Why does she have to be "cleared"? The University needs to be investigated, not Lindsay! This is beyond the pale.
The fruits of institutionalized extremism.
Scott Wesley
Because there were claims made against her and they needed to investigate the allegations. Once she was found to have not done anything wrong, she was "cleared" of any wrongdoing.
He lied to her with intent, and should be fired.

Wilfred Laurier for having at least one person with the ability for indepedent thought. Too bad they felt so threatened the wanted to get rid of her.
Lara Jones That's exactly it.
No evidence that they tried to get rid of her. They just discussed the situation with her.
Lone Wolf Speculation. The recording of the meeting showed no threat to fire her. Someone complained informally, they investigated, they found she was well-iunformed and teaching well, they found that the complaint had no merit and that she did nothing wrong, and agreed that it was reasonable for her to accept "they"as a singular pronoun for transgendered people.
welcome to Canada 1984.

Too bad she will probably never teach now. Especially since education on all levels besides some private or religious schools is controlled by Marxist idealogues.
Good on the CBC for covering this fairly neutrally, and not disabling rating/comments.
The story is still young ... won't be long before the hate groups arrive ...
CBC was stuck because the recording got out into the wild before they could recontextualise it. Popular opinion was so lopsided in Shepherd's favour there was no way the CBC to spin an alternate narrative to smear her.
Every once in a while the truth wins. The CBC needs to do a better job to stop that.

Brainwashing starts at colleges nowadays
Refreshing just to hear her say it.
@@sergiofernandez4566 Unfortunately it starts way before colleges (oh, excuse me, universities - so laughable since being a University actually used to mean something). Colleges are now just the final stage of the indoctrination. It then takes years of being in the real world, having to actually work for a living and paying taxes for those with still functioning brains to understand that what they were taught in college is total hogwash. Then and only then can they begin to think for themselves.
@@mrb518 Yes, you are right, in fact here on Spain in many high schools the degree of ideological content is quite high but some people think that it is so blatant now that it will get the opposite goal as a reaction. That's why she is so dangerous to them and their ideals. If people think for themselves they no longer need the x-left to tell them what to think. They reacted so vehemently to her precisely because she is a threat to them.
Lindsay Shepherd is a hero of intellectualism.
She's also the hero of cover your arse.

Maybe we should be a little tougher on the rest of the divided populace to be less biased. But she’s no intellectual. She just caught her own victimization on camera. Amazing
The two professors and the person from the "gender violence equity office" and the staff from the Rainbow Center should be fired. All 4 have no reason to keep their jobs. They conspired to lie and bullied and lied and bullied some more. Tenure does not protect them from this level of deception. They also claimed there was "transphobic" violence. This should be investigated and if there was none--which is a pretty safe bet. The Center should be closed down. They deserve no money.
One of them has tenure.
Tenure does not protect one from lying. They calling a meeting with the intention to bully a student. All 3 of them lied more than once in the meeting. The clearly planned it ahead of time. 2 Profs and 1 staff conspiring against a grad student? They need to go. People with tenure get fired. Academic freedom does not cover abusive behavior or lies.

You know, I mean, just how far out of line was Rambukana? Really. Like, disciplinary-wise.
He was acting like a cop abusing his power. He claimed to have the force of -- hell, not just college guidelines, but the law, in essentially detaining Lindsay and putting her through this Kafka-esque show trial. He should be punished for that. He didn't just call her over and say "Let's have a meeting about this thing I heard about in the class." He framed it as an official procedure pertaining to a legal issue -- about something universities are legally liable for these days in Canada. He just made that up, the same as a cop making up evidence for a crime. Yes, he should face some serious punishment from the school.
Ahnootha Luhva If doing what he did doesn't get you fired I can see why colleges are capable of brainwashing kids so consistently.
He should be fired and never allowed to teach again.
Ahnootha Luhva I'm looking for his termination, personally. Why does he still have a job?
Ahnootha respectfully disagree. We don't know how he requested for her to attend. He was appropriately attended by a policy interpreter and a junior academic. Their concerns were equally her fellow students welfare and her own development. No sanction other than further supervision was discussed at the meeting. It was understood that this could be upsetting for Lindsay. They attempted to concentrate on the need for academic soundness. It was actually Lindsay who returned again and again to treating it as an accusation. Inference of Transphobia. No staff member alleged that. Excess of the law requiring care, neglectful to that extent , possibly.
Bruce -- Rambukanna directly invoked both Canadian law and university procedure in the show trial he appears to have personally produced. He wasn't following university procedure -- he wasn't acting on a formal complaint and it's unclear what he was acting on. But he did imply he was invoking procedure by keeping the "complaint" confidential. Instead of sharing his concerns with her one-on-one he conducted a show trial invoking university procedure _exactly as you describe._ He was abusing his power. Period.
This is infuriating, the POS has the audacity to bring another person to tears over made up complaints.
It's hypocritical in the extreme to claim that Lyndsay's actions were harming other people (when they weren't) while lying in order to deliberately harm her and her career. Sure, minorities might need some protection at times, but the majority need protection from theses hideous ideologues and their pernicious tentacles _all_ of the time. I mean, don't forget that Marxist university professors are sending wave after wave of brain-washed ideologues just like themselves, i.e. their ideological clones, out into mainstream society where they will be insidiously spreading their warped values to all and sundry. Thankfully people like Jordan B Peterson and Ben Shapiro are working hard to reverse the trend, to provide an antidote by reasoned intellectual debate, but they won't stop some gullible people sucking it up like a sponge.
Craig Hossack what's infuriating is this woman cried. He's condescending, I understand this is upsetting. I wish I were her boyfriend, I'd show this bully what's upsetting.
Lies all Lies.

a conversation can be recorded if the other party consents or knows the audio is being used, but it has to be an 'informed consent'. That is, just an obscure sign somewhere on a wall is not enough. It has to be deliberately explained and to what extent.
Universities, as centres of higher learning, should always, not just allow, but encourage a multiplicity of views to be examined and debated. I like when Lindsay Shepherd said I want to teach the students HOW to think, not what to think. I'm sympathetic to the LGBTQ community, but when they stifle debate, insist that their views not be questioned, and generally act like neo-fascists on campus, then something has gone awry.
Ottee2 Just another side of the oppressionist regime.
Should they encourage Al Qaida operatives, Stalinists, flat-earthers, Holocaust deniers, and creationists to freely spread their views in the classroom? The very nature of these groups is to stifle legitimate debate. Part of the role of Universities is to keep out the garbage that has long been disproved.
LGBT groups don't want equality, they want to be protected, elevated and shifted into power above all criticism.
Lilith Physics teaching is more about practical quantitative problem solving that you'll be able to apply in the real world. Ptolemaic cosmology would be a waste of time to most physics students because they have bridges to build, satellites to launch, and computers to design. That's precisely my point. When an idea is wrong or irrelevant, you don't present it as equal to an idea that is correct; you present it as wrong or, better yet, ignore it if you can. As for real counterarguments to LGBT identity politics, they are overshadowed by stupidity surrounding pronouns and bathrooms.
Guy Souriandt who gets to decide what is "the garbage that has been disproved"? If there are people that are buying in to it then we absolutely must be encouraging open and fruitful discourse so that misconceptions can be evaluated in the light of rationality. It is this out of hand, dismissive attitude of the left that fuels folks like your new friend Lone Wolf (whom I suspect is a Russian troll tbh). All of these topics that are so often sneered at by "those that know best" need to be made safe to be discussed with out acrimony or derision. The factions of our society need to realize once again that we are all part of the same family and learn how to have healthy and productive discourse once again. We need to stop talking at each other and start talking with each other once again.

This (inquisition) is an indicator of what you can expect in the Social Justice Tribunals which is why Jordan Peterson is warning about the danger.
The young lady was very forgiving considering what was done to her. My concern is that her nature in this regard will allow those who perpetrated this injustice against her to walk away unpunished and will remain in a position to do this to others as well. Agreed, but I cringed a little when you said she has a bright future. It's patronizing and Ive seen too many good people chewed up by the political ideologues driving this issue.
How is it patronizing? Her skills are obvious, which predicts a bright future, despite the state of current politics.
That's a good question. I guess it comes from the context where I've seen it used. I've usually seen it used in movies where someone in power (older, position of authority) spouts their opinion to a person without it (younger subordinate) becaue he likes him or her. I've never actually heard someone use this expression other than in the media, so it just seems odd and out of place.
There are rumors the PCs are trying to recruit her as a candidate for the 2019 election to win back the Kitchener-Waterloo riding they lost in the 2015 election. It is currently held by Liberal House Leader and Minister for Small Business and Tourism - Bardish Chaggar
She seems more Liberal than Conservative, but she'd be chewed up by politics either way. Party politics is about raising money for the party from wealthy donors, not debating political ideas.

Enforcing ideological conformity is not a tactic: it's an objective. Using recording devices to spy on people without their knowledge or consent as an unethical tactic. It's a perfectly valid equivalence. So the objective is different, but the tactics are just as underhanded.

Of course he has to be fired, or at the very least told in no uncertain terms that he will never obtain tenure at that university."
The university's own investigation showed that ZERO complaints were registered, so in effect, he fabricated the who narrative in his mind and blatantly lied to his own T.A. about it. One of two things has to be true. Either the university is at fault. or the professor is at fault. If its the uni, then they open themselves to a lawsuit. If its the professor, then he has be disposed of.
Sounds like every single person involved in this mess should have been fired on the spot. There is no excuse for this to have happened, someone thought lying about a complaint was a good idea and someone approved of creating this false inquisition and several people participated in it willingly.

Welcome to The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics of Canada.
Starscream91 - "Oh, I KNEW it!!"
Have you never spoken those words? Did you actually "know" it based on factual evidence, or were you using a figure of speech that meant you strongly suspected it based on past behaviours? Be honest, now.......
It's amazing how quickly a lawsuit can bring out the damage control.....
So glad I finished University when speech was free and we didn't have thought police.
Societal Goals for 2018: We learn to distinguish _discussing_ an idea from _endorsing_ that idea.
Seems a prerequisite for a teacher at any level.
Cut the funding for universities!
It think the scalpel needs to be wielded carefully. Certainly there's been bloat in administrators. Several of the humanities departments - most anything calling itself 'studies'- have become fortresses of toxicity. Too many professors think it's their role to be social activists on the public purse and radicalise young minds.
That being said, there are many fine professors who genuinely care and want their students to thrive. I think imprecise cuts would be used by the ideologically driven to purge the good and sane ones. Unis would be even worse off.
Rather than look solely at diversity of skin colour, gender identity, and sexual orientation, every humanities department ought to be mandated to have diversity of opinion. And any professors advocating suppression of speech liberties ought to be cautioned and, if they persist, tossed.
TheWolfsan - I've got a PhD in Chemical Engineering obtained in the Dark Ages of the 1980s. Hard sciences, math, engineering, programming are particularly amenable to being taught via MOOC and other computer aided techniques. In addition, since there can be fairly direct connection between the benefits of this education and its application, governmental funding of this could be eliminated, with a modest adjustment to labor laws regarding indentured servitude. I don't know about Canada, but in the USA the government uses this technique via programs like ROTC. Currently, this wouldn't work for private companies, and in any case it is pushed out of the marketplace by government subsidizes to undergraduate education. When getting my Masters degree and PhD, the cost of my education was financed via research grants. Cut out funding and cut out immigration and you will end up getting the right amount of tertiary education in Canada.
Sorry. You're not going to get lab and research experience you need in a modern setting online.
Guy Souriandt - good point. How much of the course work falls into this type of teaching in a modern undergraduate curriculum? Back when I was in school, I had labs a couple of hours a week for chemistry, physics, unit operations. It was about 20% of the time I think. There is probably a greater research component in most schools now, than when I was in this.
Cut the funding for the CBC!
Hahaha 😆 this TA is calling out the lies of that prof. He should be investigated. Well done, Lindsay stand up for university freedoms.
lmao this was my class and she got in trouble for showing that video to my tutorial
What was the class about?
LionessProwess it was just a first year comm studies intro class and she was my tutorial leader
Well done, Lindsay!
The university acted in a most despicable manner
8:10 "I dont think that its my role to tell them what to think. I just want to teach them how to think" I guess that is the true problem what they have with that, by the way beautiful lady! Mass media, education system, politics the whole system works on telling the people WHAT to think instead of how!
Thank you Carole MacNeil for a wonderful interview. CBC News is the best.
Edit: if Lindsay Shepherd is right, and it's a "clique-y faculty," the whole faculty needs to be fired outright. If that means shutting down entire departments, shut them down as a warning to any other publicly funded institution to dare violate anyone's human rights. You do not have the right to "not be offended." You do not have the right to education. These are privileges. The right to speak ones mind freely is not a privilege. It is a right. It is something you have unless you are oppressed. If you are completely alone, there's no one there to educate you or protect you in any way, but there's also no one there to oppress you and tell you what you can and can not say. That is why the right to free speech trumps all these privileges that Social Justice Warriors declare to be "rights". Calling something a rights doesn't make it a right.
Rambukkana and Pimlott should both be fired immediately. As for Adria Joel, the puppet master and head bully leading this abuse, should be criminally charged for her abuse of power and abuse of those under her care and charge. WLU should be the subject of a Federal Criminal Investigation. It is publicly funded, and therefore, WLU and ALL publicly funded institutions MUST be held to account PUBLICLY! Deborah Maclatchy should not be allowed to keep ANY reports on ANY investigations into this matter from the public.
It's not just Laurier, though. The humanities are overwhelmingly rotten. If you tried to replace them, you'd get more just like them.
I believe that Andrew Scheer had defunding universities which don't support free speech as part of his platform to become party leader.
McCarthyism in the current year.
McCarthy was trying to stop this BS....
You think I'm talking about communism? LOL.
Looks like McCarthy was on to something
McCarthy's spirit needs to return in full force and claim his rightful place in the pantheon of National Patriots
The TV Show called "The McCarthys" sucked 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
complaints are confidential because there were no complaint ... a classic
Rambukkake is a bad seed
Here are my problems with with this: 1. Peterson's views have nothing to do with transphobia, hatred or violence. He simply says, in a free society people shouldn't be forced to use certain words on the basis of not using them would hurt the feelings of certain groups. That's just nonsense, and even Lindsay Shepherd seems to be on the fence in this issue. 2. The university seems to put the emphasis on "well, there were no complaints, so the meeting shouldn't have even taken place". Well, what if there was a complaint? What if there was a left-wing activist sitting in Shepherd's class, and they did file a complaint against her, because they felt like they were harrassed? Would then all this inquisition be justified?
To be accurate, Shepherd is on the record as disagreeing entirely with Peterson. If you listen to the whole audio of her meeting with her supervisor, she makes that ;point emphatically, In fact, she was teaching that "they" is a grammatically correct way of replacing "she" or "he" in academic writing. She showed the video as an interesting way of illustrating that the issue is controversial. I don' think an LGBT person would have complained. I think she may have been more likely to be harassed by Peterson supporters given her positioning in class. They tend to mock Sheppard's stand with all sort of aggressive name-calling.
The university is just covering their butt from the backlash they are experiencing publically. As Lindsay pointed out there’s inconsistencies in the statement and no actual change in policy (there’s still a task force, etc.)
@@soulscanner66 I'm pretty sure she gave another interview that stated she didn't really agree with compelled speech so in this instance, I believe it is more likely that she was called in front of this tribunal and then instantly panicked upon questioning and tried to distance herself as quickly as possible. It's just a dangerous, slippery slope because what happens when the tides change as they do often to in politics, and the next group comes along and demands to be called by some pronoun the trans community feels is offensive?
@@Bredaxe I think your making things up to confrim your bias. She's very lucid in her explanation, and its clear what she believes. There's very little room diversity and on the alt-right these days. You're either a good foot soldier for the tribe or not.
@@soulscanner66 Well looks like she had more of an open mind than she lead on because she's definitely changed direction.

CBC is really unprofessional.
she thinks and speaks clearly and concisely. Respect.
they can't stand when someone doesn't think of something the way they do. disgusting.
"The University earns a D for its policies. There isn't a clearly stated commitment to free speech. The university has an anti-disruption policy which prohibits students (and other people) from blocking, obstructing, disrupting or interrupting speech (e.g. events, displays) on campus. The University has at least one speech code. The university provides funding and other resources to groups, departments, committees, commissions or other bodies that engage in ideological advocacy. The University earns an F for its practices. The University recently failed to use its security to prevent the disruption of a student group's display on campus, and worked with student union officials to prevent further displays from taking place."

So being "right wing" is automatically a bad thing on a par with trans-phobia?
If you only have a left wing, it's going to be a rough flight
5:25 lol
Welcome to the Jordan Peterson club.
It is Dr. Rambukkana that should be publicly ushered out the door.
She’s become exactly what Laurier tried to stop. An icon for freedom of speech and freedom of thought. They’ve , in essence, created a monster.
Another Canadian Conservative is born! trudashian didn't defend her, neither did the trudashian party. It was the centre-right that stood up for her!
It's a big-tent party!
She actually was teasching that "'they'' is an acceptable way to refer to a transgendered individual. Hardly a Conservative position.
Guy Souriandt originally, yes. When she was on the receiving end of this new liberal way of thinking it's a great way of getting red piled. In some of her newer interviews ( not with mainstream media) seems she's going centrist.
Wilfrid Laurier is very fortunate to have such a well-grounded, balanced teaching assistant.
They do not seem to think so themselves
I thought the inquisition had finished?
This smacks of a Gestapo interrogation !
"It is one or multiple students who are concerned about..." -- straight out of "1984".
Why don't Canadians have Freedom of Speech written into law?
Maria Shicklgruber Freedom of Speech is nominally a constitutional right, but its application has been tempered by Beverley McLachlin (the former Chief Justice of Canada).
Paul No. It's tempered by other rights. You are not allowed to use free speech to cause violence, for example.
Guy Souriandt You are correct. My point is that Beverley McLachlin has used her position to advance the leftist agenda by crafting opinions in such a way that rights favourable to the left wing could trump rights favourable to the right wing. Until December 15, 2017, she was the de facto Queen of Canada.
In the Socialist Republic of Canada, Individuals have no actual rights, only Identity Groups have rights.
In Canada, don't dare to speak your mind, don't dare to defend yourself : jail and fines await you.
Substine abstine, ad mare usque ad mare.
I didn't realise that a Canadian university actively limited the range of ideas that student's are exposed to.
I am impressed with the way the CBC conducted this interview. This would never happen in the US MSM. The CBC is at least playing the part of objective journalists rather than promoters of an agenda.
Yes the interview was very fair and nice. Would be great to see more of the kind.
