Love you Julie and all your great suggestions, and your attitude mostly. You do not take yourself too seriously despite the fact you are a damn .. fine artist
Thrift shops, tag sales (garage sale - whatever you call it in your neck of the woods), and neighbors getting rid of stuff are my favorite sources of frames. I ONCE did an odd-sized digital piece for my son's birthday - and to have it framed cost me $80 20 years ago! (it was a very nice frame but it was the perfect color, surface and all that and I'm a sucker for my only child) I NOW think about the dimensions of my work as I work. I LOVE these tips.
Thank you. These are great tips about framing. What I really love is the dose of creative sass and some encouragement to think creatively as much as do something new. Always useful and appreciated. Cheap Joe’s definitely gives valuable advice to artists. 🙏🏻
Hey Leesha... No... but that is a GREAT idea! I will add it to the list for the upcoming shoot! Be on the lookout! Thanks for watching and thanks for your question! 😊 Julie
I love this Julie. Another great resource for frames are Animal Shelter thrift stores, etc. You would need to purchase the mats, etc from Cheap Joes. I have some beautiful frames from a couple of stores this way. I love the amount of white space in this. It gives your painting an elegant touch.
Hey Carol! In this specific piece I used a POSCA pen to do the metallic line work on top of the dried alcohol ink. Thanks for your question and for watching! 😊 Julie
Do the ready made frames like the white one you used here come with the glass, I have found in searching for frames on line, most companies do not include the glass...let me know, framing my watercolor paper artwork is difficult for me, more about finding the same frame in different sizes and having the glass included. Thanks for your 2 minute tips, I watch them all the time.
Hey Karan... I believe that all of the ones that we carry do. (I mean other than the wooden ones designed for canvases) We have a bunch of cool varieties and you can do all sorts of cool stuff with the pre cut mat selection we have too! Thanks for your question and thanks for watching! 😊Julie
Hi, just found you. Please advise on 'water color sealer'? What to use and how? I searched CJ's and didn't find anything specific to WC. I love your practicality!! I've run out of room to hang formal framed pictures with large mats (time consuming to reframe). These ideas will let me easily change around the pictures and show my 'stack' more!
Hey Bonnie... if you can zoom in and see these hooks that look like triangles...? You string your hanging wire thru those triangle hooks. (Instead of D rings) Easy! Thanks for your question and for watching! 😊 Julie
Hey Ernest... yeah! Absolutely! Some of us are Etsy and others sell via other venues. We are out there! Thanks for your question and for watching! 😊 Julie
Unfortunately many readymade frames are not as well made as custom frames. You pay for quality of the moulding and the design capabilities of the framer. Corners on readymade frames may not line up, there is gaping, sometimes filled with putty. Sometimes there are dents and scratches. All of which take away from your art. However when you can find a decent readymade frame by all means buy it!
You should NEVER put tape on your watercolor - including atg. You have to use a water activated hinge tape and create a hinge so it could later be removed with water if necessary.
Hey Wilda... The fixative that I am speaking of is a specialized product formulated for watercolor by Schmincke. It’s pretty great! Thanks for watching! 😊 Julie
Just go get the darn tape. Better to make the demonstration authentic. And, PS, I don’t think mounting the bookmark that way works. It looks unfinished.

So enjoy you❤️
I love it. Thanks Julie!
Thanks Julie! Great ideas.
Julie, you’re a joy to watch, I always learn so much from you, and you make me giggle. Thanks!
Wow! Super helpful tip. Thanks!
Great tips ---I love the piece you framed in the white frame. I think it makes it look even more artistic.
Your delivery kills me 😊 You've made a fan of me!
So very helpful Julie!!
I love your sense of humor, great tips!
I am an amateur watercolor painter, and I have found some awesome frames at the Goodwill store.
Me too! Even some large custom frames at times😊
Hey Richard... you are right... that is an awesome place to source them from and good to upsource like that too! Good on ya! 👍🏻😊 Julie

Hi Julie. Thank you! Hey, does Cheap Joes have a vid on sealing watercolor pieces?
Hey Leesha... No... but that is a GREAT idea! I will add it to the list for the upcoming shoot! Be on the lookout! Thanks for watching and thanks for your question! 😊 Julie

I’ve just discovered you and recently subbed. Love your style of delivery 😀. Greetings from a new RUclipsr in the UK 😀🤓🤗
Thanks! My aunt used to spend so much on custom frames.
Lovely!
Love these videos. Keep them coming and really enjoy your personality. I order all my supplies from Cheap Joes and always have great experiences. :-)
Hi Julie! Can you tell me about the metallics in your painting?
Hey Carol! In this specific piece I used a POSCA pen to do the metallic line work on top of the dried alcohol ink. Thanks for your question and for watching! 😊 Julie
Good tip!
I 💗 you, Julie! No shame in packing tape amidst the time of the Corona. Just saying! Thanks for the tips.
...unless you want to preserve your art, that is...

Dorland's wax medium
How do you put a hanging wire on that frame?

You should never use a "fixative" on watercolors.

You get what you pay for. Ready mades dont have conservation glass nor acid free mats.
