Updates to NDI can impact everyone in the production space. When it comes to digital video, NDI is the glue that lets different vendor products interoperate, makes cloud-based productions possible, and provides a level of flexibility in our workflows that is - simply put - transformative.
Last week, NDI 5.5 was released into production. While not as groundbreaking as NDI 5, it is a welcome update that further optimizes performance, provides enhancements to some existing NDI tools, and introduces a new Router utility that is definitely the highlight of this release.
On today’s show, we will go over the key enhancements and new capabilities found in NDI 5.5 and discuss a few use-cases they now enable.
We will also be staying Live after the show to answer any questions and talk with any callers.

Lets be honest the number one new feature of 5.5 is: Registration and Launcher streamlined. The number of times I had to register just to get a download link....

Hi Josh - I really like the NDI Router. I think it may be a 'baby step' by NewTek/NDI toward creating a centrally managed NDI framework at some future point. Thanks!

John, what a great show!! I didn't know about NDI Router and what a game changer it is! Question: do you use Vmix to output your NDI signals to Blackmagic SDI output? I am curious how you move the NDI signals out of NDI and into the SDI/HDMI domain. Thx!!

Hi Randall - For the most part, everything in our studio is IP based. We use NDI for video and Dante for audio. Anything outside the IP domain is converted using BirdDog Flex converters (eg our cameras put out 4K HDMI which we convert to NDI using a Flex)

My comments on Cameo's usefulness with NDI might have a caveat, grr... as I was setting some stuff up today with it and can't get my NDI feeds to appear in Ppt now - they are just black - but it might be finger trouble - I'm setting up a new machine / build. Will keep you posted on it.

Ok, so it seems virtual cams don't provide a visible feed in the Cameo object in this build of Ppt - but I swear I had it going a few weeks back, so hmm. Anyway, I did a loop back circuit where I took one of my un-used HDMI outputs and fed it into an Elgato Cam Link and then back into a USB port, causing the monitor to be a physical "webcam" and then directed my desired feed into Cameo onto that "monitor" - in my case using the "Fullscreen Projector" feature of OBS - and it loops back perfectly and comes into Cameo - so until MS fixes the virtual cam feed issue, that's a possible workaround. Thought you'd want to know.

Hi Mike - I know I'm replying a bit late, so my apologies. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with Cameo. Microsoft seems to change things all the time making it hard to depend on their software for production critical roles. That said, PowerPoint itself has become the standard in presentation software, so it is good we have multiple ways to integrate with it. Thanks!

If I had multiple devices I would like to add as NDI, what command do I use? Don't think the proper solution is to have multiple windows running the command for each device i desire......right? 🤔😐

You can add as many NDI sources to Bridge as it can support processing/network wise. NDI Router can also take multiple sources that you can then switch between dynamically (like a mini-switcher). Apologies in advance if I am not understanding the context around your specific question.

    Help please
When a friend shares his screen all I see is a black screen with a qr code , it won't show me his screen no matter what window or display he chooses. When I share him my windos or display he is actually able to see my ndi :(

Does the QR code you are seeing link to NDI.TV? I would start by making sure you are both on the same version of NDI and see if that makes a difference.
