  • The word complication is one that has many negative connotations as it typically represents a time of difficulty, however, in the world of watches, this word is an indicator of excellence.
In this video, we are going to be looking at complications of watches, what they are, the different types, and how they impact the price of a watch.

Hi Teddy, would love a video on how to use various watch bezels, like dive bezels, GMT bezels, tachymeter, slide rule bezel like on the navitimer, etc. I think many people buy watches with these and don't full appreciate or understand how they work (myself included).

One complication that isn’t as well known anymore (mostly cause when people see it they associate it with quartz) is the dead second complication where the second hand ticks every 60 seconds. Before the quartz crisis it was a very uncommon complication and desired to my understanding but now people look at it and think of quartz when they see the ticking

Hi Teddy, I have a question. What are your thoughts on the watch brand Filippo Loreti? They claim to a be a luxury watch but they cut out the middle men making them affordable. I check their online store and it seems that their watch's are decent to good quality (from looking at the descriptions and photos.) But I want an expert like you to judge their quality.

One thing that I think would be pretty cool is if a watch had a calendar for the 4 seasons. So it would show at what point in each season we are in. I don't know if that's possible for a watch, but I think it would be neat if you could look down and see that we're at the halfway point in summer, or approaching the end of winter, etc. But maybe I'm the only one who would think that was cool

My watch complication was with my Casio PRG-600-1JF. I wore it for an extended time during an outdoor excursion but then went back to my more luxury high-end once home. I went to put the Casio back on again several months later, trying to remember all of the settings. Owning a watch collection spanning many brands creates the moment where I put it back in the case and strapped on the Casio Duro with a BluShark NATO strap next to it. Very inexpensive, extremely reliable, not worried about dings, great James Bond NATO, and very UNCOMPLICATED. Complications sometimes lead to watch owner abuse. Watches get left in their case or box.

In general, very informative. I felt you zipped thru it too fast though. There is no race here, just alot of information that is made clearer by adding one more minute to the video. Also, the difference between a triple calendar/annual calendar and the perpetual is in not having to reset the watch date during the year. This was not made clear, and a little more explication of why this calculation is so hard to mechanically do would give some needed context to its expense.
