@Leeja, question at 6:27 Because the brain stem is located in the back of the head. There’s critical structures such as the respiratory center and control of blood pressure and heartbeat. If that gets smashed in, you’re done. Therefore injuries to the skull base tend to be particularly lethal. That actually CAN be a one-hit insta death, but usually people get knocked out cold and then succumb to brain haemorrhages later. Naturally that can occur with a delay after the fall over the banister too, depending what exactly got injured. The blood pooling around his head in that scene could’ve been from some bruise. You can bleed like a pig from those, esp. if you’re on blood thinners. While you can definitely die from such a fall over the banister, you don’t necessarily have to. Probably Sam suffered a mild concussion, which made him pass out briefly, but then recovered. Symptoms can also be delayed so at that point he still had his wits together but might’ve become confused, dizzy, nauseous etc. later if he survived. That he assaulted Rebecca first thing indicates he has a recollection of the immediately preceding events after the fall. It’s obviously a Hollywood trope for drama and flow that people always die conveniently at the most dramatic moment and/or the villain gets back up after a seemingly lethal attack to assault one of the supporting characters, (albeit yes, that actually CAN happen), and typically without all the gross, dirty, undignified and heartwrenching stuff that goes along with the processes of dying and decay. (CW: the rest of this paragraph may be disturbing and disgusting to some.) Like you hardly ever see them pee, poop or vomit over themselves or that men get erections and ejaculate while being hanged (yep, that’s a thing), the skin of people who died from hypoxia isn‘t even slightly cyanotic and generally many bodies just look pristine and crudely painted white rather than like death pallor (or not even that, just an actor lying around, not seldom twitching or visibly breathing even 😂), no livor mortis (reddish-purple stains from blood settling down), no rigor, tons of very unrealistic, anatomically inaccurate injuries that don’t fit the course of events, no decay whatsoever after SEVERAL DAYS etc. etc. Death is typically portrayed very inaccurately and heavily censored. It’s like with the unrealistic legal stuff (surprise evidence etc.) Good for show, but not how RL works. Besides, it’s similar for strangulation. Othello (the play, not the namesake protagonist) got bashed a lot because Desdemona comes to and continues to plead for her life at one point before Othello finishes her off, but that’s actually entirely realistic and happens pretty often because lots of people (thankfully) don’t know how to strangle properly. Or maybe rather unfortunately, because it intensifies and prolongs the suffering of their victims greatly while their ability to utilise this delay for fighting back and/or fleeing is oftentimes rather limited. And even if they get away, often they’ll have suffered brain damage already. Something you almost never see in the movies though. They’ll be hoarse and cough a bit, if anything, and then be fine almost immediately. Not how strangulation works in RL. Said HTGAWM scene is guilty of that too. Oh and don’t get me started on how almost nobody ever has PTSD after such events, or even if, the severity and impact on life is massively downplayed or fixed with a little chitchat over a glass of wine or a bubble bath (very much NOT how PTSD works) and most movie characters don’t even need that little to calm down (if they’re even upset for more than 10s) and just continue life as usual. That’s something this series actually did right for a change (although technically that’s too soon for the diagnostic criteria of PTSD, but it’s a much more accurate portrayal of the common acute stress reaction people have after experiencing something horrific).
I looooooove your comments on this series As someone that loves shows about law and crime, your channel gives everything i need. Sorry, i know you said it on a video before, where are your glasses from?

The only way to knock someone out is to hit them in the jaw. Just to reiterate if you hit someone anywhere in the head with a solid object (except the jaw) they are probably dead as a result. "Why does falling down the stairs not kill him but being hit on the head does?" The trophy is probably brass which is pretty hard, at to that the fact he was already hurt from the stairs and wes was using force to hit the back of his head. Also it looked to me like Sam was still alive for a few seconds after wes hit him, so what most likely happened is he gained a severe cerebral hemorrhage and died not long after, from blood loss from the brain.
