The fact that this was completed in under a year makes this one of the biggest success stories in gaming and makes this game one of the best games to release at all.

I love Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles was the most epic Sonic game I ever played as a kid in the 90s. But Sonic 2? Sonic 2 was freakin’ special! It had such awesome levels, music, and such an amazing epic ending when you defeated robotnik and that death egg. All that while you see Sonic becomes Super for the first time. Yeah, Sonic 2 was more than just a game to me. It was an experience. My all time favorite game.
None of these games were translated back then and when I and my friends played it we were still 4 years away from our first English lesson. So we had no idea what the gems were for and ignored them after some time, because we weren't too hyped for the bonus stage. We finished the game without ever going Super Sonic. I'm actually just here to see Sonic going Super Sonic for the first time.
I remember me and my cousins got to the final level after hours of playing. I don’t remember but I don’t think there were memory cards for the genesis back then. If there was I don’t remember. I was so young that maybe I didn’t even know how to save it lol. Then my other older cousins came over and took the control from us and they died in the plane and turtle part. We were so pissed but we never tried it again lol.
I came here for the stage music and this player is going super sonic constantly. I didn't even know you could do that! Would have made the game so much easier 😩
I might be wrong, but I remember at the end, there was a cutscene where Sonic walked outside Metropolis and saw Tails in the plane. IDK, but I just remember.
