Sonic 2 Long Version (which is released alongside Sonic 2 & Knuckles Long Version) is a more complete version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which makes it somewhat similar to Sonic 2 Delta. This hack features four levels originally scrapped during Sonic 2's development. No levels have been changed, only added. Made by Sonic Hachelle-Bee.

The death egg music is worth listening to, especially the drums. Good to see it getting a long level where you can hear the whole thing.

1.8 was released in October 2004, and I don't know when 1.9 was released, or even if it was released, but this means it's been about 18 years since this hack was last updated.

There are all these super cool features there, and yet, somehow the thing that caught me by surprise is how they turned Death Egg into an actual full level. lol
It's mostly just copy and paste from Chemical Plant though. Still kind of neat I suppose.
man i remember hating this rom hack because of how many people saying they found the whole wood zone level layout finally the dev finally made at least wood zone rumor proof
Lost Wood Zone was the only level that caught my attention when I found out about this update because of how much was improved upon its original release.
If only the levels were rearranged to fit the narrative: Emerald Hill, Aquatic Ruins, Great Forest, Hill Top, Mystic Cave, Hidden Palace (WITH MYSTIC CAVE 2P, AND NOT CUTSCENE MUSIC), Casino Night, Dust Hill (WITH CASINO NIGHT 2P, AND NOT MYSTIC CAVE 2P), Oil Ocean (because Oil Ocean came after Mirage Saloon in Mania), Chemical Plant, Metropolis (and a visual change in act 3 to be called "Cyber City").

@Nikash Gill This is one hack worth checking out my friend! It's not just new art in ''Lost Wood Zone'' all the previous bugs from the old version are fixed like the Hidden Palace and Genocide City title card bugs which would crash the game and wreck the graphics, making it now fully playable on a real Mega Drive system. It's a flawless game with Knuckles The Echidna aswell, no mishaps or sudden crashes. I'm not sure why it's called v1.10 when in the level select it clearly says v2.0 May 2005.
This to me has to be the greatest Sonic hack ever made! I've always favoured Sonic 2 over the others so it would be no surprise that I would favour this over so many other well known hacks like Sonic Megamix and Sonic 3 Complete. Love the fact that it just adds more levels instead of changing already existing ones making it a fuller Sonic 2 experience. The sound driver hasn't been messed with or moved to Sonic 1's driver either so no slow music in PAL. Sonic 2 Long Version, Sonic The Lost Worlds and even Sonic 2 Anniversary Edition by Sophiedude are all much better and more mature hacks than that (fickle non sram-saving 40 zone Sonic 2 Delta 40-megabit) hack.
@@Oysterblade84 Well spotted. I did a speed run of Lost Wood Zone last month. That is a little odd about the two version numbers, but oh well.
It's nice to finally experience the definitive version of Sonic hacks that people can truly enjoy. Quality over quantity is the way to go.

An upgraded version on sonic 2 long version. Now we can say this makes it EVEN MORE TIME CONSUMING. Sonic isn’t now the fastest thing alive.
They still got Cyber City wrong/misinterpreted. Perhaps a Future Update will rectify that, but it would make all that custom artwork go to waste.
Also, regarding Death Egg, what if they recreate the Nick Arcade layouts of Chemical Plant so they don't feel repetitive?
This was made *way* before we knew anything about what Cyber City was. At the time the only piece on info we had was that there was a zone named Genocide City in the S2 Simon Wai proto's level select. I don't even think we had Nick Arcade at the time iirc, pretty sure this was 2005.
Edit: it's apparently even earlier, 2004.
In my opinion, Lost Woods needs to be before Hill Top, because a large florested area fits for a mountain climbing, considering that the level many times proceeds in a vertical way
That's actually a major improvement to the beta zones compared to Sonic 2 Delta in my opinion.
The old Wood Zone is now renamed Lost Wood Zone and have more foreground details such as leaf and also a bit more enemies. Although this zone is improved from Sonic 2 Delta, in my opinion the same brown wood tiles are overused and becomes boring to look at after a while (doesn't excite), a bit more variation here could help.
The background at the start of the stage looks rather incomplete (although it might be ripped from the Wood Zone beta stages). This Zone also looks a bit cramped, you travel in straight lines for too long in my opinion, but an improvement over what I saw in Sonic 2 Delta overall.
Rock Desert Zone could in my opinion pass as an official stage, it's very pleasing to look at and the layout seems to be fitting. Genocide City however seems very much like a work-in-progress and both acts are way too short.
Although the naming of this stage originates from Sega themselves, the word genocide feels out of place in the Sonic franchise. The corpses hanging on the walls fits the stage name, but also doesn't fit in a game such as Sonic 2 in my opinion.
Custom bosses would be cool, but I don't think the proper easy to use toolsets to make custom bosses exists as of yet. This project has a lot of potential in my opinion.

I would've renamed "Wood Zone" to "Great Forest Zone" as a tribute to Sonic SatAM.

Even though this romhack is cool, i still think Sonic 2 Delta is somewhat better even Razor & Zenon themselves says its similar to delta.
i do admit Sonic 2 Delta needs a lot of polish and the option to change the charecter sprite

unfortunately dust hill (or rather "rock desert" now) doesn't seem any less confusing than the previous version...
rock desert is hopefully going to be updated the same way lost wood is, the hack's creator hasn't been heard from since like 2004 or something so even getting this is pretty nice

It was one of the reasons why that zone was deleted in the final version.
