When I was a kid I recall watching the amazing illustrations when the map was loading, now that I see it as a young adult I can´t believe the pixels where so notorious, lol. I still love those illustrations and the game itself.
It also helps that some of the main Digimon are pretty easy to draw, especially their digivolved forms. I just drew MetalGreymon (the Vaccine version).
Damn this almost brings tears to my eyes. I remember when I used to LOVE the hell out of this game as a kid. This takes me way back in time. I gotta say that the producers have done a far better job with the first Rumble Arena game. Rumble arena 2 was hot garbage.
I think 2 was better in some ways and worse in others. Having 2 digivolutions was awesome but removing pretty much if not all characters from the first game ain't great

the pixels don't look as noticeable on TV
This was played on CRT TVs which had different image processing than HD TVs today. You probably in HD now, this is why the pixels look worse.
My younger brother and me used to wake up at 6am, just to play it for an hour before going to school
