I loved seeing your big books! One of my problems is that I accumulate big books because I love reading them so much, but I am a slow reader so it gets out of hand. I could probably do this with 30 books all over 1000 pages. Maybe one year I will just read chunksters all year round. That sounds amazing now that I think about it 😍

I love huge books, I’m drawn to them in shops much more than smaller ones. Reading them all is another matter though!
My longest is probably the complete Sherlock Holmes at about 1,350 pages. That’s one I have read.
It’s amazing to think that we can hold the life’s work of a great author in our hands for the price of a few cups of coffee.

I remember buying a copy of 'Belle de Seigneur' (in French) by Albert Cohen , a big book and the seller was almost tearful as he took my money and on asking him if he was ok he said that he was jealous of anyone who had not read Cohen because he would like to be able to read it again for the first time. I still haven't read it, have had it for years. I feel this way about a 'Hundred Years of Solitude' which I think I read in French ( Cent Ans de Solitude) My house is a library !

I sent Montaigne to a writer friend in Portugal the other day and he loves it, he said that it was proof of why we love each other!

Wow that is a great collection of books!
The biggest one that I have is Plato's Complete works which comes up to 1800 pages, though I often use other editions if I want to go crazy with annotations. War and Peace is the biggest one that I've read cover to cover, a full 1400 pages, I still don't think my wrists have recovered😄

I too love Holmes. I have read all his books.i wish he'd do another literary biography. Thomas Mann is great, "Magic Mountain" and "Joseph and his Brothers" are fine books too. "Les Miserables" is a wonderful read too. This was an excellent video, Matthew.

Fantastic Video as always. I look forward to the day you eventually read Monte Cristo as it is undoubtedly my favourite novel of all time. I read it in the space of around 6 days and I spent nearly every single waking moment reading it, up to the point where my girlfriend would complain and my eyes would become sore. But I could simply not put it down, and whilst I have read many fantastic novels since, nothing has ever come close to matching the experience I had whilst reading this book.

This was great Matthew! I love long books. I’m boxing up books for my move at the end of February. Otherwise I’d be excited to do this. I did pick up a chunker the other day that I’m hoping to read this year, Freedom by William Safire, it’s over 1200 pages 😊

I hope this becomes a tag because I love seeing everyone’s big books. I’m slinking back to reading the sonnet that is Orley Farm (750 pages).

Don't know if this kind of book counts, but the largest one on my shelves is The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, the 12th edition that I have is almost 2100 pages. Nobody likes the newest 13th edition because it's only 1600 pages.

It was cool to see how big Les Misérables looked compared to The Bible! Who needs a gym when they have big books! 😉
