With how well the Magma deck synergized, I half expected a stadium that would say something like "If a pokemon has no damage counters on it, it is treated as having 2 damage counters on it for meeting the conditions of attacks from Team Magma pokemon".
I like how part of the meta at the time was basically just Wally's team (Gardevoir, Magneton, Delcatty). But yeah, I remember getting a Team Magma starter deck with world championship backs.
Another point is Dunsparce during this era. It was essentially to every top deck and Groudon was very good against it. The Japanese players were playing Chess.
The best thing about this deck is how cheap it was. Almost all card are in magma structure deck. You only need to hunt very few cards in booster packs to make it work
20 years?!? Am I that old? Albeit I started playing right after this worlds. I remember my fellow seniors playing the deck after Worlds but it wasn’t as strong.
Your spoiling us rotten as of late with these uploads man, cheers! Do you have a folder of favourite cards? I have one where they aren't necessarily good in game but the cards are really stunning or I find them amusing, they are a character I like or the artwork is something special, a few in mine are: Pheromosa GX 140/156, Gloom 198/197, Roselia LV.31 DPB # 367, Keldeo GG07/GG70, I like the knitted ones too. I am more of a player than card collector, but these and a bunch more for me were folder worthy.
You tellin me my favorite legendary pokemon from my childhood Groudon dominated the TCG while I was growing up? Thats awesome Blaziken is even my favorite pokemon period like dang if only I wasn't 6 years old at the time LOL
As a person who loves Blaziken, Gardevoir, Groudon, Rayquaza, Manetric, Steven, Maxie, with gen 3 being my favourite region, this format would have been sick to play in, too bad I was too busy not being born yet 😂
You know, I always watch these old deck videos wondering if someday someone will rediscover how amazing Koga's Zubat + Koga's Ninja Trick was... Had some minor tournament wins with a deck using that combination, but apparently this was never meta or maybe nobody thought of brining it to bigger tournaments. If a match up of Koga's Zubat and that Garde EX existed, Zubat would smoke it xD
@@BurtsPTCG The deck was amazingly fast and consistent, while denying prizes like crazy. And the opponents wondering what "Koga's Golbat" did were priceless (wasn't even in the deck).
I can't believe they thought it was okay to print a 100 HP one-prize basic Pokemon! Groudon is ridiculously strong. 2004 is my favorite format ❤️ If you want to watch modern gameplay of this format, my channel has VODs of a 44 player online tournament that was played last year! Spoiler: Magma and Blaziken are still really, really strong!
@@BurtsPTCG That deck won Worlds by a surprise. Nobody saw that coming. Internet didn't exist back then, at that time, you have no idea what's the best decl on that day. I believe it was won by a Japanese player. It even became a Worlds deck promo.
@mattabrams3841 it seemed pretty small to me for a long time since I have seen like 5 people besides me in real life play it but I guess it's just really small in my country

🤣🤣 Would of been icing on the cake :p
There was team magma's hideout.
Rare candy was such a hard card to come by at this time. Especially if you were a child. It’s crazy to think about.
That's so funny 🤣

Aww i never thought of that good spot! 🤣🙌

Yeah dunsparce was in the script but took it out cause didn't wanna lore dump even more before the action but u are so right 🙏

Thank you so much! Appreciate your support! 🙌 I don't have a folder for the but definitely some cards spring to mind 🙌

It really did! Damn 04 definitely sounds like your ideal metagame then :p

"You could play machamp or quad muk ex" sounds like we missed our ideal format eh? Haha
Yeah for sure! Knew u would like quad muk 😭🤣
Imagine this. With eternatus vmax
👀👀
Great video! Excellent quality
Thank you so much! Appreciate your support! 🙌
I thought the Team Magma deck won the first Worlds in 2004. Seems that deck is underpowered IMO
Underpowered really? 👀

Broken Deck!
I wonder if a deck will ever roll all age divisions ever again 👀
@@BurtsPTCG Probably, but not a surprise deck like last time. Internet being what it is now.
This is true tbf!
How are you always im the mood to make these amazing quality videos abiut a game that doesnt get played much?
The game is huge, what do you mean?
NAIC had I think 2600 TCG players. If you weren’t sure, a more polite comment might be “is the TCG still popular?”
