ago. Amazing job. Your recording and mixing and video production all seem to get better every single song you put out! It's actually scary how good you're getting at this.
OH MY GOSH! I was listening to the original Servants of the Mountain and I thought to myself "It' would be awesome if FamilyJules covered this" Looked at your channel and this video was posted two days ago.
More FFX please! This was amazing!
Very cool.
This is underappreciated.
The damn description box man... "Khimari try too" my heart.. My soul.. Khimari strong Ronso. No horn but still proud. Stand tall proud Ronso. Stand tall
This one sounded very Killswitch Engage to me! Good stuff, Jules!
Awesome 🤘😎🤘
Yo dude those riffs are pretty incredible. I think I'm hearing a lot of Angel Vivaldi influences maybe? This is probably a new favourite of you! Seriously amazing stuff, Jules :)
Taking me back to one of my favorite moments in Final Fantasy X, dude. Visiting the Ronso homeland was awesome. Keep up the great work! \m/^-^\m/
Hey, I like this new style, considerably different from your old videos (I just realised I've been watching you since Replay: A tribute to video games, and now I feel old :( )
Keep up the great work pal.
Holy hell this is just... Whoa.
This is sick
Pretty fucking metal. You've done justice to the mountain melody!
the comment in the description... khimari try too.. damn right you do big guy. damn right you so. Definitely in my top 3 final fantasy characters. great cover dude this song is majestic in its original and now it's a rock masterpiece as well with your skill. great fucking job you've got another subscriber :)
Hell yes, one of my favorite games!
DAT TRANSITION AT 0:44 THO
Geez, you have such incredible talent and drive. Also, I don't know if people say this a lot, but I love your bass lines.
Subbed. You did a rock ballad to my favorite FF piece. So subbed.
Actually sounds pretty great! Reminds me of metal covers of DKC's Aquatic Ambience
Dope coat!
a cover worthy of the ronso!
That's a great cover :)
Noctis playing the guitar, nice!
That was amazing. I now also need an atmospheric black metal version of this song.
Someone needs to do that.
Like Ulver or Batushka style
This and Wandering Flame were my favorite tracks of FFX
oh my goood this is amazing! Wish I could play FFX again rn ;w; great job on this one!
Rain Chicken I still have my PS2 just to play FFX again when I want to
buena música
Love the pairing of a riff into the cover rather than just hearing the OST and going in.
Another FFX Song. Awesome. *thumbs up* :D
Straight up sounds like a death song love this
This games soundtrack is my jam!
Amazing.
Damn this is good.
Sick outfit bro
Kimahri smile
It's been more than 20 years now. The Final Fantasy 10 OST original is a lot like the Star Trek 2; the Wrath of Khan movie score. Well before its time, and seemingly impossible to outdo, especially within the genre.
Jules brings this one home in a true "hold my beer" fashion!!!
The riffage in this was tighttt.
Also, I know what you mean with covers where the arrangement is already in your head before laying down anything. Usually the covers that I end up being the most proud of :)
Great job, like always Jules ^^
i have just one probleme with this track : Seymour!
If you are thinking about doing another FFX cover, I nominate Track 14 from Disc 3, "Attack". It's that epic airship battle theme. (Not to be confused with the standard battle theme).
I don't believe there is a single metal cover of this song on the internet, and it's damn shame.
Absolutely love it
That's a really nice coat, by the way. Where did you get it? I'm looking to buy a new one.
Also great cover. I absolutely love X.
It's actually Rich's don't tell him
FamilyJules fokin savage
Weird, I thought you got it at JCPenney's.
Nice to see these amazing songs get some love, we have similar taste in music my friend x)
At 01:17 i got the craziest goosebumps ever - in a good way!
Fuuuuuuuuck
Trop bonnnnnnnnn!
Merci mec
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD YES
