My 2000F- 350 disintegrated the torque converter which then filled up the cooler and overheated the transmission.$4k later I have had no problems. I had a larger pump, shift kit and triple disk converter put in. The truck in stock engine setting will bark second gear and when in 4low will jump . I also had to have the stock radiator and trans cooler replaced because they are one unit from Ford. I have about 80k on trans now and also suggest getting fluid changed every 15k for longevity. Good luck nice build
I just got my 1999 f350 dually back from the transmission shop probably failed due to all the up grades I did....had it bullet proofed and wasnt cheap, but what ive learned is the 6.0 litre fords came with a much larger transmission cooler than the inadequate one they put in the 7.3 and I believe its a bolt on, also the mishimoto cooler is comparable to the 6.0 litre and is a bolt on aswell

No doubt you probably need to do that gear change with the bigger tires. Thanks for keeping all of us updated on the big machine!!
I eventually want to replace my 4r100 with an Alison 6 speed automatic transmission. It is pricey, but with the longevity of the 7.3 and the Alison, you should be set after that. The 4r100 is the weak link in these trucks. Mine was rebuilt a few years ago as well and still has some issues.
Hey man been following for awhile. I blew my trans a few weeks ago and went ahead and just had them build it. Billet converter, shift kit, etc. Less than 1k miles on it now and its great! Sorry to hear bout yours mine ran me just over 4800. I had ordered the bullet converter before hand.
It will not cool down too fast unless if you're moving. Those coolers need airflow. Also I would recommend getting CTS 3 so you can monitor a lot more at one time. I would also get an EGT probe especially if you're running Tunes.
Gearing is important for an auto transmission when you go bigger with tires because it corrects all the shift points. Your transmission won't work as hard or shift as often. Especially the overdrive or lockup.
I'm not going to lie. First thing I looked at was the transmission temperature when you got in your truck I was like does he notice how high it is. Lol mine is going to be like that too. There is a crossover hose on the cooler lines at the trans that is know to fail and bypass the cooler. Just something to check that might save you some money. Good luck. So honestly bro I still don’t know what I’m getting in terms of turbo boost psi. And that’s cool that you’re doing those upgrades bro!🤘🏻 your truck is gonna be a lot of fun💯
I have the simular setup on my superduty 7.3 but I have the 6.0 trans cooler but I get a code every now and then of a 3-4 up shift issue but feels fine, also to note that my EGTs are much higher and was told injectors and hpop would fix that
I was pulling my 30ft fifth wheel up a hill , in traffic, and overheated the trans a little. Put the Mishimoto trans cooler in and haven't seen the temp go over 150°. I haven't had the camper on the back yet though.
Pretty good! I was working on the “break in” period when I got the truck back so driving super light and wasn’t able to really get on it and “feel” the affects around town. But I did notice that I don’t have to push the pedal down nearly as much to accelerate like normal. Highway RPMs are pretty high though. I don’t love it, but don’t hate it either. With the 3.73s I could cruise at 75 mph @ 1700-1750 rpm. Now at 70 mph I’m at 2200-2250 rpm. So 70mph is pretty much the fastest I can cruise comfortably. Any faster and the RPMs are too high. Fuel economy seems about the same according to my edge monitor even at higher RPMs.
The 4r100 didnt fail because it was weak... not at these lower power levels... They lack cooling. 40s and a 4 speed on stock gears is alot different then 40s and a 6 speed on stock gears, this trans is stressed with stock diff gears, 40s and the 4r100 ratio... This thing needed gears and a fresh tq converter, 6.0 cooler and fresh fluid and filter installed, with all this it would have easily lived a long life. I was watching the tft the whole time like wtf... Haha... Stop driving!!! Egt and trans temp is all i watch on my 7.3.
Yeah I agree. I’ve been planning on doing the gears eventually, was saving up, and putting it off until I had the money. Now I waited too long 🤦🏻♂️😂 I’m thinking re-gear and upgraded trans rather than just replacing the torque converter??

Ethan Ryan well I have amp steps and they are a huge help! I also love the look of the truck without running boards, but when my amp steps were broken and I had to jump all the way up it was not easy! I wouldn’t be very happy without any steps at all. If my truck didn’t have amp step when I bought it then I would probably get bully steps cuz amp steps are ridiculously expensive. The are practical but the truck still looks awesome with them.
Jeremy Keith I don’t know what’s wrong with the RUclips app but it’s not posting all my replies. I tried replying to you but it’s not there. Anyways, I have a local shop that was recommended to me that’s going to check out my tranny and see if something can be fixed, like a clogged line, blocked cooler, bad sensor etc... If not, $4,900 for a built stage 2 transmission installed.

Mine went out slapped in a new ford one not really worth paying someone to “rebuild” the transmission especially once you price out a new unit w warranty /they also make an HD version also it’s not a lot of work to pull the unit out especially on a lifted truck. Only way I would rebuild one is if I was really beefing it up. The mechanic was going to “rebuild” mine and it was only 300 less than one part number and done vs opening up the unit and having the truck down until...85k later the truck is driving great save yourself money long term

Bro go get your transmission checked. When it gets that hot your clutches on the transmission literally starts coming apart and it will start slipping I know you don’t feel it now but you will eventually. Get a transmission that can handle 40s
The red line helps open the wastegate sooner. Most people experience more boost with the red line disconnected. Interesting bro. A lot of people with 40s tell me that 4.56s are a little too much and 4.11s are barely enough. Most people go with 4.11s-4.56s so I was think 4.30s would be perfect. The only people I know that go with 4.88s or 5.11s either have gas engines or like 44 inch tires. You have a 7.3 powerstroke with 4.88s?

@@NoHalfAss call up john at john woods his shop is in southern California... Tell him what's going on. He is the no b.s. master of 4r100s. Last year I called him expecting to buy a rebuild because of major flare during shifts, he sold me a valve body and told me to not spend if I didn't need to. He was certain it would fix my issue, it did. I also asked about at least getting a triple disk he told me to save my money that my setup didn't need it. He was the only guy to be straight and not want all my money... Bts, racer x and a couole others told me I had a time bomb on my hands... I have put 40k on that valve body no issues.
ExtremePower Addicts damn that’s awesome. I’ll hit him up for sure. Thanks bro!
Lmao and boost levels
275 wow I mean wow I kept looking at the tts . Look all I can say as far as my experiences is that u need a BIGGEr trans cooler bigger then Mishimoto and hopefully it's on a trans pump or a solenoid pack can that's a cheap repair .I feel u man been there too
This video is a little old now, so now I have a stage 2 built transmission🤘🏻 after getting that installed, I wasn’t happy whenever I saw my trans temps reaching 200° so I finally installed the mishimoto trans cooler and now they stay nice a cool with no issues!🤘🏻
@@NoHalfAss Nice and cool like 180?
Hey I had the same problem once which was not too long ago come to find out there is a bypass check valve to two lines that goes into the transmission and absolutely check valve is bad
I’ll check it out! Would be nice if that’s the only problem 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
@@NoHalfAss when your transmission cools down you might find out it will shift into gears but keep an eye on that transmission temperature because I think it will get hot again and if so that would be the oil transmission bypass line that connects to the side of the transmission
Bo Bodine okay I’ll check it out for sure. Thanks bro!
Cody bro! Wondering how you like your truck without the running boards? I am tossing up the idea of cutting mine off I really like the look of your truck without them on! But I am sure that’s quite the hop up haha 🤣
Fluid was probably boiling, check the dipstick at all? Either way situation sucks.
I’m going to check it out in a bit. I’ll be looking at the color and checking for and metal shavings. Haven’t been able to check it yet though.
Sonnax cooler bypass valve kit 36605-02K allows the bypass valve assembly to be rebuilt
Symptoms:
TCC slip
Soft TCC apply
Code 1783
Code 1741, 1744
Overheating
Low cooler flow
Overheated converter
Overheated OD area
Jeremy Keith I don’t know what’s wrong with the RUclips app but it’s not posting all my replies. I tried replying to you but it’s not there. Anyways, I have a local shop that was recommended to me that’s going to check out my tranny and see if something can be fixed, like a clogged line, blocked cooler, bad sensor etc... If not, $4,900 for a built stage 2 transmission installed.
80HD Projects lol. I post like 4 comments to you. They show up for a second then disappear. Last comment I post it said google error. I was thinking to myself that every comment, basically repeated info, lol, will all post at same time. Embarrassing.
Jeremy Keith hahaha what the heck?! Super weird bro. Lol
80HD Projects just in: RUclips tested positive for COVID-19!
Jeremy Keith 😂😂😂
Sounds like your torque converter is shot. Get one from monster transmission... Good luck man
I hope your little truck feels better soon
Mine went out slapped in a new ford one not really worth paying someone to “rebuild” the transmission especially once you price out a new unit w warranty /they also make an HD version also it’s not a lot of work to pull the unit out especially on a lifted truck. Only way I would rebuild one is if I was really beefing it up. The mechanic was going to “rebuild” mine and it was only 300 less than one part number and done vs opening up the unit and having the truck down until...85k later the truck is driving great save yourself money long term
Good to know bro thanks!
I knew trans was gone when he started driving and I seen the temp
Haha I hit 25 pounds of boost with my factory turbba many times it sounds like this ... Choochoochoochooohooochooo haha
Mishimoto trans cooler
Trans fluid temp is high af
And if it happens again don't just stair at the truck gauges grab a water hose and hose down the transmission cooler while running
Run Amsoil ATF and get a 37 row trans cooler,
I have the mishimoto trans cooler now, with the stage 2 built tranny and everything works great!👍🏻
It could be temp sensor
That’s one way to melt the trans lol my 7.3 trans doesn’t run over 150 and if I does I stop and let it cool down I do have the bigger 6.0 trans cooler anything over 220 u should really stop driving to avoid damage
eric dasilva I know, and I totally wish I caught it earlier. For the purpose of testing the turbo for this video I was just watching the boost and mph on my edge. I didn’t even noticed the trans temp goin up until it was too late!
Was like 275 lol
Time for gears and triple disc converter
MrPowderEater a local reputable shop quoted me $5k for a built stage 2 tranny. That’s next. Then I need to find a place to do my gears. I’ve been quoted $2k to change gears but the place doing my tranny wants $3,200 so I’m not going to use them for that.
80HD Projects what get gears are you running now I’ve got 3.73’s with 37’s and I’m thinking that’s al little high I know you’re rocking 40’s? Was you converter locked up when you were doing the test and definitely get a 6.0 trans cooler since I did that I haven’t seen a temp over 150
MrPowderEater I’m rocking the stock 3.73s too. After I get the stage 2 built trans put in hopefully next week, then I’ll put the mishimoto trans cooler on right after🤘🏻
Thanks to you tuner guys that billow out black smoke, California is trying to ban pre def pre emissions diesels, good job guys!!
That communist Gavin Newscum wants to outlaw all gas and diesel driven engines in California ASAP and have only electric vehicles on the road here. It’s not just pre def Diesel trucks! Learn your facts!!
275 is straight cooked lol. I've never seen above 180 even pulling a fully loaded gooseneck
Ps get rid off those one way check valve on the trans cooler lines
Put that mishimoto 6.0 trans cooler
brandoncain91 I plan on it for sure!🤘🏻
Your trans temp is about 60-80 degrees too high my boy. You have the temperature right in front of you and it’s been high the entire time but you didn’t notice until your truck didn’t want to move🤦♂️ You gotta watch your temps bro
No shit
@@NoHalfAss says the guy that burnt up his trans😂🤙🏻🤙🏻
@@Bry_nlch you think a stock tranny will last with 40” tires, upgraded turbo, heavy tune, etc. ?!
I ran it till it blew up and then put a built stage 2 tranny in 🤷🏻♂️ Watching temps wasn’t going to prevent it from blowing. The temps got too high BECAUSE the torque converter shredded. But I got the money to blow, so thanks anyways for telling me what I already know
@@NoHalfAss 😂😂😂😂
Bro go get your transmission checked. When it gets that hot your clutches on the transmission literally starts coming apart and it will start slipping I know you don’t feel it now but you will eventually. Get a transmission that can handle 40s
Yeah I’ll probably be getting a better trans and regearing at the same time. Looking for recommendations on the tranny 🤔
Heard many good things about Sam Wyse built 4r100's, you can also look into John Wood, BTS, or a good reputable trans shop around
Bill from powerstrokehelp also recommends him as well
I’ll check them out. Thanks!!!
Hook up the vacuum line to the turbo. Might run better
The red line helps open the wastegate sooner. Most people experience more boost with the red line disconnected. I don’t really know personally because the little rubber connections for the lines are corroded and I’m not even sure when it happened so I never noticed the difference with it being connected or not.
I didn't know what it was for. My super duty has a gas engine
Also you will need new hpop to push that turbo
It was 275 the whole video
I know. I was watching my boost numbers and didn’t notice the trans temp getting high
4:88 to 5:11 gears would be better
Interesting bro. A lot of people with 40s tell me that 4.56s are a little too much and 4.11s are barely enough. Most people go with 4.11s-4.56s so I was think 4.30s would be perfect. The only people I know that go with 4.88s or 5.11s either have gas engines or like 44 inch tires. You have a 7.3 powerstroke with 4.88s?
@@NoHalfAss I'm using 4:56 with 42's, I used to tow a 10k lb boat around with no problems. My speedometer matches my actual speed. I had 40's on mine when it had a 12" lift, 4:56 was still a great choice.
John Beckwith oh nice! Good to know, thanks bro!!!
Turbo was a waste of money.
That stinks
Seriously!
