  • In this video I discuss the various designs of foam used in most boxing gloves today, along with some benefits and drawbacks of each. I also talk about how we build our layered foam that goes in our American made boxing gloves - the only domestically produced boxing gloves in the US.

    PLEASE NOTE: This video is very old and since most of the information doesn't apply to the way I've been making my foam the last couple years, I'm strongly considering taking the video down. However, there's some good general info in here that people may find useful, so I will probably keep it up for a while longer. However, please don't ask me any questions about these foams, at least in reference to 1v1 products, because they're no longer relevant at all. Thx - Jason

    Here's a tip for people on a budget and don't want to spend the money on 2 pairs of boxing gloves for when you want different density and protection. Use knuckle guards underneath your hand wraps to add more protection. It feels like a whole new glove.

    Hi, Jason. That really helps with understanding padding. Which padding do you use for the ARK series?

    • @1v1FightGear
      @1v1FightGear  Год назад +1

      This video is pretty old, for the last couple years I've been using a 3 layer system for my US made PTE, and the ARK-1 is using the exact same foam setup as well (and the same stitching pattern).

    Hi! I'm doing a research about the foam used in boxing gloves for university. Is there any chance of telling us it's medium dencity? We easily found out it's high dencity foam but we cant really find the numbers

    • @1v1FightGear
      @1v1FightGear  8 месяцев назад

      For the primary foam, I have no idea about the density, it's a fairly dense latex foam.

    When companies make horse hair + foam gloves, how is it layered?

    • @joeygonzo
      @joeygonzo 6 лет назад

      The horse hair is under the foam by the knuckle area.

    • @cocobellaaa
      @cocobellaaa 6 лет назад +7

      Depends on the glove. Grant puts the foam on the outside and the horsehair on the inside, while Everlast puts the foam on the inside against the knuckles and the horsehair on the outside. We put our horsehair between 2 layers of foam, with a thicker, softer foam on the inside and firmer, thinner foam on the outside.

      No, that foam is what is typically used in your average $50-$70 glove. The closest thing to Winning is the last foam discussed (the black one). The only difference is that Winning does not use the inner soft foam piece you see in this video, and they do not use the cordura fabric infused with anti-fungal powder.

      Jason Neese thanks for the detailied reply. Personally I find the winning gloves foam to have excellent absorption on impact which other gloves just don't provide. I find the foam dissipates the force again so well.

      7-8 hours of sewing, 6 square feet of leather, and overheads - it adds up! But custom boxing gloves isn't a high volume item, it's a specialty item, for a special customer base. However, our Pro Trainer and Pro Trainer Elite lines sell for roughly half that price, and use our best tech and materials, they just aren't sewn to custom specs.
