  • I joined a group of about 35 folks from the Alpine Club of Canada to explore the Remillard Range in the Selkirk Mountains (just west of the Rockies) this July. The Selkirk Mountains are a mountain range spanning the northern portion of the Idaho Panhandle, eastern Washington, and southeastern British Columbia which are part of a larger grouping of mountains, the Columbia Mountains.
Due to the remoteness of the Remillard Range, this group of peaks was one of the last in the Selkirks to be explored. The majority of the first ascent activity took place in the 1970s.
This area of the Selkirks includes many different flavours of rock, from solid limestone to marble to beautiful alpine granite. There are long ridges with expansive views in all directions. A nice part of the camp objectives included long, scenic loops from basecamp, involving fun ridge climbing, glacier travel, technical climbing, scrambling, and stream crossings.
Thanks to all the folks that made this trip spectacular.
The fellowship of the rope was strong on this journey.
Credit to Jon Smith, Sandy Stewart, and Katelyn Farquhar for a few of the photos and clips in this video.
In the words of Bob Plummer, the geologist that should be a RUclips sensation, it was: "Wow! Amazing! ....Magma!"
