Small history lesson about denim signifying wealth: While the iron curtain was down, american made products were rare and expensive. Someone would get to go abroad and bring a bag fool of foreign clothes to give to all the family and friends. Denim jeans would absolutely be the type of thing to brag about in school. After the iron curtain fully fell, in 1991, former societ union countries were in disarray - political, legal, economical. In Russia, "New Russians" quickly took advantage of the shaky economic and legal systems during that time. Many of them are oil barons and are influential in the government now, some didn' make it. The stereotype is of them in denim and gold - most expensive objects in the eyes of very recently poor, soviet-born New Russians
I remember hearing that people would often cut their worn out jeans into scraps for cushioning and protecting mail, and that people in Japan would sew those denim scraps back into jeans and sell them.
I remember one of my teachers used to say that he would go to Russia and his like (teacher/guide? Not sure) would tell them to wear multiple layers of jeans so they could sell them for money there.
I'm russian, and I literally "inherited" an american eagle jean jacket from my mother lmao. it used to be one of her most prized possessions back in the 90s when she got it as a gift from the states
Listening to the podcast this year, I noticed that a lot of times when I am down, and I have some therapeutic conversations with myself, my voice of reason is basically Jordan (with my thoughts). It's me telling myself 'Your feelings are valid, it is hard right now....but also, admittedly, it IS silly' and that helps a lot. The seriousness mixed with the necessary levity in your podcast is unmatched.
Don't know if you guys will see this but I'd jsut like to say that i absolutely love this show. I've tried to listen/watch lots of podcasts- both from creators that i already enjoy and new people- but you guys have really only been the show to stick for me. I really like the format of the show and how it's so easy to listen to because of the neurodiversity tbh, like this is my usual group dynamic where people interact and im just happy to listen in, and it's good to listen to for the many hours -- I really like that yall are finding your pacing and like finding the balance between what it means to be "Sad Boyz" and having serious conversations while also paying attention to your own boundaries. yall are doing great imo and i'm really glad and proud that you, as disabled people, have been able to find accommodations for yourself to make such a dream job possible! I think finding things to do that you are comfortable doing for a living is really important and I hope I find that for myself some day
As a locksmith apprentice, one, locks that accepts a lot of keys arent necessarily shitty, yeah they can be compermused easier but locks that take multiple keys are incredibly useful and have their place. Two, women are absolutely nothing like locks and thats an insane comparison 💀💀💀
This is very niche but I love how nicely you talk to your person off camera. I watch a lot of podcasts where they demand or just tell they’re person what to do
39:30 re: the lock and key metaphor, my first thought is that if multiple people have the key to your house, it's because you gave them a copy. If someone has a key that opens many doors (like a skeleton or master key) and could get into your house without permission, that's much scarier.
my take on it is insecurity, like they think the "other key holder" is in a position to come back in and open the door at any time. just an attempt to not come out and directly say "you can't have male friends because you're 100% going to cheat on me"
i discovered this show from y'all's interview with BGD and have listened to nearly every episode since. i can't comment on how the show may have changed, but i will let y'all know i really enjoy the cadence, the rambles, the feels. Happy New Years ya sad boyz
as someone whose name is Avril i relate to him always getting asked if he's like the MCU jarvis. can't get through a day wearing my nametag at work without someone asking me if i have heard of/was named after avril lavigne (and no, i was born long before her career lol)
The lock analogy is identical rhetoric to the things I was taught in church such as girls being compared to licked cupcakes, chewed gum, etc. The fact that the same thing with different words is still being used makes me a bit rage-y.
I always thought that "It's all downhill from here" means that you've reached the peak already. You can rationalize how difficult it is to go uphill because you're trying to see the view at the top of the mountain. Once you do that, the best part of the situation has already happened, and there's nothing to look forward to at the bottom.
Actually sense 8 got an additional movie length episode after the cancellation to finish off the show So the ending is actually pretty good, especially considering that it did what a whole season would have done It’s my favourite show so I’m super biased but you should really watch it
1:57:51 I have almost the exact same stuffed elephant, and it's the one I've had since I was literally an infant. I don't know how to describe how horrifying it was to look up from my crocheting to see her violently cutting it open via the ass.
“it’s all downhill from here”- out of one’s control and definitely gunna get worse “it’s all uphill from here”- can’t get worse with a lot of work to do to get back to base level.
I feel your pain on names, after South Park...I STILL hear random "you killed Kenny, you bastards!" And then they ask "heard that before"? Oh no, you were the first. At least I know better than to say stupid things regarding people's names lol.
you know this might actually be the worst one. Good for you for not letting it turn you completely feral, I think I'd be slashing tyres by now if I got that south park quote thrown at me all the time. I find south park irritating generally but that one particularly irks me for some reason lol
@@RealElongatedMuskrat It's pretty rare these days, but it still happens even 20+ years later, lol. I just give a really blank look, and they usually get flustered, hahah.
1:04:53 Dude what Jordan is saying about the little things that are frustrating about immigration, it’s so applicable to housing insecurity too. I’ve moved like three times in the past 2 years and it such little things that like, you get a fucking pack of pens and you’re like FUCK! YES! And you have somewhere dedicated to put it and it’s so satisfying, just knowing where your goddamn pens are lmao
I always thought of the phrase "it's only downhill from here" as meaning you're getting closer to rock bottom, but your thinking makes sense too! Also, sisyphus should put the boulder in the back of his Ford F1 pickup truck
I’m a newer viewer so I can’t comment on the change. I can say the show has become a great part of my week to get through the monotony of my job. And I definitely feel like Jordan described. You guys aren’t my friends, you are the boys i listen to shoot the shit at work and it makes me feel less alone and crazy when the people at work are shitters sometimes.
Jordan bringing up Mr. Sunday Movies for some reason blew my mind. It's weird to think that the guy I listen to while I make art/relax does the same thing with another channel I listen to while I make art/relax. Every week I look forward to Sad Boyz on Fridays and Caravan of Garbage on Thursdays, and now I know THE sad boy™ is looking forward to it with me. Small world, or small Internet in this case
I found the podcast this year and it's been such a wonderful source of comfort and fun!! I'm not really a podcast person but I just love your style and humour, it's so easy and pleasant to listen to your conversations
there's actually an audio musical w jonathon groff in it called 36 questions, where a couple uses the 36 questions to fall in love as a way to cope and move on after a huge fallout in their relationship. it's wayyy more interesting than it sounds, i just can't go more into detail without spoiling certain parts
Irregardless actually is a word, functionally synonymous with regardless, even though that doesn't make sense grammatically anyway love the pod keep up the good work
I really enjoy the podcast, but one thing that has been a little weird/kind of bothering me is when the podcast thumbnail topic is the same as the most recent Gold video. It means I usually pass over the Sad Boys episode the first time it pops up bc I mistakenly think they are the same video. I don't mind the overlapping topics (I actually love the vibe of Jarvis excitedly showing Jordan the newest Internet thing), but it's definitely changing how I engage with the videos.
Jordan is so right when he says some people seek it just for the social. I work from home and miss having bustle around me, coworkers, etc. Sad Boyz is kind of like having people talk about stuff around me while I work, I love it
I know this is late but for sure. I always had the option to work from home at my job but I rarely did because I always had tech problems and being in the office forced me to be social instead of hanging out in my room all day. The problem now is that I do occasionally go work in my office but no one else is there and it’s more depressing.
Adding to the many ways the lock analogy makes no sense - I'm pretty sure I've seen a video of a locksmith explaining that it's easier to make a key that works for many locks than it is to make a lock that can accept many keys.
Bringin in the new year with this pod! I'm a bit of a newer watcher (probably started regularly watching about 5 months ago), but I love it. I legit put it on whenever I'm cooking, doing my hair, or an hour before bed. Y'all's style of humor is very appealing and the way y'all structure the pods just hits. It feels like I'm listening to two people shootin the shit. Sometimes the focus is on things I've heard about and sometimes it isn't. Then I can learn something new (like Pokémon lore). Anyway, forgot where I was originally going with this so happy new year!
1:32:15 Jordan also being a listener of literally my favorite podcast ever is not something I expected to find out, love my lil Australian nerd dads at the Weekley Planet
i absolutely hate “…all but…” example how i see it: “it was all but silent in the room after he farted” surely they mean it was silent in the room, i read it as tho it was everything EXCEPT silent. here’s how i always want to word this sort of phrasing: “the colorful art was amazing, though he used all but green, my favorite.”
FINALLY I have found fellow olive haters. I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life lol I only accept olive oil ofcourse. Edit: Second opinion of mine is my hatred for mushrooms. 2nd Edit: Final opinion is my hatred for carrots.
Even though Sense8 did get cancelled, the fans insisted so much (sent letters, started petitions) that netflix made a two and a half hours movie/episode to close the story, so it doesn't have an incomplete ending, it's pretty good actually
‘Would of’ (instead of would’ve) and ‘this is how it looks like’ (saying how AND like is unnecessary) are two phrases that people say that get on my nerves
About the Olive hate. They are meant to be pungent to reset your smell and taste. Olives are the OG pallet cleanser and serve their purpose just fine with one on top of a toothpick on a sandwich or on the side of a charcuterie to go after the snacks and before dinner. It is the anti-mint and serves that purpose well. I only eat 2-3 with a meal though, and green olives on a pizza does sound overpowering, and that pizzeria had a psychopath for a cook.
I am generally an olive hater, but one of the puerto rican restaurants near my house cooks olives (sparingly) into their rice, and this may be the one application where I understand 🙏🏾
Adaption vs adaptation is more complicated than “it’s wrong”. Both are words, some people claim both have the same meaning, some say it’s subtly different
Love hearing the NBA talk! I grew up around basketball, and - like Jarvis - my boyfriend started watching NBA RUclips and is now a huge fan. We're going to see a Celtics and Bucks game soon!
Thanks for this long episode guys. It took me a few day to click on it, with the new year and everything, but I am very happy that I did. HAVE A STRONG 2024 BOYZ
I had a goal to be asleep by midnight and wanted a really wholesome but entertaining thing to listen to to be the first thing going in my brain to end the new year and I chose Sad Boyz. It's morning now and time to watch it instead of listening so I can start the year right with side butt.
You guys are so much fun! I think I found you through Jacksepticeye being on an episode and I have been listening to every episode ever since. I'm seriously considering subscribing on patreon because I never enjoyed a podcast this much. Hope you'll have a nice new year's eve!

I think "all downhill from here" is always supposed to mean "it's going to get easier" whereas the very similar phrase "it's an uphill battle" means it's difficult.
It drives me nuts that Jarvis doesn’t have a bad angle. Just 100%, all the time.

Adding to the many ways the lock analogy makes no sense - I'm pretty sure I've seen a video of a locksmith explaining that it's easier to make a key that works for many locks than it is to make a lock that can accept many keys.
Am I the only one who absolutely lost it hearing the AI girlfriend designers collaborated with Mike Wazowski?
Bringin in the new year with this pod! I'm a bit of a newer watcher (probably started regularly watching about 5 months ago), but I love it. I legit put it on whenever I'm cooking, doing my hair, or an hour before bed. Y'all's style of humor is very appealing and the way y'all structure the pods just hits. It feels like I'm listening to two people shootin the shit. Sometimes the focus is on things I've heard about and sometimes it isn't. Then I can learn something new (like Pokémon lore). Anyway, forgot where I was originally going with this so happy new year!
jordan has genuinely motivated me to be more funny
1:03:38 It's so comforting to me as a fellow adult that still hasn't gotten my driver's license that I'm not alone
Jordan being a Weekly Planet fan makes me so happy
A weekly wakadadoo if you will.
Love that Jordan listens to the Weekly Planet and as these are the only two podcasts I actively listen to, he's right about the vibes being similar.
1:32:15 Jordan also being a listener of literally my favorite podcast ever is not something I expected to find out, love my lil Australian nerd dads at the Weekley Planet
i absolutely hate “…all but…”
example how i see it: “it was all but silent in the room after he farted”
surely they mean it was silent in the room, i read it as tho it was everything EXCEPT silent. here’s how i always want to word this sort of phrasing: “the colorful art was amazing, though he used all but green, my favorite.”
Fun fact: Irregardless has been used so frequently that it is in fact a word, it means the same thing as regardless.
This is the only podcast I rlly stuck with. Go you guys!
FINALLY I have found fellow olive haters. I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life lol
I only accept olive oil ofcourse.
Edit: Second opinion of mine is my hatred for mushrooms.
2nd Edit: Final opinion is my hatred for carrots.
might as well burn your tastebuds off bc ur not using them anyways
I despise your edits but ultimately concede to your original comment
Does anyone else find fruit flavors in drinks and teas to be awful?
@@tyjaelittle36I may hate onions and pickles but I'm not a monster
I don't know why it exactly but it really rubs me the wrong way when Jordan isn't in the thumbnails.
jordan erasure
Even though Sense8 did get cancelled, the fans insisted so much (sent letters, started petitions) that netflix made a two and a half hours movie/episode to close the story, so it doesn't have an incomplete ending, it's pretty good actually
I love that picture of lebron it feels like I’m playing an until dawn type game where I’m on his narrative and I’ve paused the game
‘Would of’ (instead of would’ve) and ‘this is how it looks like’ (saying how AND like is unnecessary) are two phrases that people say that get on my nerves
I've been waiting for this episode! Something nice to do my new year cleaning
i listen to this podcast every night for a bit before bed, it helps me wind down to go to sleep :3
My favorite podcast this year! Can't wait to see what you guys do next! 💗
I am generally an olive hater, but one of the puerto rican restaurants near my house cooks olives (sparingly) into their rice, and this may be the one application where I understand 🙏🏾
Adaption vs adaptation is more complicated than “it’s wrong”. Both are words, some people claim both have the same meaning, some say it’s subtly different
ngl the 'only downhill from here' debate drove me a little crazy :3
thanks for the extra long podcast episode to send off the year, sad boyz! can't wait to listen to more new episodes in 2024 🖤
Love hearing the NBA talk!
It's morning now and time to watch it instead of listening so I can start the year right with side butt.
not the olive slander on this episode
Somehow I NEVER made the link between
Jarvis and Marvel Jarvis until he mentioned it.. Wild!
WOOOOOO🎉🎉🎉🎉!!!! 2 AND A HALF HOURS !!!!!
You guys are so much fun! I think I found you through Jacksepticeye being on an episode and I have been listening to every episode ever since. I'm seriously considering subscribing on patreon because I never enjoyed a podcast this much. Hope you'll have a nice new year's eve!
I always thought when people say "I could care less" it's being ironic or sarcastic. like "oh yeah, I could totally care less... NOT"..
Petition for Sad Boyz should get The Weekly Planet boyz on the pod.
I feel so seen at 17:58. I always say this and no one gets it/thinks I'm wrong. Thank u Jarvis.
ya'll look so handsome in this video! i love the monochrome look and all black with a chain is peak and that shirt looks SO good on jordan!
JORDAN LIKES THE WEEKLY PLANET?? OMG I love James and Maso.
23:39 I feel this so much. Every time I introduce myself as Jude, inevitably someone sings or references “Hey Jude” and follows up with “You probably get that all the time.” I do the same awkward smile and just shrug 😭😂
Jordan w long socks is very visually british
2:09:10 i was a blossom but they made her obsessed with control and cleaning while bubbles became more crazy and powerful without losing her cuteness so im more bubbles now 😊
I think "all downhill from here" is always supposed to mean "it's going to get easier" whereas the very similar phrase "it's an uphill battle" means it's difficult.
finally, the olive hating content ive been waiting for
I love this podcast, it's helped me in some of my hardest mornings haha.
Yay! Jordan talking about The Weekly Planet!
as a person named Mercedes: I understand your pain, Jarvis.
(commented at 24:29)
1:05 I literally JUST WATCHED a video about the bankruptcy of Hummer like an hour ago, this is crazy
