Google "Wasserfahren Basel" they face forward and the oar is fixed to the boat where it rotates. So its forward facing rowing.
The direction you look at has nothing to do. If the oar rotates around a fixed point on the boat its rowing. If not its paddeling.

i was gonna say that this facility probably costs a million times more than say just going out and paddling. But again, a treadmill costs a lot more than just going out and pounding the pavement. you need the regularity to train and compare results.
@@Green87 you think an olympic athlete will train on a $200 treadmill? This is a state of the art Indoor Kayak pool. A state of the art treadmill is cost thousands to over 10k.

This facility is in Potsdam close to Berlin. It is used by the german national team. The facility was already build by the GDR.
