  • Controlling smart home devices through your home with Alexa is not only fun but very convenient. In this video, I will show you one way to control your garage door using Alexa. Since Alexa by default will not control locks, alarms or garage doors using voice control for security reasons the process is a little involved but it’s not very complicated. This will also help you work around other devices in your home.

    How is that done using the new SmartThings app (without using yet another app ie SharpTool)?

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123  3 года назад

      Should be done the same way. You just create a virtual device for your garage door and then create Automations that open and close your garage door with that virtual device so Alexa can then control your garage door. But I would definitely check out SharpTools because it has logic and makes creating complex and simple rules much faster and easier. Also the rules engine is completely free with no limits on the number of rules.

    Hi, thanks for the video. Smart rules is no long available. Any idea how to make the Go Control GD00Z-4 and Alexa work together. I have been looking all over and no luck. Thanks

      Good call. I need to do an updated video on that! Basically most of the steps will be the same except for making the actual rule. Here is my introduction to SharpTools video

      Connect with me on Facebook and I can share how to set up the rules in SharpTools. I wish you could send pictures on RUclips comments!

      I think I got it to work. I used a virtual switch in smartthings, and use sharptools rule engine. I used the virtual switch (garage door remote) to open and close the garage door. I have to say to Alexa turn garage door remote on or off. I would like to say open or closed. I would be greatfull to see your take on it. Thanks

      Also Alexa can be a bit intermittent as us usual.

      In the Alexa App just create a routine so you can say exactly what you want. Check out this video

    GoControl has horrible build quality. They fail consistently.

    • @SimplySmart123
      @SimplySmart123  5 лет назад

      I wonder if it’s the build quality that is the issue or if it’s the fact that it can be exposed to extreme heat, cold and moisture since it located it the garage.

      @@SimplySmart123 The conditions in my garage aren't really extreme. Some people have repaired theirs. It would seem to be the LED failing in a lot of cases and people have managed to successfully bypass it with a resistor soldered in it's place.
