I know people that bought homes here and paid them off in the 70's and their children inherited them. The Prop 13 assessment they pay their property taxes on is more then what the property is worth now. No one in their right mind will buy a home out there now. Barstow is in a better place financially speaking. What does this tell you?
If you grow up there like I did, I think you'll agree that it is a very sick depressed area. Although we had parks and recreation, we didn't have enough positive engaged male role models to effect true change. And that's what I think is needed in these places. Short of this, the only you thing you can do is move to a more positive community.
Jeremy Snowden That's true it is hard out here, theres no sugar coating any of it, people like to show the nice NORTH end and dance around the rest of the city that is rough
yeah man gangs everywhere you are destroyed buildings no positive influences an I barely graduated mate this struggle is worse than Compton or anything bro.
even the so called nice area's of San Bernardino is horrible.even highland and east highlands is horrible.the downtown is in shambles, with a almost completely vacant carousal mall, with literally only about 3 shops still left open in that mall.grew up there most of my life, finally moved to Arizona 3 years ago.the only thing I missed from San Bernardino was the best pizza place to me which was called maxwell street pizza.they made the best tasting pizza I ever had.
I drove up mt Vernon earlier to play a show at the elks lodge . Downtown def does not look like a place to hang out at night. It's disheartening to say the least and I hope other cities in CA don't wind up like this .
@@ten4k964 yea my family came to Santa Ana in the 60s and I remember the late 90s and early 2000s when I was a little kid and there were shootings all the time dirt roads and bars on windows graffiti every where etc now my old neighborhood is considered middle class
Overall I still like San Berdo for the simple fact that it is affordable and pansy suburbanites aren't there cause they are too afraid of it. Probably the last cheap big city in So Cal. Good affordable restaurants, honest car mechanics and body shops, the view of the arrowhead sign, the very first Mc Donald's, Route 66, and an old train station. The politicians have been messing up the city for years, but still have hope that the younger generation will buy up some of the old homes and fix them up to live in and start families. Some of the older homes that have been kept up are very nice.
Matt ganjaa Richard & Maurice McDonald founded the first Mc Donnald's (In San Berdo on route 66). Ray Kroc came in later. The Chicago restaurant is the fist under the corporation.
i agree, yes there is allot of crime but usually as long as youre a stand up guy most of the gangs are small time or keep under the radar, the only thing you really need to worry about are the tweakers and some teenagers. but when you really explore the old parts of san bernardino that arent very ghetto its nice. oh and its hot as hell
What happened to San Bernardino is the same thing that happened to many places. All the good jobs left or closed down. The biggest employers were Santa Fe Railroad, Kaiser Steel, and Norton Airforce Base. They all left or closed within a few years of eachother. It was devastating to the local economy and it has yet to recover.
Actually, the beginning of woes in this city stretch long before Norton. What happened to San Bernardino happened all over the U.S, it "deindustralized". Santa Fe Rail road moved all its repair shops to Kansas in the early 70's 80's and Kaiser Steel shut down in the 70's along with Norton AFB in 94. The major employers that employed thousands of people were now gone. The same thing that happened in Detroit, the jobs left and so did the tax base.
Ahhh, good ol San Bernarghetto. If you live in between the 15, 210, and 10, you are in the ghetto. Whole city is in shambles, there are countless empty stores and shopping centers now, and the biggest development in San B? Warehouses, huge, massive warehouses that employ very few. The city government is disgustingly corrupt, and bankrupt. The schools are horrible, the murder rate is sky high. How do I know all this? I live there, sadly. I live on the "good side" which is considered to be on the north side of the 210, up by the mountains, but yet, there have been several murders within a few miles. The city has a contract with the state that allows for inmates being paroled to come directly to the city. There are over 85,000 people on probation and parole in San Bernardino County. Few years ago, a lady was buying doughnuts on the Friday after Thanksgiving at 11 am, she got in her car and was promptly shot in the head several times by some thug. So come on to San B. for a vacation, oh the fun!
Back in the 90's people mainly in South Central LA, Watts, Compton and nearby cities who can no longer keep up with the standard of living in urban setting had to go elsewhere and SB is one of the preferred cities people had to settled in.
@SuperStrive60 That's good to know. SB was always a wide open town, mainly due to military and the RR. My dad's family use to tell me stories about the town going all the way back to the 30's. But it was also a blue collar, middle class city as well. Farmers, RR workers, construction all had a place and the city still reflects that heritage, the homes even in bad areas were good ones, well made. The town became a dumping ground for a lot of bad characters over the years. Hope that changes.
Despite being a grown man living in Texas now, I got a sick attachment to the place I was born and raised. Strange how one will be drawn back home in some way, no matter how run down that home is.
@DIJV79 I Remember that.. That used to be fun going to spirit games. Now its the I.E stampede or something.. But that's a real ghetto part of town where the old spirit stadium was.
I used to live in this place, ugh. Thank god I moved to a much safer, calmer, and natural place called Devore Heights (Very Underrated place). BUT I did have good memories here.
I lived there from 1978-86 (on Valencia Ave, nice home). That shit never touched my family, but the "undesirables" were still undesirable back then...same parts of town that are still a festering sore today.
All of San Berdo has been badly affected from the time of Norton AFB's closure. That event took the heart out of the city. But it's primarily a railroad town. My dad's cousin worked at the Union Pacific yards, if memory serves, back when I was a kid in the 70's. With the economic depression, rail traffic is way down and the RE collapse has compounded the economic decay of San Berdo. Too damn bad, I don't know what'll become of the place...
SB averages around 40 homicides a year; most go un-solved, no arrests. Media never covers it, but when it's a "terrorist" then it gets nationwide; even global media attention??. I've heard from old people the city use to much better and had a great economy.
When Norton AFB, Kaiser Steel and railroads traffic was strong, SB was a very decent place to live. It always had the reputation of being a wide open place, mainly because of the transient nature of much of the population. Lot of whorehouses and underground gambling joints back in the 60s. Now it's all an open drug den and whorehouse....

Your tax dollars at work. Government got so big under Democrats that they took all the tax dollars and left San Bernardino a 3rd world city. Those that benefited the most were city and county personal. Retirement benefits tripled under democrats making retirement pay and health insurance more than their normal work pay.

music sounds like war from the start im og lowrider ! but earth wind and fire it is ! great music groups both war and earth wind and fire ! lowrider jams for sure !
@DennyDFW OH okay it was Santa Fe that had its main terminal, near Waterman, or was it Mt. Vernon. I was just a child when my dad took me to see his cousin and his kids, and I remember a huge smokestack, where the train house was located. I thought it was Union Pacific but it was, as you said, Santa Fe. My memories are of the monstrous engines and the smell of oil and solvents. I really like the place, but I haven't been there since the late 90's, so its probably gotten worse.
The really Mexican people who work and live in peace are in many ways different from the ones who traffic with drugs or things like that, please don't judge all of us for being Mexicans, when you get to know us you'll see the difference. A peace-loving and friendly Mexican.
OC blight is NOTHING like san bernardino. san bernardino is the second poorest city in the nation for cities 200,000 and up, second to detroit. anaheim is super nice, santa ana is the worst area of OC but even it's poorest neighborhoods don't compare with san bernardino's poorest.
Wow, the educational standards must be quite low out there in San Bernardino. I was a C average student in the early 90's, while attending Bakersfield High School, but at least I can say that my general spelling and written grammar is decent. No offense, but attending school out in San Bernardino must be a slacker's heaven.
Negative influences can be found in every city. I could post six minutes of great successful businesses and residents who take pride in their homes. I could edit a video to make San Bernardino look like an oasis. An individuals attitude effects their individual situation more than their geographic situation.
I can't argue with much that has been said here about San Bernardino, and I get where this video is coming from - educating people about the blight and abject poverty that plagues this city. However (there's always a "however") San Bernardino has beautiful things too and I hope people don't see this and rule out the fact that there are good people, homes and businesses in this city despite all of the bad. I really hope strides can be made to dig this place out of the hole that it has sunk into.
Grew up there I was mugged walking to Riley Elementary when I was 7 years old. I was Also mugged and they tried to stab me walking home from SBHS as a teenager. ALot of childhood friends are either dead or in jail. Very few are OK.... Growing up here made me appreciate the little things as an adult. Seeing this video saddens me because there I know that there are normal kids that will have to grow up here and be forced to make bad decisions.
I lived in San Bernardino for a while and could not wait to get out of it. It seriously seems like Detroit west as far as being run down goes I hope someday that town gets back on it's feet. This is deplorable
@ripperduck That's the main source of Berdo's demise. My dad worked at Santa Fe railroad and my mom worked at Norton AFB. We left in 1990 and life just got better since.
@Danfer38 Yeah but if you're thinking of making the move, try to get as close to Cal-State as you can, it's by far the best area in town. The North end is mostly alright, but there is pockets which you might want to avoid - areas around 48th street, Sierra Way etc. It doesn't look really look shout out like the rest of the city but things do and can happen there, violence, robberies, shootings etc. Just use common sense you'll be fine.
wow dude. I have lived in san bernarghetto for about a good 4 years now and this is exactly the way it looks. When people think california they think Los angeles and beaches. They don't really see this side to often. Good job yo =]
Lived here 39 years. Most people don't realize this city didn't fall apart until Norton AFB shut down followed by Santa Fe Railroad which both took away thousands of jobs and the people with it. Housing income lowered along with property value and along came people that trashed this city
Parts of SB have a nice old 1920s-40s feel to it. It has a lot history, the First Mc Donnalds is from San Bernardino and Juan Pollo owns a little MC Donnalds museum where the first on was at. I hope some of the classic old buldings and streets get renovated. Economically it is depressed, very few good jobs. I hope CSUSB gets better and hope the County spends money to fix this town up - not enough after school programs for kids.
We can get involved in the city's council, and spread awareness to make a change. I am involved in several programs for education and students, and there is still hope and spirit, somewhere in California.
ahahaaa maaan you got a great video here this sure is the highlights of san bernardino the only reason why i looked is cuz i was telling someone else about and you sure backed up my words!
"ACTUALLY,I put my video up, not you." I ACCEPTED THE RESPONSE VIDEO, NOT YOU. I was kind enough to accept it, even though I didn't have to. "You have a very intense angry streak that takes offense to positivity.I don't understand why I have made u so bitterly mad." congratulations, you've just described yourself perfectly here. "When did I say I was offended?" Really? The first post you made reeked of taking offense.
@LosAngelesHomegrown Lol, i used to work at the northgate there on atlantic and compton. i remember every other day someones car would get broken into in the parking lot. I would be pushing carts ooutside and just see piles of glass shards littered acros the floor.
@SuperStrive60 : Actually, considering the size of San Bernardino and these pictures, I get the impression that San Bernardino is the Kern County equivalent to being one giant Wasco or Lamont, and that is just beyond horrible!
dude i live on 8th and aarowhead...ive been shot at once and jumped 3 times but thats about it...in my WHOLE life !!! trust me i live in the shit of SB like soccombe lake 5th mt vernon WSV i kno dude...lol where u live ?

I grew up in SB (the Highland portion) and sorry but I agree with the poster, this vid was cherry picked for the worst areas. You left out the great areas in the city limits. But not to take you to task severely as you mentioned "blight and poverty in San Bernardino" as opposed to San Bernardino is in poverty (although it is suffering from the economic decline). How about a positive vid for SB if you haven't done one? Thanks for sharing!
@skimob lmmfao.....i feel you on that....the waterman swap meet where you can get movies, get my nails done, get my son a hair cute....lol.....i love my city!
lol...rialto isn't anywhere near being as bad as san bernardino. rialto doesnt have areas like the sierra way and baseline...delman heights, zions, projects, lil africa and on and on. rialto is nice compared to san bernardino
it didn't get "super ghetto", it's been like this for decades now. in fact, it looked worse before, since now they're tearing down houses and building new parks in place of them.
I made a slideshow in rebuttal to this one, it's under "It's a Beautiful Day in San Bernardino" and it's here on youtube. This is NOT a church video, and it doesn't have any other motive but to show that there are good things in this city too. Made by a lifelong resident. It has a surprise ending too! ;-)

Estás bien guapa linda
This looks like a cozy little area. I'd like inquire about purchasing some real estate. 42 dollars should be enough to buy the whole town.
that's just one side of the town
Whole city is shit
Yeah-- the WHOLE side!
actually i love san bernardino, this video makes it out to be like its some horrible
scary story when its actually not. i live here and its not like some one dies or something horrible
happens everyday. there are some good places that are beautiful in san bernardino.
the video just shows all of negative parts of it
music sounds like war from the start im og lowrider ! but earth wind and fire it is ! great music groups both war and earth wind and fire ! lowrider jams for sure !
Definitely the San Bernardino I remember. Can't say I miss it lol
We're you at now?
Its funny, the O.C cities that battle blight is Stanton, La Habra, Anaheim and Santa Ana, so its not just San Bernardino.
OC blight is NOTHING like san bernardino. san bernardino is the second poorest city in the nation for cities 200,000 and up, second to detroit. anaheim is super nice, santa ana is the worst area of OC but even it's poorest neighborhoods don't compare with san bernardino's poorest.
@@ElJuzgadono mames tan feo esta?
i love SB its home away from home💯
Wow, the educational standards must be quite low out there in San Bernardino. I was a C average student in the early 90's, while attending Bakersfield High School, but at least I can say that my general spelling and written grammar is decent. No offense, but attending school out in San Bernardino must be a slacker's heaven.
Negative influences can be found in every city. I could post six minutes of great successful businesses and residents who take pride in their homes. I could edit a video to make San Bernardino look like an oasis. An individuals attitude effects their individual situation more than their geographic situation.
San Bernardino is a shithole
I used to stay on fairfax and baseline. This video is a trip.
It's a good place to ' used to live in ' . RIP San berdoo I knew thee well.
Don't go walking down secombe lake park at night thats what I meant to say
Who else lived by hillside elementary school 🖐
@jokercompany what house?? ALL of these pictures were taken within San Bernardino city limits. All of them.
Nice.. I wish I lived in Cali... it seems so nice there! There is so much to do... well at least more than here in Dallas :(
I can't argue with much that has been said here about San Bernardino, and I get where this video is coming from - educating people about the blight and abject poverty that plagues this city. However (there's always a "however") San Bernardino has beautiful things too and I hope people don't see this and rule out the fact that there are good people, homes and businesses in this city despite all of the bad. I really hope strides can be made to dig this place out of the hole that it has sunk into.
Hey j/w what's the name of this song? Its vibin'
It seriously seems like Detroit west as far as being run down goes
I hope someday that town gets back on it's feet. This is deplorable
@ripperduck That's the main source of Berdo's demise. My dad worked at Santa Fe railroad and my mom worked at Norton AFB. We left in 1990 and life just got better since.
How much would it suck if you saw your house in this video?
Cool video and all, but whats the name of the song
kool man whats life like in the SB for yungsters?
and are their any bloods or crips?
HAHAHAHA, I pass by some of these places, lol.
(Cont'd) I did like, however, the music, the syncopation of which reminded me of the old Robot days of dancing.
Hi brother i'm Danfer 38. Yes l was Buy My Home in Riverside over 91 fyw un 2011 small Home but pretty quite....thanks 9 years after.
wow, 4:09 and 5:07 are places I hung out growing up in San B.
Song name?
Earth Wind & Fire - Evil (album version)
Housing income lowered along with property value and along came people that trashed this city
and Kaiser Steel.
My dude I came to this video to be in awe at the bad parts then i saw my own fucking house.
I'm bamboozled
Parts of SB have a nice old 1920s-40s feel to it. It has a lot history, the First Mc Donnalds is from San Bernardino and Juan Pollo owns a little MC Donnalds museum where the first on was at. I hope some of the classic old buldings and streets get renovated. Economically it is depressed, very few good jobs. I hope CSUSB gets better and hope the County spends money to fix this town up - not enough after school programs for kids.
I’m pretty sure this is Mexico.
where does baaseline start and end i know it goes a long way
What should we do about are city? Any ideas? Does anyone from San Bernardino have any ideas good ones? And would it matter if we did?
Everyone wants to leave San Bernardino CA. I'm from there, but there is always a chance
We can get involved in the city's council, and spread awareness to make a change. I am involved in several programs for education and students, and there is still hope and spirit, somewhere in California.
I love San Bernardino. My mom just moved from there and I will miss my visits there.
why? Its home Of destruction.
Santa Fe Market!!!
Davidson St.
Brought back some memories
ahahaaa maaan you got a great video here this sure is the highlights of san bernardino the only reason why i looked is cuz i was telling someone else about and you sure backed up my words!
"ACTUALLY,I put my video up, not you."
I ACCEPTED THE RESPONSE VIDEO, NOT YOU. I was kind enough to accept it, even though I didn't have to.
"You have a very intense angry streak that takes offense to positivity.I don't understand why I have made u so bitterly mad."
congratulations, you've just described yourself perfectly here.
"When did I say I was offended?"
Really? The first post you made reeked of taking offense.
I miss san bernardino... lived there for 24 years of my life... shitty place to grow up... but also the best place to grow up
@LosAngelesHomegrown
Lol, i used to work at the northgate there on atlantic and compton. i remember every other day someones car would get broken into in the parking lot. I would be pushing carts ooutside and just see piles of glass shards littered acros the floor.
iT MAY LOOK BAD BUT ITS HOME!
4:48,, I used to stay up the street.. props to this video alot of familiar places
I've been watching you channel lately. I was born in sb ,lived there for 19 years.
geet my head from under the rock ? i was just in the US army have my diploma and was wounded and was medical discharged for my country so how the fuck you figure ? 1st infantry division 11B !!! who else in SB can say that...wooow guy dont judge people...go to afghanistan and iraq it makes SB look like paradise...
I live in San Bernardino, and while some people are ass holes, most of the people that live here are nice people that give a damn about other people.
Love to San Bernadino from Hemet much respect I.E 951 Represent
Damn san b got super ghetto since i moved to victorville, fuck it still reppin the big I.E
it didn't get "super ghetto", it's been like this for decades now. in fact, it looked worse before, since now they're tearing down houses and building new parks in place of them.
ElJuzgado no it looks worse now. Idk where u got that from but san bernardino used to be a decent place
Victorville isn’t much better lmao
I made a slideshow in rebuttal to this one, it's under "It's a Beautiful Day in San Bernardino" and it's here on youtube.
This is NOT a church video, and it doesn't have any other motive but to show that there are good things in this city too. Made by a lifelong resident. It has a surprise ending too! ;-)
