    ....myself and fellow military miniature figure artists/painters used it to both cut the gloss of oils and to hasten their drying times...haven't picked up a brush since 1986 and still have a larger container of the stuff...surprised to find Dorland's on RUclips...

    I like this preserving wax! I like to use a foam applicator and then buff it off with a microfiber cloth 💗💗💗🤗

    I've used the cold wax medium several times. It's worked well for me. I first tried it in my sketchbook to see if it smeared the paint. It didn't, but later going through the sketchbook, forgetting I had applied the seal, I saw something I wanted to change...🤣 I started painting on top of it, that didn't work! The watercolor beaded up and wiped off easily with no change!😂

      If I understand correctly you can use krylon karmar varnish spray. It is supposed to come off if you need to make changes to watercolor🙂

    This is my preferred way to seal watercolors! It admittedly bums me out that it's matte, and will definitely undercut any mica paints such as Finetec.
    But still absolutely worth it, especially to send watercolor postcards

      Hey Kathleen, yes, in theory… you would just have to make completely sure that it is dry! Completely dry! Totally dry… or it’s going to smear your work trying to apply it to the surface. Thanks for your question! Julie 😊

      It doesn't have much of a fragrance at all thankfully. Local art store might have a jar you could try. Gamblin also makes a high quality cold wax.

    The picture you put the wax on, looked like it was covered with a whitish coating, my question is, why didn't you use a painting with clear details,and bright colors?

    • @coralrue
      @coralrue 2 месяца назад

      I doubt a picture with bright colors and clear details would have any effect on whether or not a whitish coating would appear.

    I feel like charcoal and graphite would smear from using this stuff.
    Also, I get why people hate using a spray fixative because if you don’t use it right, you WILL get drips and such. I honestly don’t like to use it because it’s so bad for the environment to do so in an aerosol can. I wish they found a better way to apply it such as in a regular spray bottle, maybe one that still has a very light mist spray head on it. But I’m very hesitant to use these products because of its environmental impact, but still wish there was a better way because the alternatives which are better for the environment, are fewer and far between.

      @SabineLeppanen_Art Год назад

      There is an alternative. Spectrafix. Buy the concentrate and mix what you need. Add it to a “fine mist” sprayer (important). It’s made of casein, non-toxic, doesn’t have fumes. It doesn’t smear charcoal or graphite (as wax definitely does), but you need several light coats as with any fixative.
