Thank you, Matthew! I always appreciate your honest, not pretentious book reviews, your reading tips and wish you good luck with publishing your story.
Hey. Loved your video and so many interesting answers. You have a great subdued dry humor to you that i find endearing. Your advice and answer to my Question made me laugh out loud, and may be the best advice I have gotten yet! "What ever your house rules, pick your battle, because you are going to lose all of them." Fantastic! The realest advice I have yet to get. Thank you so much and keep the content coming.
Kettle Bell was heavy and it never got lighter. Seems like a metaphor. Ireland was the first place I went in Europe. Loved it. So many great people and stories. Favorite John Wayne Movies: 1) True Grit 2) Big Jake 3) Rio Lobo 4) The Searchers 5) Big Jake Ah, Daphne Moon. Had quite the crush on Jane Leaves at one point in my life.
Thanks for being a good sport and answering all the questions Matthew, it’s always great to find out more about our favorite booktubers. Kevin did a great job and I did make it to the end!
Thank you, Matthew, for answering my questions! And all the others, too. It was nice to get to know you a bit better. If you are ever planning to visit Germany, please let me know!
Thank you! I wasn't sure I explained myself very well. Trying to compare what you want to do with your life, with getting on the boat. Moby Dick is amazing!
It rings true! Also, I love thinking about how I use scenes/characters from literature to think more clearly and gain insight into my own real-life-experiences and Moby Dick is such a rich and valuable resources in that respect!
I have to add, I'm in love with Ireland, too! It's such a beautiful country with such lovely people. Everyone knows the famous pictures of this country, but when I went there, reality was so much more impressive. I sat at some places for hours in silence just watching and being in awe. I would certainly love to live there too! So I can only highly recommend a visit there!
Hi Matthew, congratulations! I'm really glad I found your channel (I think it may have been through the recommendation of Jason from Byways in Bookland), love hearing your insights. I missed my chance to ask a question, because I wanted to think about what to ask you a bit longer 😅 I was wondering what other German writers apart from Kafka you enjoy. "Pick your battles, because you'll lose all of them" - truer words were never spoken 😂 And yes, I did make it till the end of the video! I'll repeat Amelia's statement from my side as well: If you're ever in Germany, let me know.
Thomas Mann is a powerhouse, brilliant and incredibly readable. I need to spend more time with German literature, so if you have any favorites I'd love to hear about them. Thank you! Definitely, I'll let you know if I'm in Germany!
I must admit I haven't even read Thomas Mann yet. For some reason, I've always been intimidated by him. Regarding other German authors, I must say I haven't really expanded my horizon all that much beyond the big names. Amongst those, I love Erich Kästner and Hermann Hesse. Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt I haven't read as much of but did really enjoy the few books I read. For poetry, one lesser-known name: Mascha Kaleko. I've looked her up and found one book with a selection of her poetry in English translation.
Loved the idea of the post office. Someday you should read (if you haven’t) Why I Live at the P.O., a short story by Eudora Welty. My daughter attended JHU, and she and I spent more than a few afternoons at BMA. Love the Cone Collection.
I watched all the way through! You did'n't answer the cat breeder question though. But I love the idea of working at that post office! You made crave grilled cheese! LOL.
Have you ever tried writing, short stories, technical writing. Is this an interest to eventually try your hand at, even though there may not be any profit..... at 30.11 I’m laughing hilariously .... “like a mental illness” ....
"I stopped using my kettle bells because it was heavy...they never got any lighter..." 🤣😂 that had me dying
I found your goals answer very touching. Glad to have your presence here on Booktube and that it’s been such a rewarding space for you Matthew

Daphne moon was my guess for why Daphne is named Daphne! Fraiser is a hidden gem!
One of my all-time favorite TV programs!
Thanks for answering questions, this was really interesting. Your personality, surely :) also, 'one hundred years of solitude' is epic!
Hey, will you do a bookshelf tour sometime? Would love to see your collection.
I've been waffling on the idea, I think I'll do a bookshelf series pretty soon. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for answering my questions about your house. Per your wonderful shelves it looks like you have plenty of reading material for quite a while.

Ah, Daphne Moon. Had quite the crush on Jane Leaves at one point in my life.
Those are all really good. I’d add The Quiet Man and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence. Well, really any movie he did with John Ford.
@@theaelizabet Oh my goodness! I forgot "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" thats actually my favorite!
So far Rio Bravo is my favorite. Thank you for the other suggestions!

Thank you! Absolutely will do!
I love the idea of you as Holden C!
I missed out, what type of kitties do you have? I ask because my husband and I do cat rescue.
I really loved what you said about the interaction between Ishmael and Captain Peleg in Moby Dick. That's such a powerful scene!

@@MayberryBookclub Great idea!
Ran is an amazing movie! My favorite Kurosawa film is Throne of Blood which is an adaptation of Macbeth. They are both favorites for us.
I still haven't seen Throne of Blood!

I lucked out, there is a woman in the neighborhood with a family of Maine Coon's!

Yes, I write occasionally, mostly short autobiographical fiction.
If you like Maupassant that much, you can buy the original and learn French.
I've been using an app to learn basic French, I hope one day to read Maupassant in the original!
