tbh, the biggest brain teaser is how any of those 11 pieces were supposed to be birds.... Also, even though the puzzle itself might have been too simple for you, it was very rewarding as a viewer to actually be able to trust your progress. Usually the big twist means that you have to scrap all of your progress several times before you discover it

When she was ranking times one of the thumb nails had put dots for eyes and made them look more like birds
It looks like 5 of the pieces are symmetrical so that their placement is the same for either side. It might save time on these sorts of puzzles to identify flip-identical pieces so that you can minimize time spent on them. Even though it was a little unexpectedly “simple”, it was enjoyable to watch for sure.

It may not have had a tricky trick but I like the look of that one. You could mindlessly jiggle about with it and stumble on the solution easier than the other puzzles. Less brain teaser and more fidget toy? Eleven likes from me. 😊

Because this one seems deceptively easy at first glance, I think that it might make a good coffee table item. For when you have friends or relatives visiting for a few days.
It’s also one of those items that you find when staying at a holiday house or country cabin with no phone reception - as a kid, before mobile phones, I used to love finding the games cupboard in a holiday house or at a friends place when you were all inside for the evening without tv or anything else to do but read or play games or do puzzles together.
My sister was a puzzle bully, so I now much prefer to do puzzles by myself - don’t touch my puzzle lol.
One holiday my father and I spent hours together Working on a puzzle. We came back from a hike only to find that my mother (and older sister) had “moved” the puzzle from the table top.
We went looking for it and to our horror found that all of our hard work had been swept back into the puzzle box. I began to fall apart, but my dad said that we would start again and this time we would have all the knowledge that we’d learnt from before. So we started over, and I absolutely remember how my dad made absolutely sure that NO ONE moved that puzzle until we had finished it. Thankfully, everyone got the message and that puzzle didn’t leave that table until we had finished it together lol.
Looking back, I now realise that my dear old dad had done all the “sky” areas, and then helped me with the more colourful sections. It’s a really good memory. Thanks for sparking it for me 🙂🐿❤️🌈

It's amazing how puzzles with so few pieces can be so complicated.
I can’t tell exactly without measuring, but it looks like each piece is a perfect circle with each of the 3 nibs exactly at one of the 12 clock positions. If you stack the pieces, do the nibs line up vertically? If that’s true (or even close), then there’s a way to simplify labeling the pieces and spaces to make it easy to match them up without trial and error, using the same system chemists use to uniquely name similar molecules. So, if you number the 12 positions around the circle 1-12, you can identify each piece by a three number sequence that gives the relative positions of the nibs, the same way chemists do for ring (cyclo) molecules that have multiple branches. For example, the first piece you placed would be called 1,2,3 because it had 3 adjacent nibs, and that would be the same no matter how you rotated or flipped the piece over. A piece with 3 nibs equally spaced around the circle would be called 1,5,9 and one with 3 at right angles would be 1,4,7. The rule is to always number the positions around the circle so the positions with nibs have the lowest numbers possible while going in order around the circle from first to last. If you then name the black spaces the same way, it would be relatively easy to compare names and know which pieces can fit into which spaces without trial and error.

Since you can always rotate one nib into position 1, you only need two numbers!
I only do 1000 piece puzzles, but this 11 piece one is way harder! Love that you do these kind of puzzles to save me the brain ache
I think this puzzle didn't have any twist because it is a low difficulty puzzle. You wouldn't expect something so intricate in an easy puzzle, so it does make sense. If it had a twist it definitely wouldn't be expected to take only 15 minutes to complete.
Also, I can not see 11 birds at all lol I didn't really understand the name of this one, maybe they were just not creative that day?

Perhaps she wasn't sure if they were exactly symmetrical. One of them looks as if its beaks are at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock -- but are they placed exactly there?

1:29 That puzzle looks as if the solving process won't be a pleasant journey (with visible signs of progress), but will instead be a boring trawl through a space of possibilities none of which look any more promising than the rest. It's a matching-problem. Each piece fits some of the holes. Each hole accommodates some of the pieces. Finding a matching is a chore better suited to a computer program than to a real person.
I think you have to provide your own twist with this one (e.g., a blindfold challenge.) It really seems like an introduction to -- or a tutorial tool for -- brainteaser strategy. (On an incredibly tangential note, eleven is one of my very favorite numbers: November; first double-digit prime number; friendly for multiplication purposes)
I definitely think this one should be done before the Jigsaw 16. It’s a little too simplistic after figuring out that one.

I am on a serious binge watching streak of your videos. I watched at least eleven videos of yours in the last couple of days.
Trying all pieces in all spots is not the best idea. That's 2x 10 factorial =7257600 possible combinations. 😄

Presumably, you mean trying all permutations with all flips? But then you get 11!*2^11, i.e. 82 billion. Trying every piece in every spot requires just 2*11*11=242 tries (not counting attempts with different rotations).
@@landsgevaer You're correct, I reacted too quickly. 10! should be 11!. And had a brainfart with multiplying by 2 to account for the flips. Should be 2^11 instead of just 2, like you said. Your 2*11*11 tries won't be enough to give a solution without more work. It'll just show you a way to discard a lot of impossible potential solutions from the 11!*2^11. You might be able to deduce the (or a?) solution from that information.
@@nielsdegroot9138 The 242 tries will at least give you all the information you need to establish the solution (or all solutions).
The 82 billion tries will be the brute force approach: as if you were trying to solve a jigsaw by trying all positions and orientations of all pieces; but that is not how anybody does a jigsaw (a single 8-piece jigsaw would already take you a lifetime...).
But I guess that was your point.

I know that you acknowledged it but I don't think it's fair to criticize a puzzle they sold as being quite easy for being quite easy. It's like criticizing a children's hundred-piece jigsaw for being too easy.
That’s fair, though I think there’s a difference between being easy and being boring, especially compared to the other puzzles he’s come up with. But it’s fine if you disagree!
I have a 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle about famous people from ancient times to today’s well… it is hard enough to show the people because they’re so close to each other + the design and the color pattern to the jigsaw puzzle itself. The puzzle pieces are all different shapes and the locks. The brand of the jigsaw puzzle is SunsOut. I knew the puzzle would be too hard to the brain and the eyes are spinning out of control. Great work catching the concertration to the brain puzzles! I knew you can do it! Good luck to your next challenging jigsaw puzzle 🧩

I still enjoyed watching you solve the Bird 11 brainteaser even if it didn't have the characteristic Yuu Asaka twist. When you showed us the back I saw that the design is from January 1997, so maybe it's one of his first puzzles before he developed his style?
Hmm, maybe. But it also says May 2019 and a copyright date of 2020-2022. Maybe someone who’s more familiar with the Japanese puzzle scene can weigh in?
yeah, i can't help but think asaka phoned it in a bit on this one, 11 pieces with 11 holes and nothing unexpected about how the pieces fit in means it's such a small possibility space that the natural way to solve it really is just trial-and-error-ing every piece into every hole until they fit. maybe it'd be a little more interesting to try to look at the pieces and mentally figure out where they'd fit before actually attempting to place them, but because of the way it's structured the brute-force method is the simplest and the one most people are going to gravitate toward

This really doesn't appeal to me at all!! I hate puzzles where I end up trying every piece in every space, just to fit the last few in, and these eleven pieces are nothing but that😕 It's disappointing there's no twist as that's what makes these puzzles so clever usually

I agree with you. Talking seems to add time to your puzzles. Maybe time yourself with talking and again without talking to see how much of a difference there is. Love watching you work on puzzles. I work at senior living facilities and enjoy working on puzzles with the residents. It is very relaxing and gives me a chance to visit with them.

It's about as simple as a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. It's after all just a matching problem... so the only thing differing it from a jigsaw puzzle is the amount of pieces.
I think you did this the only way possible, trying each piece in each spot! This puzzle "eleven" does not look like it was fun to complete.

Since I am new to ,not only jigsaws but also brain teasers this one is most likely my speed. Eleven
I would still take it apart and see if the sudoku algorithm could be used to solve it. It seems like, unless they have more than one solution, the sudoku algorithm basically makes this whole family of puzzles effectively solved out of the box.
How would a sudoku algorithm help?
@@rosiefay7283 It's basically just like a sudoku, keep trying pieces and slots until you find one piece that only works for that slot.
@@rosiefay7283 Let's say you label the pieces 1 through 11, then you label the spaces A through K. If you test piece 1 in all the spaces and find it only possibly fits in spaces B, C and F, then you write that down. You do the same with all the pieces and check whether there are any spaces where only one piece fits, or if there are any pieces that only fit in one space.
In the event that 1 is the only piece that fits in space F, you can remove 1 and F from every other set of matches and reduce the number of possible solutions. If there is only one solution to the puzzle, then this process should solve it. If not, this is more akin to a brainteaser than a true puzzle because it would have multiple solutions.
next time it would be nice if you could add meters/cm etc.

Eleven. I wouldn't have worried if one piece could fit numerous places. Try numbering pieces by rows, dump pieces hiding numbers, and solve again. Then check if numbers are in same row position. Maybe there are several solutions.
Today me and my brother finally solved a 8000 pieces puzzle, it took us about 2 years and it was sooo hard, because it was mostly black, 0 missing parts :)
Yes, it appears that Eleven was not up to your standard expectation of devious content. That in of itself may have been the trick...that there wasn't a trick!
