I use to go fishing behind the old land fill on wells mill road. Went night fishing one night in August for largemouth bass. It started to thunder and lightning so I started my one mile walk out by myself. Let me tell you this, I WILL NEVER EVER, EVER go back in those pine barrens at night by myself again. Those woods come alive with an energy that you can literally feel in your spine. If you’re into the paranormal then that’s where you wanna go. Good luck

I was born, raised and still live in the heart of the thickest part of the Pine Barrenss in Burlington County and you're absolutely right, you don't know unless you know. how unusual of a place it really is. I remember when this happened, I was living in hammonton at the time and going to my parents in Indian mills(which is the original name of shamong township). People are always wildly surprised by not only how big the pine barrrens are but how truly dense and isolated they are as well as the true eeriness of the place.

My husband, who grew up in New Providence, was creeped out by the Pine Barrens. He said it was a swamp and he REALLY didn’t like it there. And he was a big, strong guy who was usually never afraid of anything.

The Pine Barrens isn't a swamp, altho it does have several bodies of (cedar) water that do run thur it.

I go to a survival school in the Pine Barrens and I remember the first time I went there I very quickly realized how easy it would be to get lost, just because it’s so dense and flat, so there’s nothing for you to orient yourself with. It all looks the exact same every where you turn. Luckily you’ll eventually get to the ocean or a town, but it could take awhile depending on where you’re at. Also, there’s an insane amount of ticks. I grew up on the fringes of the pine barrens and explored them a decent amount as I got older. As someone who has taken many Natural Resource Management courses and some SAR courses, I can confirm they're a very unique environment and searches are definitely an absolute nightmare in this environment. I've never done a "real" search but I can just imagine. It's not even that the terrain is high, hilly or taxing but the vegetation is extremely thick. The ground is extremely sandy and it makes for a lot of mud and just harder to walk. And honestly there is definitely an eerie feeling when driving alone through them at night or even walking among the trees alone. My parents still live in the area of Toms River and when I am visiting oftentimes I'm driving around visiting friends, etc. Oftentimes, I drive back to their house late at night and it is SUPER creepy. I absolutely detest it. People oftentimes think of NJ and think of the suburban/city environment but there are many beautiful parts of the state that are very rugged. The Pine Barrens is definitely the creepiest, IMO. Sad story and very bizarre.

I live in the Pine Barrens, if you're not from the area or inexperienced, you can get lost very quickly. The underbrush is thick and full of insects. There are lower elevation spots that are basically swamp. You can fall into some of the swamps like they're quicksand, possibly even become engulfed.

  • @linkedinlove106

Bryan, I did more reading on this. Asbury Press stated, "their bodies [were] heavily injured from sharp vegetation in the underbrush." From the known factors - gun was found unused, ATV hadn't turned over, the wife had trouble walking but left her cane at home, they had no cellphones, and there were some injuries - it seems to me something happened to one of them and the other refused to leave him/her. Despite being fairly close to home, they may not have realized it in the confusion. Such a sad story, but they passed away together - so some solace in this. Keep making great videos!

Once, hiking in the fall through the dry leaves I happened to hear my steps being matched a short distance away by someone or something also stepping thru the leaves. When I stopped, the steps would stop. When I would start again, they would resume after my 2nd or third steps. While we didn't do extended forensic tox screens, I was in contact with companies that did. That type of testing does take longer, but shouldn't take a year. A few months at most. I was living in NJ for a couple months and ended up hiking 9 miles home after a job interview. Because obviously that is a good idea with no food/water and in an unfamiliar area.
The foliage was so dense, but mostly it was pleasant, just picking berries and strolling along, whistling with the birds. Suddenly felt my hair stand up. Through the treeline saw a shack that was barely standing. I've never felt like that, it was like I needed to get closer, the best description would be a nicotine craving? Just this strange electric desire.
I spent almost 20 minutes standing there staring at it. Suddenly it hit me, I haven't heard a bird in a while, even the cicadas went silent. That snapped me out of my trance. I started walking away and when I looked back at the shack... it was gone. Because I'm a dumbass I went back to see where tf this thing went.
After pacing back and forth a few times i realized what was up. The shack was actually a lot bigger and further away than it seemed because of some funky little hills, insanely deep ditches and much older/larger trees growing around it. The building was only visible along about 7-8 feet of road from the nearest side. Any other position and it disappeared entirely. If you were in a car (this was on along a highway with no walking path) you would never even notice it.
The only part I can't explain is my sudden irrational urge to run over to the creepy shack. I remember thinking "Why do you want this so much? Something is really wrong. You CANT go no matter how badly you want to." Then snapping out of it into dead silence.

She lived near the Pine Barrens, and her home was situated in a wooded area with no neighbors living close by. Anyway at that time, she told me of a event that had happened to her a few weeks prior. As she was about to enter her car, a creature about two feet long jumped on her car, then ran on top of it before running deeper into the woods. She described it as looking like a goblin. She couldn’t find any other word for it. The event left her terrified. She avoids going out at night alone even though her encounter happened in the morning.

      @jasguy2715 2 года назад +5

Since you mentioned rock walls let me tell you about something. Those rock walls you're talking about are all over Eastern Pennsylvania New Jersey Connecticut and Southern parts of New England. I had asked my father about those walls and he had told me when the farmers were clearing the land that's where they stacked the stones well I have since found out those walls made out of that gray fieldstone or at least most of them. The walls were not all made by farmers for the most part. Someone in the early 1800s did some research on those walls and a lot of those old timers were still alive and most of them were not made by farmers. We had one right in back of our house in Bergen county New Jersey. they were all over the place. The really Strange thing is: if you ever noticed those walls start from nowhere then suddenly stop for no reason. Some of the walls actually have a little cove built in them where people can rest or get out of the weather. None of the local Indians like the lenape in New Jersey or the other Indian tribes up in New England build those walls. If you search on RUclips about the walls you'll get a lot of detailed information. Nobody has any idea who built those walls and the other strange rock formations.

@@mountainwench7763 I meant to say a little cove built in to the rock wall. I did a lot of research on this I'm sure there's a few here and there that were built by Farmers but most of them absolutely were not and it's very very strange they start from nowhere and then they end to nowhere with no rhyme or reason. They've also found alter stones in Connecticut I believe and Massachusetts. a mini stonehedge either in Vermont or New Hampshire that lines up with the one in the UK. I lived on the side of the ramapo mountains in New Jersey in a town called Franklin lakes. the area where our house was built, I know they were dwellings there hundreds of years ago or so but the topography the land was kind of bumpy hilly and there was no attempt to level the land out. That area certainly wasn't conducive to farming except small plots. I don't know why anybody would go through the bother of stacking those field stones. Most of those gray field stones are underneath the ground so why somebody went through the bother of transporting them I don't know. there's a lot that we don't know about who is here in this country long ago.

Even in that case I truly believe they don't have a clue as to what happened to that family, the final conclusion is such a crock of you know what, as if they just came up with a theory that could possibly be scientifically confirmed, while if you actually look into what they are saying occurred, there has been not one incident of that happening to a human being ever on record, it's all theory and speculation when they couldn't figure out what happened to those poor people! It was put out only after how big the case got and they knew they needed some sort of answer to go on. Not one account of a human dying from this supposed toxic algae. And these people were highly knowledgeable about hiking and precautions, they were no novices. I'm glad someone else thought of that case as well. Have a wonderful weekend 🙌🏻

The Pine Barrons are the area where Tom Brown 'Tracker' grew up being trained by his Apache medicine man 'Grandfather' along with grandfather's grandson. In his books describing such training, he mentions playing the part of the 'Jersey Devil' . I can recommend his books for a good read, not the general Indian spirituality that stops short of embracing the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit ... but embraces secondary non validated spiritual forces active in the wild. 'Tom Brown Tracker' and 'Way of the Scout' are the main two to begin the stories he relates in episode fashion. Whats nice about it is he relates what he actually went through with grandfather's grandson.

There are people who live deep in the pines and occasionally they will steal some clothes off her line or stuff from her garden. It's not supernatural but there definitely is a clan of people with no real contact with the outside world out there living in the woods and have been for over 100 years. apparently anyone who lives in that area are aware of them.

I wonder if they wiped out on their ATV and were more injured than they thought they were. I mention it because a common injury with atv's is a bruised or ruptured spleen when the handlebars clip under the ribcage (only one option of many). They could have been bleeding internally with relatively few external injuries and just started feeling really tired, decided to rest for a minute and passed in their sleep.
I couldn't get a good gauge of how long the couple were deceased before they were found and just how much decomposition had happened so perhaps this has already been ruled out?
You got me interested in the Pine Barrens! We have an ancient forest here in central Florida. It's unnamed as far as I know but part of it stretches into Big Tree Park. The main part of the forest is in a place called the Environmental Studies Center and is Black Hammock woods. Cypress trees 300-1000 years old scatter within. It truely feels like an ancient land and is about as dense as astroturf. I'm curious how the Pine Barrens would compare?

I grew up in the heart ot the pines. The spooky part is when you are walking through the pines and all of a sudden there is not a sound. No animals nothing. When you keep walking ithe noises fade back slowly.

So sad. Maybe one passed away from a heartache? And the other lay next to them and passed from exposure because they didn't want to leave them or where unable to because of mobility. I hope they're family find peace and answers.

Good stuff once again. It's always a relief listening to Bryan. He takes you away from the daily crazy life ie politics. The worst thing about Bryan is when his stories are over.

I'm also from the area, Browns Mills, Pemberton to Mt Holly and have spent a lot of time in pines, but it White's bogs where I felt the most uncomfortable .. never liked being there at night

I live here too. Ive gone through some places in the pines where I feared for my safety but shook it off as paranoia. Glad I’m not alone!

Thank you for wonderful narration clear concise and professionally presented. RIP Lorraine and Gary. Sincere condolences to the family and friends.
This is definitely a strange case. Does anyone know if they were employed by any company/govt agency dealing with sensitive/personal information.
I'm really baffled by this case. I'm going to keep an eye open for updates on this case.

I’ve spent months in the pine barrens. Camping in many areas. Never had any weird things happen. We had private camp sites that no one ever visited. Loved the pinneys
