  • In this Morelia Minutes I filmed episode 3 of my Habituating Baby Snakes series featuring Spock and Number One, two Morelia bredli. They were produced by Owen McIntyre at Rogue Reptiles and are out of his Lazik line female Raven and by a stonewashed male named Raptor, owned by Eric Burke of EB Morelia. In this episode I discuss habituation and show an example of how I’m trying to passively habituate the snakes to my presence, allowing them as much choice and control as is safe. Filmed in early November 2019.

My approach is similar with young snakes to be in thier presence but to interact by touching some of the things around them and getting them used to me actually entering their space. l find they very quickly see me and my hand as not a threat to them at all.

What would you recommend for snakes that immediately dart from their tub?

Where are they darting to? What’s they’re behavior once they’re out? I would likely put them into an enclosure that they can see out of and that is potentially larger depending on why I think they’re darting out.
