It's like a time traveller from the 50s went to the future to our time and recorded everything on his own camera

This helps put actual 50's footage into context.

It says a lot about how our view of the past is shaped almost entirely by the media and technology used to capture it. When I grew up in the 80's, anything from the 40's and 50's looked ANCIENT to us because it was either in black and white or antiquated technicolor - however, in 2022, 30 years ago was just 1992 - so kids growing up NOW see 1992 vividly, so it doesn't seem as distant or alien to current experience. I often wonder how we would think about the 1940's and 1950's if the footage and films of the time were shot with the technology of today and if our sense of it would be more immediate, purely because of the media, itself.

It looks fairly modern even with the older camera. Just goes to show how different times are now.

The fidelity on well-lit close and medium shots is way better than I would have expected. I have to keep telling myself that this is actual film and not just a filter applied to a digital recording…

In the 1950's through 1970's it was hard to find any double-8 film other than Kodachrome, which was a high quality color transparency film. Now that it's become obsolete, all I can find is B&W. I no longer shoot 8mm because I lost all of my old 8mm gear a few moves ago.

The film photography project sells color double 8 film on their website and that includes the new ektachrome 100D reversal.

@@proudtobeautistic Thanks for sharing this. I've shot 8mm from my grandpas movie camera when I was a kid. Never thought I'd be able to use it! Still have his camera. Still like new.

@@avnostlga You're welcome I'm always happy to help a fellow film photographer/film enthusiast, yeah those old school 8mm movie cameras are built like tanks and built to last I have a Revere 88 camera that was manufactured in Chicago IL, in 1944 and it still works like a dream.

Was this filmed with the single lens one or the turret lens one?

Very interesting, but not nearly enough technical info here. I shot a few hundred Super 8mm movies from 1975 through 1988. As I recall, all that was available then (and to a lesser extent, now) was super 8 Kodak Kodachrome and Ektachrome color film, as well as Fuji. So, what film was this shot on? B&W standard 8mm film that was new old stock, that would work in your camera? Why not show the camera? --Also, why the (apparently) artificial aging lines/spots added for effect?

Hello, any chance I could connect with you via a business email or something? I have an old Kodak 8m Brownie camera and want to learn how to use it so desperately, and no online tutorials seem to assist my pea brain. Hoping you are still on here!

Hi there - I'm very much an amateur with Brownie cameras, but I can try my best to help you. Feel free to use the business email that's on this RUclips account.
