Who's the best Spider-Man movie villain?
Tie between Doc Ock and the Vulture. Also amazing video!
Andrew Garfield
Sony
For me, either Green Goblin or Doc Ock. Both are childhood classics and i still love them to this day.
@@EddiePhoenixArt God I would love to see Vincent Denofrio's Kingpin against Tom Holland's Spidey.
I have to admit, Vulture up there being Parker's girlfriend's dad was inspired. Probably the best movie twist in a while.
And the scene where he drives Peter to the prom and the traffic lights set the mood as they figure each other out. Gd. Best scene in the MCU.
I was so engrossed in the film I never even considered he was her dad. Genuinely shocked!
@@WubTheory Comparable to Captain America's elevator scene.
@@edithjarvisfriday EXACTLY!
Captain America: Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?
Adrian Toomes: Allows Liz to leave, and gives Peter "the dad talk."
Out of all the symbols that you discussed in the movie, one that you forgot was that of Toomb's namesake, the Vulture. Vultures are carrion-eaters, consuming dead animals, and picking their bones. This is very appropriate to what Adrian and his team are doing, cleaning up the wreckage left behind by the Chitauri and the Avengers... you could say that calling Adrian a vulture is not just about the look of his costume, but it's very much a statement about what he does, and who he is.
I think that's because it's so obvious it doesn't need being mentioned. It's not exactly a subtle metaphor.
In India people thought vultures evil bad luck so they killed them, almost wiped them out. Then they had a problem that dead carcasses of animals were laying around for a long time as the essential step in decomposition, breakdown by the vultures, wasn't happening. They tried many solutions even commissioning research from tech companies that looked into drones that would burrow into carcasses and implant bacteria.... basically a robot vulture. They finally outlawed killing vultures and reintroduced them.
“I’m sick of him treating me like a kid all the time,” Peter says as he jumps onto the bed, lol.
Honestly, I think that Keaton created the best Spiderman villain to date with his performance.
Ironic that the best Spider-Man villain was played by Batman!
@@jalabi99 spider-man and batman would be a fun fight
I love how this Peter is so obviously broke. I need that relatability
Yes but the Tobey fans would disagree
@@arandomguysshh8614tf you talking about?
That scene in the beginning where Toomes punches that guy is honestly one of my favorite scenes from the movie, because I would feel the same way in his position: betrayed, exploited, concerned about the well-being of my workers and their families, and angry enough to punch someone. It’s satisfying for me, because I’ve never actually punched someone in the face, but that certainly doesn’t keep me from wanting to in the heat of the moment.
Vulture was a great villain and one of the best in Marvel movies! Very charismatic, likable and also terrifying but still manages to be relatable. Hopefully Mysterio will be just as good.
Exactly, he's awesome. He van both be charming but also terrifying like in the car scene where he gives peter the "dad talk".
I think mysterio ia gonna be great as well.
Update post-Mysterio: I was not a fan of Mysterio but, like you, I loved the Vulture
Mysterio is really damn good.
with mysterio, i don't know, it's fine, but again making him a villian because of stark again it's repetitive, and he's motivation to me wasn't really strong as Adrian in homecoming
And Mysterio was as good , until now both spidey villains were the best among the MCU
that's hysterical, i never noticed the groceries
me neither! But I absolutely love that he complains about having ice cream when Peter leaves him there.
'Spider-Man: Homecoming' is one of if not the most relatable movie for me. After a certain life experience as a high school student, this movie made it into my top 10 favorite movies of all time because it's accurately relatable.
@@BlueToastGaming
Believe me. It's already very relatable now. It's my second favorite movie.
@@BlueToastGaming yea tobey dealt with rent issues and college issues cuz he was an adult, while Tom's deals with high school problems so idk why ppl keep comparing them.
I was your 69thlike
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie when it came out (I was never a Spidey fan), but you gave me a much deeper appreciation of it.
Homecoming was awesome!! This Spider-Man is in the top 2 for me.i loved how the villain wasn't another "over-buffed" and "overpowered" alien it brought things back home.
Ryan has been cast as Mr Fantastic for the MCU because he is really good at stretching
You think? I thought the time travel foreshadow was a bit of a stretch, but this is right in the text.
Honestly I never thought of the movie in the way that you explained and now it feels like such a heartbreaking story of people being forced into going down a dark path. Well done.
Of all your playlists, “What’s The Point?” is my pick for the best of the best. Gives me film school flashbacks.
The best spider-man movie villain was Captain America
José López lol 😂
The only way to really be cool is to follow the rules - Captain America, 2016
Peter Parker: *Palpatine impression*...Ironic
Been a little while since I was captivated by a take. This is some solid reasoning.
I love that you freely call this a video essay. What was the line? "Don't ever apologize for being the smartest one in the room." Or in this case, on RUclips. (and yes I know it's from the other Spider-Man movie...)
Fucking hell, Patrick’s cameo was pure genius
Really nice video, breaking down the specific meta-narratives in these stories is tough business but you guys handled it spectacularly, making them very clear in the video. Awesome job!
R.I.P. Brad
Another wonderful breakdown of the movie we MARVEL fans love and I do enjoy your ability to make the movies that you speak about more interesting on the SECOND, no THIRD no FOURTH time watching. THANK FOR SHARING YOUR insight in to the movies.
MCU writers are genius. The continued line of interwoven stories throughout time changes our perception of who should truly be considered a villain vs. hero. It can be argued that many of the heroes are in fact villains. Many of the villains are insanely justified in their actions.
But the true villain is Brad
Any body can be turned into a villain, all it takes is one bad day :P
No. I believe is something much more complicated than that. Bc spiderman took all the naysay and turned it into character growth(hero), while the vulture uses the naysay to feed his anger and resentment at the world(villain). It also could be the age that each of them faced the challenges.
Falling Down (1993)
Sir, this is wendys
This was a good breakdown, thanks a lot!
Such a masterpiece of writing of a movie!!!! Reaaaally incredible characters and interactions! Great video!
Your voice brings me comfort
The vulture's motivation was understandable... until he turned to outright violence and crime. One could argue taking the equipment was like him compensating himself for being screwed by the government breaching the contract. But selling it to criminals and robbing stuff with it, no. The people these crimes hurt never had anything to do with him being screwed by the government.
And yes I said gov't. Tony Stark had a role but only because the government set it up that he screw over Adrian. If there is a class struggle it is between the gov't suits and Adrian, not the "working class" vs. "the rich". Just my take on it. However I do agree you illustrated the points very well.
I mean look at many people who took to crime because of being pushed down. Also, arguably a lot of very wealthy people Are in government
Who do you think pays off the government to set it up that way?
Awesome video
Who TF is Brad?
It sucks that so far all of Peter Parker's MCU stories have been about him dealing with Tony Stark's messes. Tony ended up making good choices, but he never took full responsibility to heal the impact his earlier life had. He might have started doing good, but it never went to the roots of the bad he caused.
Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel that way.
its just an insult the fact that you not have over 1 million subs. Your videos are the best!
Grear great video
Well done.
Man this review hit!
Once again, Tony unbeknownst to him, ruins somebody else’s life.
Interesting parallel. Does Tony Stark ruin Adrian Toomes life? I disagree slightly. Toomes ruins his own life because (1) he *did* overextend himself, and (2) he chose revenge via crime instead of trying to bounce back through legit means. Of course, Stark Industries should have been more lenient with Toomes as a contractor. But that was his employees' doing, not necessarily Tony's. Also, it's not quite unknowingly. Tony, genius engineer and fighter of terrorists who plagiarize his weapons, likely anticipated scavengers would be among the Chitauri ruins. Perhaps Tony was unaware of Adrian. I sensed Tony was working with the government via S.H.I.E.L.D. to prevent the tech from falling into the wrong hands -which Toomes eventually proved to be.
The two MCU Spidey films are so far some of the more layered MCU films. But I don't think people see it because their tone is bouncy and fun and fanboys are too hung up on gatekeeping what Spider-Man is to actually engage on a deeper level.
Idk what you’re even talking about
By far my favorite mcu villain
although spider-man 2 is my favorite spider-man film, spider-man homecoming comes at a close second.
Tony is selling the tower because the Avengers have broken up after the events of Civil War and it's a reminder of everything that he's lost with the disintegration of the team.
The Avengers had already moved to the up state facility by the end of Age of Ultron.
when it's your first time here and all you wonder is what did brad do lol
I had never thought about this, but Spider-Man foes have a similarity: Talented men (or at least ambitious) who become failures before breaking bad.
Norman lost his government contract
Doc Ock's experiment was a public failure
Sandman wanted to provide for his kid, but lost his family
Eddie is exposed as a fraud and is disgraced
Lizard fails time and again to regrow his arm
Elektro has the plans for his invention stolen by Osorp
Mysterio had his technology taken by Stark (and renamed Barf)
I mean it's not like they were exactly subtle about that being the theme
I love Homecoming. But the lack of a city swing scene, the kind of mediocre final fight, and the reliance on Tony Stark in this Peter Parker’s overall narrative are major points of criticism for me.
I remember when the valture started out his visual anti crime spree as the dc gothum bat ...
This was great. And the "I hate Brad" was hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
This channel is way better than CBR and ScreenRant
Nailed it.
Honestly thought this was obvious
Same here
I believe it’s Tony Stark acting ooc by not compensating him, the US gov acting ooc and out of law by not respecting the contract, and the vulture not stirring up a PR nightmare to get that easy dough without having to commit a crime. It is class warfare technically. But it’s a bit contrived.
LOL, how naïve are you?
The issue with the message the film is conveying is it doesn't really come to a head in any real way. Peter should confront and call out Stark on his hypocrisy but instead he gets talked down to by the super rich elite. It muddles the message and ruins the pay off.
So, the message seems to be 'listen to your betters, do as your told and maybe you'll get lucky'.
@@frogoat I agree, but the thing is, it's an MCU film. the message sometimes has to take a back seat in service of the characters. Peter confronting Stark at the end would've been out of character for him at that point in the story IMO. The thing about the MCU is we get to follow there characters journeys across multiple films so i think making those kinds of calls is okay.
@@EvanSawyer4 Yet here we are, 4 MCU films later and nothing has changed in that respect.
@@EvanSawyer4 Peter calling out Stark would have made sense in the films climax, as it stands nothing really happens. Pete turns down his wealthy sugar daddy's suit, only to get it back anyway at the conclusion, Stark learns nothing and Toomes gets jail. Either the themes come to a head and pay off or they don't. Here, they didn't.
Wait wait what??! Tony being a billionaire is his problem?. I guess nobody should be a genius then. Tony got bashed throughout his run in the mcu because of his shit past. But that was in the past , tony was changed by the time homecoming came around. He was a hero. A clear adult who understands the mistakes he has done.
Screencrush shines eyes
Ahhh i love the análisis but i think is more like class strugle than class warfare.
I am a simple man
I see *breaking bad* ,I click
We were torn. Is it okay to make a Spider-Man video without Spider-man on the thumbnail? We may swap out, depending on how it does. Thanks for the input.
@@ScreenCrush yaa. It was a good video.... Just a bit misleading thumbnail...
Golden Carrot Studios honestly that is the reason I clicked
Tony Stark in Civil War: You're not Spiderman in that onesie.
Tony Stark in Homecoming: If you can't be Spiderman without the suit you don't deserve it.
Class warfare? What the-
I just like Ned....
7:45 actually the truck scene happened besfore the washington monument scene.
Poor brad..
I was so confused by adrian but then it clicked
If you're here for Heisenberg, go to 4:20 of course 😏
oh no Brad! lol
8:28 actually the final battle takes place on coney island.
I will have to say the mysterio is probably my favorite and goblin in tied
Honestly Adrian is a top 3 Spider-Man villain
Lol what did brad do??
*Marty McFly voice* What in the hell is Class Warfare?
Working class vs ruling class
Working class vs ruling class
Your audio is incredibly quiet compared to other videos or even certain clips from the movie within your own video.
Michael Keaton was great in this movie, but I'm still choked that Colm Feore was picked for the part. He would have been perfect.
Colm Feore was in Thor already
Don't hate Brad, Ryan. 🤣
cue music: Forever young 🎶
Don't you think.....
Your reading into
This movie,
a bit to much?
He got the theme right. But that metaphors and all is just.... Yeah too much. Then again this is the thing people do for bvs.
Can someone show this to Martin Scorcese?
Superhero movies aren't cinema. One of the most pretentious things ever said.
Ikr these movies have captivated the world. Isn't that the whole point of Cinema?
Homecoming is so much better than far from home
Dr. Octopus
Patrick?
who's Brad
what’s with the VOLUME differences?
peter gave tony more sarcastic comments to say to the bad guys. i highly doubt he'll watch spongebob just for fun
This video feels very inspired. I enjoyed watching it.
This morning I tried to find it again by looking through my RUclips history. Even though it was among the last ~10 videos I watched, I struggled because the title doesn't seem to match the content. "Why is smarter than you think" feels like an overused clickbait title that's not worth watching. I was a little disgusted at myself for clicking on the video.
I noticed that this video has relatively few views compared to some of your other content - despite being super interesting and high quality. Maybe you'd reach a wider audience by retroactively changing the title and thumbnail to something like "What Spiderman Homecoming says about class warfare". But maybe a bit catchier than that. :)
willem: if you didn't see the theme explained by ScreenCrush, You kinda watched movie WRONG !
9:42
I thought that was obvious.
Brad is gonna come up with a super-insightful angle on Homecoming that you never thought of. Little brat.
Who the heck is Brad?!
Who is Brad?
Class war yeah right
Okay but who is brad?
“In the corporate world, you’re a success if you have an off-white business card with a watermark.” Proceeds to show a business card with no watermark, but other features like embossed text and a custom font. I’m just saying, if you insist on inserting irrelevant movie and tv clips into your videos, at least make sure the script fits the visuals.
bro who's Brad!??
My favorite would be Mysterio then Sandman.
6:55 you mean the amazing spider-man 2
oops
Its teen drama with superheroes it's not a spiderman movie he got his tech from a superhero instead of making anything him self they even took away his spider scenes for a Karen
Heyy is that Ubbe Ragnarson?
Well duh... this was hammered home in the movie pretty thoroughly, I thought
TheBobcatlover
It was there but it wasn’t hammered in .
Jovany Marquez oh yeah, I didn’t mean in a bad way. Just that is was a very obvious and clear theme in the movie which should make videos like this totally redundant
TheBobcatlover
I know . What you mean it was there even in the trailer with lines like the rich and the powerful don’t care about us !
WTF...you are not ready. lol
Thats your mom
The film's message is simple : one shouldn't try to run before he could walk.
Peter's an entitled selfish brat wielding great power without carefully grasping the great responsibilities that come with it.
@Erik Kemeey
How am I a Tobey troll? I actually enjoy this iteration of Peter Parker
@Erik Kemeey
He is selfish and that makes him human. He's been on a learning curve throughout the trilogy; it's a coming-of-age journey.
@Erik Kemeey
Before that, whilst completely negligent and oblivious of the danger and consequences, he kept an unstable Chitauri energy core and wore a suit with a deactivated "baby monitor'' protocol. He was responsible for a lot of legal issues such as putting his friends' lives on the line, the damage to the Washington obelisk, the splitting of the ferry and the endangerment of its passengers. He's a pure soul who's trying to do the right thing no doubt but his actions were mostly reckless. Doing wrong things for the right reasons doesn't make you commendable in any way. He didn't have the guidance nor the humility in wielding and securing dangerous technology and facing threats. We see him impatient, full of hubris and acting on impulse. Deep down he cared about getting away from his abusive peers, being valued, ''proving" himself to Stark and becoming a full-fledged Avenger. His delusion didn't end there, he was even thinking about dropping out of high school.
“I hate Brad“ :(
This guy trying to make a bad movie seem good
Doc Oc
Videos always be calling out Brads. Like we’re some type of Karen or something. Wth.
