I don’t sell on eBay, I always donated stuff to places like the Hudson Valley Restore, Red Hook Community Center, and other venues like Goodwill, etc., not eBay.
@@Musicradio77Network What are you doing there? The items you donate are getting to the manager and employees of goodwill-etc. The stuff they don't want ends up on the shelf at expensive prices.
This is the precise reason I quit selling on ebay. Ever since the CEO announced years ago that eBay would be going to align itself with "product based" selling instead of "flea market" based selling, this is whats happened. Trying to align themselves with Amazon, as there is no such thing as as-is no warranty. EVERYTHING has a warranty on that site whether you want to or not.
And why would anyone want to buy anything "as is with no warranty". Sounds like people just passing off junk that shouldn't be sold online in the first place. There's always a place for that kind of stuff, it's called a flea market.
I just hate how eBay removed the ability for a seller to leave negative feedback for a buyer. I have absolutely no idea why that was put into effect given the amount of crooks out there looking to scam the sellers.
Archie Bunker it’s ridiculous! All buyers have 100% positive feedback. There’s no way to decline a sale based on their track records. It’s like in those Social Justice Warrior schools where everyone gets a ribbon.
Calling Ebay helps, a lot. Don't go through only the online system. I've had Ebay immediately side with me as the seller for buyer claims against me for as-is items. Ebay can see all messages between you and the buyer so keep all communication civil. They will look at the messages when you call them. They have the power to immediately close cases in the seller's favor if you call and ask them to look at the case, if you are in the right.
Now that sounds fair, and you are right about foul language, keep it business and not personal. When you use gutter language no one will take you seriously. Well said.
I get what you're saying and I mostly agree. But if you tell them to return it (and you pay for shipping cost) you may be out some money but they won't have anything that they can resell, and you do. And you can put a reserve on the relisting that ensures that you get your money out of it. And if they destroy it before they send it back or they send it back in a trash bag or whatever and it gets destroyed in shipping, you have a case for not giving them their money back, don't you?
@@zulumax1 I know that happens, but first of all, I would say that's unlikely to happen in this case, and second of all, doesn't eBay give sellers any recourse for that at all? Serious question.
@@JacGoudsmit Thank you, and eBay's policy concerning as is no warranty is no longer valid. The answers are there in comments left from others below concerning this. The CEO of eBay decided to go away from a flea market based selling and will honor any returns. I agree with him now that I know this, and if we disagree then we can take our business elsewhere.
I'm so sorry man!I've gotten a record player in the past from you that was wonderful and very well packed!God Bless You!I love your work and what you may offer!
You're right. I've never bought from you but I'm thinking about it- if I have enough money to do it, I will. But, you seem like a good & fair guy, and you do good work, so I feel bad for you getting the treatment you do. Hope you find a better way if there is one. Looking forward to your next videos!
I used to use ebay a lot when you did not have to take pay pal. I used to ask for postal money orders which you can cash right in the post office. When they started demanding that the only payment method be paypal, it really hit me. I haven't used it in quite a while, but I plan on using it in the next few months.
I also use rewards app like Perk, Fetch, Shopkick, Swagbucks, etc. where I can reward gift cards including eBay. I also use iMoney to make money by downloading useless apps and stay for 3 minutes until I reward more money to cash out on PayPal.
It’s a shame that as good as you are to people this has to happen to you. I hate it for you. I love your videos my friend. I’m loosing what vision I’ve had now at the age of 50. Your videos help me get through life’s tough curves. Thank you again. I enjoy your rants they make me smile. Travis in KY
This is precisely why I stopped selling things on EBAY,I just EBAY to buy things I need... the last Time , I got bid on a pair of Speakers, the Bidder never paid , and wouldn't return my Emails, and I kept the Speakers and eventually gave them to someone in need.
Thank you for the information my friend. I really like to watch your videos. The repair ones and the rant and rave ones too. Common sense is not a tool in everybody's shed. Some of these people out there today are a few fries 🍟 short of a Happy Meal. Keep up the great work!
Mr. Radiotvphononut. I have the UTMOST RESPECT FOR YOU! I've learned alot from you and your channel. You're a wonderful teacher. ANYBODY WHO SCREWS YOU OVER WILL REAP THE REWARDS OF BAD KARMA!!!! I recently bought a Voice of Music stereo receiver from 1971 in very good condition. I paid $90 for it. I WOULD NEVER EXPECT a money back guarantee on this almost 50 year old piece. I wasn't expecting it to work flawlessly, but, it does! Original capacitors and all. If it didn't work, I'd get it restored. I wish you were located closer to Chicago. I think I would only trust you or Shango066 to work on it. You both provide an EXTREMELY VALUABLE SERVICE TO US COLLECTORS. You are insurmountably appreciated by us who understand. Hearing stories of people screwing you over makes my blood boil. Ignorant shit heads need to buy a crappy Crosley!
I used to sell refurbed Videodisc and Laserdisc players on Ebay, but not for the last 10 years. Got burned like you from an ignorant buyer who bought an RCA CED player that I put into perfect condition, then did not know how to use it once they got it, and just could not follow any instructions I gave no matter what. This was a lady who just had a bug about having a vintage and rare electronics device, even though her knowledge about such was ZERO. So I had her just return it, and it came back all busted up due to rotten packing. Ebay wouldn't believe me, and just claimed it was broken on arrival per her claim. So like you, I say screw Ebay. I never sold another player on there ever again. I just post them on Craigslist at a much cheaper price and watch them go out the door, since I don't have to pack them and pay any extra shipping. Would you like a CED player? I'll give you a working one at no charge with a few free discs too. They are great for CRT TVs. Don't know if you've ever had one. They are pretty neat.
I feel so sorry for all the genuine people who take time, care and freely give their considerable knowledge and expertise to then get royally shafted up the arse. The injustice is so obvious to see in RTVPN's video and all the comments - There must be thousands of us shafted enough to never forget it. I found a CED player, maybe a Toshiba if I remember correctly? Along with ten or twenty discs hidden in the old stock of a HiFi shop I worked at. We played with it and it was great fun - though I don't think I was too impressed with resolution and fidelity...I was though astounded when I saw the stylus...
Yes, Martin, you are correct. I never forgot the lady who wrecked a great vintage electronics item I restored to perfection, and which is why I left Ebay. I'm fortunate enough to live near a big city where there are collectors around who use other venues. RTVPN doesn't so he gets to use either ebay, or not much else.
@@themoviemaniac8416 You are correct. Where I live, the economy is not that great (and getting worse) and the only things people seem to spend money on is booze and the latest smart phone. If I find someone interested in an old radio or record player, they generally expect to get it for $10.
@radiotvphononut Yeah, I figured out approximately where you live by the radio stations you get when showing us a radio restoration on RUclips. I used to be a radio broadcast engineer. Anyway, I'd be glad to send you a working RCA CED videodisc player at my cost and packed properly along with a good selection of movie discs. I have so many of these players, I won't miss one. I assume you know what they are, since they are basically the highest format of vinyl disc grooved recording using an actual physical stylus for playback. You can send me an email to ee.munyon @ gmail.com
I think most of us eBay sellers have faced this a time or two. I sold a Franklin Mint World Trade Center replica and built padding and Styrofoam around the entire thing. When he got it, the thing looked like it had been run over by a truck. I suspect he had one that got damaged and claimed it was the one I sold to him. Thank goodness i had it insured.
Walmart mindset is right! They see no value in quality and their dollar is worth more to them than their life or time. I don't return anything for refunds either. Walmart fixed it where people don't have to be responsible for their decisions or anything else. All the corporate retailers are doing it but if just one went back charging restocking fees they would all follow suit and get back to making profit doing business with people who mean business.
I agree with you Sir 100%. The reasons you state, is why I do not sell on EBay anymore if I have to ship the item. If it's a local pickup only, in that case I will sell on EBay and accept cash only as payment. That way, if they don't like the item when they see it in person, they can leave it, and I will cancel the transaction.
I know what you are saying I once sold something and got a guy that said it arrived with a broken tonearm and the turntable was bent well I said I can prove that I sold you the same thing I took a video of it and sent it to his e-mail and I had a promenant marking where it can be seen so it can identify that it was the same unit and he says that I lied and so I filed with ebay and he was a bad buyer and would buy and return many times and so he was not allowed to buy anymore he was banned but I really am sorry you have had so much trouble no one should have to deal with such nonsense lots of these buyers are just grown babies that need to learn right from wrong and be honest wishing you and mom all the best for a great mothers day be well
This is why when i sell stuff like electronics i do pc's i make sure the computer runs good and actually use it prior to selling, i will show who ever wants the machine how it runs and what's in it before they get it, i know in past i got ripped off from people who would wanna try the computers or what not and see if they like it before paying, but no more as i have too had people just never pay or pay half what i originally wanted, they would claim that times are tough and have no money, so now if some one wants some thing they gotta pay first, i'll set it up show them how to run it etc. if they like it they can buy it, if not then no deal.i have never sold on E bay except some old radios years ago. but it happens some people are honest some not, that's the problem todays world, hopefully you can find a new way to sell the stuff you have, as some of that is some good stuff and well made stuff. what i wish i could have found is another radio tv combo type thing like we had decades ago as kids. now those were nice and real furniture and sounds better than any thing today would, but i will prolly never find or see one here. as in Ny here they would be rare to find if at all.
Thanks Bryan. I added brend_trist to my blocked buyer list on e-Prey. I never hear you say a cuss word in your videos. I love it when you cut loose, like this one. Cutting loose on yo-yo's is what I do best. Thanks.
I normally don't use profanity in my videos; but, as you can imagine, I was very irate over what happened and it burns me up that I have a spotless record and Ebay sides with some witch with zero feedback. To top it off, Ebay sent me a message, thanking me for refunding her. Frankly, that was a slap in the face and it wasn't like I had any choice in the matter.
Ebay was built on small time sellers. It was a great site way back when. Now they just cater to bullshit and have done just that for a decade now. Just out of curiosity, what was the buyers state in this case?
Sorry to hear a buyer burned you like that! I’ve been a buyer only on eBay for many years. I will probably never be an eBay seller after watching your video and reading the high number of comments about how poorly eBay treats it’s sellers. I just filed my first claim under buyer protection with eBay because a lot of 11 sixteen mm films I’d purchased were so poorly packed, taped together with scotch tape, not in a box, that they got separated in shipping. I only got 2 out of 11. I emailed the seller, who only wanted to argue that they were shipped and that they “used a whole roll of scotch tape” so it must be my fault. Anyway, eBay refunded me AND told me that they were letting the seller keep the sales proceeds. Maybe it all depends on who happens to handle the case at eBay. I don’t know. Maybe you could call them and ask that they review the handling of it in regards to you being a seller with an impeccable reputation. Anyway, thanks for the great videos on RUclips!
As a buyer, I've had some terrible experiences on eBay with crooked sellers, so I'm generally thankful for buyer protection... but doesn't the buyer have to prove their allegation before eBay will find in their favor? I once received a turntable that was completely different than the one in the listing AND it was smashed to bits. The packaging was perfect; it was clearly that the seller simply dumped the already-smashed turntable into the box. Even though the seller allowed returns, they only wanted to offer me a very small partial refund. I had to fight like hell to get my money back, sending lots of photos to eBay as documentation of my allegation, and it took several days for eBay to make a decision.
You can set your buyer preferences so zero feedback bidders can't bid. But that ain't going to help if a buyer with feedback wants to screw you over. I've had the same thing happen to me. Luckily the buyer never pursued it and the case expired. The scam you mention here is a BIG risk you take selling on eBay and it sucks!
Setting the feedback is waaaaay too low. You can only set it at 3 maximum. In other words, the least feedback you can stop a buyer from bidding is only 3, it should be at least 10.
I was introduced to Ebay by a coworker way back in 1999. Ebay was great then but imagine selling/buying without pictures!! 3 years ago, they had developed semi auto listing which included some garbage about the seller having no shipping charge. I specifically stated the shipping charge...to prevent what happened to me. The winning buyer still argued he was not paying for shipping, so I challenged the purchase and ultimately withdrew the item citing a cause that it was broken. It had been broken and I was selling it as that, but figured the buyer would later challenge that also once he got the item. Ebay still charged me the fees!! So now, in the last 3 years I have been on hiatus for the reasons you cite!!!! The fees have become horrible for the small guy anyway.
I never sold anything on eBay because I don't feel like preparing an item and shipping. I do appreciate sellers most of the time. I bought almost 100 items, only had a problem a few times. They either made it right, or I got a refund from PayPal. I wouldn't make a claim unless the item was damaged or not as described. And that's rare.
I used to sell tons of electronics before the buyer protection was around. I did refund a couple for similar reasons, not working or damaged in shipping. I have sold a few things since and so far so good but its not the same as it was.
I wouldn’t bother with eBay anymore, if you want to sell a record player, let us all know here. I’m sure one of your subscribers would buy it, I’ve bought from you before, never had any issues, you do excellent work and I use that player a few times a week
You can list terms and conditions in your eBay listing, but if you use the words "if you do not agree to these terms and conditions please do not bid" their artificial intelligence engine will not allow you to do it saying it is rude. Rude my butt. It's not rude this is the terms and conditions if you don't agree to them bid on another auction. I've been lucky over the years selling on eBay with only one or two idiots. You are correct though it will only take one to put you completely off listing anything there. Good luck to you. Really enjoy the videos. Also if you decide to list on eBay again oh, I would strongly recommend getting some tamper-proof labels made. You can get them serialized with your do not tamper message embossed upon them.also if you decide to list on eBay again, I would strongly recommend getting some pamper proof labels made. You can get them with your message embossed on the label. Unfortunately there are so many people that will take an item that has optional circuits filters etc internally, remove them smash the device with a hammer and claimed that it was not pack sufficiently and request a refund. You get a Total wreck back minus the expensive options.
The stuff I buy on ebay has been mostly 'as is, for parts' so I really really hope this won't effect that sort of market as much. I've never sold on ebay, but I've understood the position sellers are in. Ebay has been a vital source of rare things and I'd hate to think a fee market is going to end the whole... well anyway.
Can you suggest a really selective and sensitive shortwave regenerative receiver circuit? I have over 1,500 tubes of all filament voltages and probably most of the parts, metal chassis, several small gauges of wire (#20 to #26) and all the knobs , hardware, Trimm headphones, etc. This will be my first project in regen receivers and I want to spend my time building something that really works well. Plugin coils will be OK and a bandspread capability would be nice. I just want something that will work in case of an EMP of any kind happens. Been a Ham since 1979, but never built a regen, but did build my own amps, Heathkits, antenna relays and such. Built a MFJ regen receiver, but it was all solid state stuff. I have been asking for a good circuit to build, and it looks like you have the experience to recommend a good one. If I screw up, I won't blame you - guaranteed. Thanks for your videos and your advise! 73's.
Either cancel zero feedback bids, or just go through Facebook marketplace, it's been a really good platform for us to sell a couple of little things through with just as good exposure as scambay & the advantage that you can swap contact details, get a feel for the buyer etc plus it's free.
Update to my previous comments: eBay's policy concerning as is no warranty is no longer valid. The answers are there in comments left from others below concerning this. The CEO of eBay decided to go away from a flea market based selling and will honor any returns. I agree with him now that I know this, and if we disagree then we can take our business elsewhere. This is free enterprise and the CEO can run his business anyway he chooses. Gives me a whole different perspective on things.
Praying for you my friend. I hope all goes well for you and you feeel better soon. God bless you my friend. God loves you. Remember forgiveness towards the people that hurt you can really help you.
harbor freight, open the box and make sure of what you are buying NEW. Often I find used tools put back on the box and up for sale. Tie rod pullers all bent up, etc...
Radiotvphononut, Love your videos and have learned so much from them. By chance, can you show how to remove that needle cartridge? I can not figure out how to remove it so I can replace it.
In addition, Ebay charges a sales commission on the postage costs, which have become exorbitant... If you are not Amazon, and have sweet deal with the shipping companies, the cost to ship... especially large boxes, which you need to pack delicate things properly... has gone through the roof.
Unfortunately I have a different situation (I know it is not relevant to this video and posts) that is often the case with heavy and vintage equipment. Happened today. Legit seller, legit buyer. Probably more relevant to the 'bubble wrap theater' issue you have encountered before, but that situation of poor packaging has not happened to me but rather the USPS probably the culprit with even very well-packed equipment. What to be learned of here is buy something refurbished, not used and the item works without how well it works. Many of non-restored cassette recorders have bad belts or from a smoker's home, causing recording quality problems. Other thing is you have not a clue whether the item is sent via UPS, FedEx, or USPS. UPS or FedEx are ideal for high price or weight packages. Had just bought a tape deck and arrived damaged, and it was both heavy and not a cheap purchase. This is an example where the risk of damage is higher with USPS. It was a neat vintage high-end unit that is hard to come by in restored condition, especially one where the seller was hesitant to sell, where that hard work went down the spiral. Always best to have a tracking number, insured, and on camera doing unboxing because this sort of thing happens more often then one might think.
I never made any money as a small seller on eBay. I had a fake buyer who didn't pay with a fake id. I sometimes buy small items with decent feedback on the seller but I lost confidence in eBay a long time ago and hardly use it.
And now PayPal keep the percentage after a refund....See Louis Rossmann's rant. Louis is fantastic at ranting BTW, I would buy tickets. It feels like such an injustice and takes the fun out of selling and buying...E-Bay don't seem to suffer for the sake of 'doing business' - Far from it. One bad experience can ruin the whole thing and one big loss can stop you trading. E-Bay ought to realise that, except they are so big natural wastage and the birth rate is central to their growth rate statistics. They simply couldn't give a sh*t.
@@richardhz-oi8px Hi Richard, I like that you chose 3700Hz....Peak aural sensitivity, 0dB...Is that why you chose it? Hope to see you in the Rossmann comments ))
@@martinda7446 The reason for my choice in frequency is that is was the key tone signal used to indicate whether calls picked up and/or trunks were occupied in the Bell System's N1 type carrier, which used RF channels over wire pairs to increase the amount of calls that could be carried on two wire pairs. The later systems such as N2, N3 and the coaxial based L-carrier all used the more famous 2600hz tone, which could be blasted down the line and allow early hackers('60s-'70s) called Phone Phreaks to hack the network and place free calls. 3700hz was higher than talk frequencies and as such hacking attempts could be easily defeated with a high pass filter at each end of the trunk.
@@richardhz-oi8px I thought it sounded familiar..It may have been chosen as that is where the ear is most sensitive. There is a significant dip in the Fletcher Munson curves at that point and the ear is 18dB more sensitive there than at 1khz. Though it looks like they have chosen the 0dB threshold at 1khz these days? (even if it isn't). I'm sure it used to follow those famous curves?
I sold a Fluke 12 to a slant in florida and he dropped it trying to change the battery and blamed me. I had to refund his money. He even lost the contact strips inside of it. GGGGRRRRR!!!!!!!!
yeah I sold a restored rare Decca 45 only player on ebay about 15-20 yrs ago & the guy claimed it didn't work & sent it back. The cartridge had been removed & replaced with a bad one! I replaced the cart again & sent it back to him at MY cost, then he claimed it hummed. I had him send it back again & this time he didn't package it well & it was damaged in shipping! I never DID refund his money (that was before this "Buyer protection" crap) I glued the cabinet back together & sold it to a friend/collector & he still has it & it still works perfectly! Upon reading that guys feedback profile, I discovered he has bought MANY stereo/record players from people & stolen parts & sent it back! His name was "Sparky-Bear" on Ebay.
Our society rewards thievery now; just try working in, or owning a restaurant. You always have to give the customers a bunch of Free things, and then comp part of their bill; and don't even think about a tip.
According to ebay, sellers are expected to take a "hit" here and there. They say that there are more honest buyers than there are scammers. I hate their policies and I stopped selling on ebay.
I see some sellers won't accept bids from someone if their feedback is low. Sorry to hear about your experience. That person probably knew Ebay will get them their money back. Now this is just me but I would have asked them to send the player back and only if it arrives in the same shape as it left you would return their money.
That is a reason I do not sell on eBay anymore because I sold a disco light on eBay they filed a claim and when I received the fixture back parts were missing off the light itself the buy a clearly broken the thing on purpose and pinch the bulb out of the fixture itself
That's so dam wrong ,but some people are just crooks ,looking for something for nothing ,if I ever have a problem I will send pictures and anything else they want .like the last radio I bought It was packed so bad they damage a collector radio ,but there were before picture showing it was perfect and I show how badly they packed it .I sorry you got ripped off everyone no,s you are a honest guy,I learned a lot from you and your rants about packing and such, keep up the rants.
I stopped selling on eBay years ago for just that fact. They collect all the fees from sellers and NOTHING from buyers! Yet they give all the protections to buyers. Make the buyers pay fees too! So many ways to sell locally without the hassle of shipping, paypal fees and crooked buyers.
It has been years since I've bought anything on Ebay. How hard is it to sell through Amazon? I think a lot of the books and DVDs I've bought are from independent sellers (local bookstores in towns, etc.) that sell through Amazon.
I see eBay as a necessary evil. Nowadays with the way thrifts and Goodwills are pushing out vintage electronics eBay is another "catch" for things not to automatically end up in a landfill. Of course selling on there is increasingly a gamble but if eBay went away nothing would replace it and much more would just be trashed with no hope.
It once was, that everyone felt that eBay favored the seller, but now that eBay is competing with Amazon, and it seems that most of the eBay sellers are made up of bigger companies selling new stuff (alot of them selling on Amazon as well) and now things are very different on there. You’d probably do better to create yourself a website (www.radiotvphononut.com or some such) to showcase your business and sell restored machines directly from there. You’d probably have to set up a way to capture and collect credit card payments (waiting on money orders sent by the mail would just be another horror story, plus most people probably wouldn’t bother doing business that way anymore). Yes, you probably got scammed and I understand how you feel, but it really just has more to do with people’s lack of morality these days. About a dozen years ago, I was selling new-old-stock antique car parts at a swap meet for a brand specific car make at a club event. At the end of the day, several items were missing when I packed up. Yep, somebody actually shoplifted items right in front of me while my head was turned or I was helping someone else.
This is exactly why I have absolutely nothing to do with eBay....With all the scamming that goes on these days, you just don’t know who to trust anymore...Remember the good ole days when you didn’t have to worry about this sort of thing?
If you listed it just as unknown condition or something then you right.. the buyer had no case... but if you listed the item as WORKING condition and then when they got it it wasn't then they could return no matter what your 'policy' is. If the item is not as described then hat is automatically eligible for return. If it is an item that is just for 'parts' or not working order then I would make the buyer pay for return shipping in that case and subtract the shipping you paid t get it there from their monetary return...
Sellers have no rights. Ship an item, show a receipt that you did so and if there’s no tracking, the buyer can get the item and their money as well. Just happened to us a while ago. Sent some tubes to China. Buyer claims he didn’t get them. I’m sure he did and we’re out our wholesale price and shipping.

I won't use Reverb after having a seller refuse to ship something I bought there. I had to take it off credit card before Reverb would deal with it. So they are worse than Ebay.
List the condition of the unit as "for parts or repair" and the buyer won't be able to return the unit, then In the description state that the unit works perfectly fine but you don't offer refunds or returns so its being listed for parts or repair. If someone really wants it they wont care that they cant return it.
You still have the ability to cancel any bids made by any person no matter how much feedback they have. Many times someone will enter the wrong bid amount, or accidentally bid on something they didn't want to buy to begin with. The bidder actually has the option to cancel as well.
That person will definitely be blocked and there will also be a firm "no zero feedback bidders" rule in place and if anyone breaks that rule, their bid will be cancelled. I did that at first; but, then let up on that rule and we see where it got me.

One issue with Ebay is that it is managed and operated by people from another country who have a "Burger King" concept of customer service. I feel strongly that if it were an American company with American values and retail concepts, the situation would be different. Customer service is handled by some idiot in a cubicle in either India or the Philippines. I worked for Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, so I know the concept of "going the extra mile " for the consumer.. Ebay is only a place to now buy an obscure item that is difficult to find. I also "used to sell" on Ebay and have been cheated by dishonest buyers ( the worst is a similar story to this one ).
I won't sell on Ebay I sell my record players on facebook marketplace as it's free and I alow the buyer to collect and they can see it working I also won't send something out unless it is working perfect and I also garrentee my items for 3 month and never had a problem as you Americans say Ebay sucks
Unfortunate you can’t put in the listing no returns, eBay wouldn’t ever stick with that, as unfair as that sounds it’s true. I know I went through that many times, that’s why I don’t sell anything anymore
radiotvphononut, I feel the same way about eBay and that I why I stopped selling there. I contacted you through eBay before about some springs for the Magnavox console I am working on. I would extend an offer to send you a nice RCA record player in exchange for your help in getting the Magnavox up and running proper. I will take the first step in building trust and supplying you with items for your channel. I know how to pack. You will know how to contact me so we can exchange items for help on the Magnavox. My goal is to fix the Magnavox and find some family who has lost everything in a tornado or other unfortunate ways enjoy what that console can give. I acquired the Maggie for something to learn on, replacing caps, troubleshooting, etc...I have videos on my channel so you can see where I am at with the console. That is why I never SELL on EBAY, I only buy.
Sellers have NO rights.
I agree with you!
I don't use ePay period, if I can avoid it.
I don’t sell on eBay, I always donated stuff to places like the Hudson Valley Restore, Red Hook Community Center, and other venues like Goodwill, etc., not eBay.
One thing Ebay doesn't seem to understand...without sellers, there would be NO ebay!
@@teacfan1080 Without buyers there'd also be no ePay... The thing is that the big stores aren't going anywhere... So they have sellers.
Yep, and Ebay forgets that it was those "flea market sellers" who made them what they are today.
And why would anyone want to buy anything "as is with no warranty". Sounds like people just passing off junk that shouldn't be sold online in the first place. There's always a place for that kind of stuff, it's called a flea market.
@@williamevans2176 Because it's dirt cheap.
Ebay needs a seller lawsuit for unjust desicion making.
Jesus Sanchez Amen brother!
Well said.
100% agree with you its happened to me in the past more than once . It is totally one sided I've lost hundreds.
Never,Ever sell to a zero feedback bidder. I lost my shirt on a car i sold a few years back.
I once found a shirt in a car I bought?? Was your car an ex dry cleaner delivery vehicle?
Did it get caught in the door, as the new buyer drove away?
ModMokkaMatti yes,I never ran faster in my life.
Martin D A. yes,did you buy my dry cleaning delivery vehicle.
eBay is all about the big power sellers and the little guy looses too much, sad, very sad.
You have no idea how it works.
Buyers have removed parts from a working item, swapped the bad part from their unit and returned it to you. You can't resell it.
@@zulumax1 I know that happens, but first of all, I would say that's unlikely to happen in this case, and second of all, doesn't eBay give sellers any recourse for that at all? Serious question.

I don't blame you. I haven't sold anything on eBay in a while. I haven't been burnt yet, but it is bound to happen.

Ebay was built on small time sellers. It was a great site way back when. Now they just cater to bullshit and have done just that for a decade now.
Just out of curiosity, what was the buyers state in this case?
CA
I quit selling, several years ago, because I was tired of getting raped by the final value fees (eBay AND Paypal!).
I wouldn't expect eBay to change their policy anytime soon.
Great video. EBay nice for buying BUT not for selling.
I've had sellers suddenly cancel on a sold item for no reason. I see what you're saying - I'm getting tired of the whole thing.

I stopped selling on eBay years ago for just that fact. They collect all the fees from sellers and NOTHING from buyers! Yet they give all the protections to buyers. Make the buyers pay fees too! So many ways to sell locally without the hassle of shipping, paypal fees and crooked buyers.
They should look at the sellers feedback and when they see the seller has 100 percent abs the buyer has no history, they should back the seller

It has been years since I've bought anything on Ebay. How hard is it to sell through Amazon? I think a lot of the books and DVDs I've bought are from independent sellers (local bookstores in towns, etc.) that sell through Amazon.
3Cr15w311 I sell books on Amazon and have not added any for at least a year. Their fees are outrageous on books.
@@thermionic1234567 I figured that might be the case, so only a fairly large organization or store could sell through them.
What’s your eBay?
If it is an item that is just for 'parts' or not working order then I would make the buyer pay for return shipping in that case and subtract the shipping you paid t get it there from their monetary return...
it should have insurance on it with fedex? they usually give you $100 free insurance when you use fedex
Sellers have no rights. Ship an item, show a receipt that you did so and if there’s no tracking, the buyer can get the item and their money as well. Just happened to us a while ago.
I need your help in obtaining parts for a Califone 1130C record player. Idler wheel and cartridge number / brand and stylus number / brand. Love your channel.
The cartridge is likely a Tetrad and the idler wheel is likely a 1407-03. You can get these parts from www.thevoiceofmusic.com.
I've sold a few things on eBay, haven't been burned by buyers. However, the fees upon fees upon fees make what I end up with, not worth the trouble.
This is why I don’t buy vintage stuff due to not working or unrepairable. I buy vinyl LP’s, 45’s, 78’s, reel tapes, cassettes, Films (8mm, 16mm, or Super 8), and VHS tapes from sItes like eBay, Etsy, Amazon, etc.
Can you not sell to anyone without a minimum of say, 10+ transactions?
your always spot on mate
same BS here in UK LOL ebay are a pain in the butt
I think you should "out" the buyer so other sellers will not accept bids from them.
You never see those zero feedbackers ever again.
....mostly anyhow.
Good point. Add this one to your blocked bidder list: brend_trist
Maybe check out reverb. I'm not sure how they work but they have vintage record players for sale. They may be no better than Ebay.
I won't use Reverb after having a seller refuse to ship something I bought there. I had to take it off credit card before Reverb would deal with it. So they are worse than Ebay.
@@fiercefeline5096 That's good to know.
Amen. I would also like to see a good alternative to eBay.
If anyone knows of one, please post it here.
Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me...
List the condition of the unit as "for parts or repair" and the buyer won't be able to return the unit, then In the description state that the unit works perfectly fine but you don't offer refunds or returns so its being listed for parts or repair. If someone really wants it they wont care that they cant return it.
And, to add to this, If you list a $1000 computer, Ebay takes an enormous amount of money.
I feel your pain friend. I hate selling on Fleabay.
Are you allowed to turn away zero feedback sellers?
You used to be able to cancel 0 feedback bidders in the past but I cannot say if that's still applicable today.
You still have the ability to cancel any bids made by any person no matter how much feedback they have. Many times someone will enter the wrong bid amount, or accidentally bid on something they didn't want to buy to begin with. The bidder actually has the option to cancel as well.
Thanks.
i buy on ebay but wont sell on there as i know they are not on the sellers side ,,an a lot want free stuff ..
I set up my ebay buyer preferences for no 'zero feed back' bidders but magically it gets set back by ebay.
Make sure you never sell to that person again. If eBay's fails you talk to pay pal they have helped me when eBay didn't.
That person will definitely be blocked and there will also be a firm "no zero feedback bidders" rule in place and if anyone breaks that rule, their bid will be cancelled. I did that at first; but, then let up on that rule and we see where it got me.
@@radiotvphononut we all no you as a honest man,but when eBay didn't help me pay pay did a couple of times.best of luck to you always
@@radiotvphononut there will always be ass holes out there, the only thing we can do is try to keep it to a minium,I also found one time I wasnt happy with ebay and once with amazon who wasnt any help to me I ask for his supervisor, problem fixed and I even got some money ,some of the peeons were afraid to make a good decision,so I talk with his boss problem fixed.
Same old same ol with evil bay done it to me now it's cash on collection
It's a crapshoot. My buyer rating is 100% positive. I've never burnt a seller.
For me and you it is not about the money but the love of the gear and learning something and bringing joy to others. Hang in there doors will open to you where you didn't expect when you do the right thing.
Take Scotty Kilmer's advice he's a master.mechanic with 50 yr experience. He's done videos on buying a used car and he says "don't trust anyone".
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂he’s the last guy I’d go for car repair advice...😂😂😂😂😂😂
My point was you can't trust anyone. I just assume anything I buy on ebay is a risk.
Upsets me you're out for your time labor cost parts I'm happy to have any good record player you restore I can't stand scammer's Ebay no it's not the cost of doing the business no hits we fight for survival yes well said
Back in the day you used to be able to demand postal money orders for payment. That was great.

+shango... I'm pretty sure I get the gist....
they probably just didn't like the thing for what it's now meant to be, very cute & *collectible* / for worn outish records. This person should have bought Crosley crap-whiff Frisbee player hot glued together and gotten burned that way. I bet that's why I snarked out a bit on that thing's video, I knew it was trouble! Again, apologies.. Oh well, win some, lose some, chef.
I do collection only. They see it, they agree and they scan it
