- Needed this clip for an English project, and as much as I love the fandom, there is literally not one link to the unedited, un-jazzed up version, so I made my own. Huzzah.
I DO NOT OWN MEGAMIND, HE IS THE SOLE PROPERTY OF DREAMWORKS (not that they know what to do with him :P). THIS IS NOT MY MOVIE, I JUST SNIPPED A BIT FOR AN ASSIGNMENT. PLEASE DON'T SEND ME TO JAIL.
This scene always gets me right in the feels. But if there's one thing I admire about Megamind in this scene, it's this-- even though he's been rejected, he doesn't make drama out of it like Tighten did. He just lets Roxanne go. That is the mark of a true gentleman.
Titan just wanted to be a hero for a selfish reason. Megamind only did bad stuff because he believed he was forced into a life of crime by fate.

at least megamind can take rejection. rejection turned hal into a villain
His whole life revolves around being rejected, so he is pretty much use to it which is very sad :(. At least he handled it like a true gentleman where Hal made drama out of it like she was his property.

@@rolinreyes6846 well, Hal is that kind of "nice guy", but Megamind is the true nice guy. All he ever wanted is to be accepted and appreciated. From a naive kid with a bullied childhood to a bitter adult who crave for acknowledgement, Roxanne is the first one who gave him a hug and like him for his true, genuine personality. Minion is exception because he is more like a nanny to look after Megamind.
He was always a villain!!!

This is seriously one of the most underrated animated movies in film history!! I love that despite the simple concept on the plot and the character stereotypes, there is lots of complexity on the character development that it makes them more unique than they appear!
This is also one of the most emotional scenes I've ever seen in both live-action and animated film, making this one of my favorite scenes in the movie! When Megamind is exposed from his disguise, Roxanne is clearly disgusted and is in shock after believing that dating her was just another one of Megamind's evil schemes!
But in truth, Megamind genuinely fell in love with her and saw that starting a life with her could've been the perfect way to end his life as a supervillain! At 2:29 Roxanne herself realizes his feelings for her and his true intentions. But despite this, she is convinced that because of his long history of wrong doing they can never be together!
What gives the audience hope that there is a chance however, is when she looks back at him 3:07. Which conveys that despite all of what's happened, she too has feelings for Megamind! I know this is long and weird, but I needed to let all of that out!!! LOL!!!

2:26 gets me every time. SO much emotion and story in a single look and the defeated sound of the "no" makes it so much sadder...

Agree! The animators did an outstanding job with making the character's emotions and facial expressions feel real in emotional scenes like this. They know when to make their expressions exaggerated in comedic moments, while toning it down for these scenes. Also have to give Will Ferrell and Tina Fey credit for their phenomenal voice acting, their performances is what really delivers.

My heart always goes out to him when I watch this scene. He was actually trying so hard to be good because he fell in love with Roxanne. I know he did all those things Roxanne said, but I still feel bad for him.
I personally understand both sides, Megamind knew Roxanne would never look past his image as the villain who has terrorizes a city she loves, but she doesn't really know what kind of person he is deep down which is why he lied and dated her with his Bernard disguise. But Roxanne also had every right to be angry as bad as that sounds, she felt used and was disgusted feeling as if she was only being apart of his schemes but that goes away by a sight bit after she realizes he genuinely found love through her and only wanted her to see his true self.

"What about judging book by cover." very powerful and sentimental statement from Mega mind. Best line of the movie. "Do you ever really think I will ever be with you" - "No". That is call love....I find Megamind is the true victim here. I have never seen such a tragic animated character. Most of them are black and white. But Megamind blows our hearts away. In that sense it is unique.
That is what I love so much about this movie, it took me completely by surprise. It was present through marketing as a movie that only spoofs the superhero genre, but it actually does more than that. It has a very deep and interesting meaning that brings out another side to the superhero genre. The characters are presented as if they're one dimensional, but they are actually very complex and I love it. Megamind always wanted to fit in with everyone else, and even though people only viewed him as a monster he never lost his good heart he secretly had.

Anyone ever notice how when Megamind transforms into another person he also takes on their voice, but he doesn't with Bernard? Have you ever noticed that the only thing that doesn't change when he transforms into others is the color of his eyes? Every time he transforms into another person his eyes are still green even though no one he transforms into has green eyes. Metroman and the warden both have blue eyes and Bernard has brown eyes! Just a couple of things I always watch when I obsessively watch this movie.

tigger31086 The one little thing that bothered me was at the end of the movie, minion is disguised as mega mind and he still has green eyes. Even though Minion has brown eyes.
I can't get past the way he looks at Roxanne at 2:25...it's so vulnerable: telling a million things without a single word. Longing, love, the need to tell her everything but knowing it will be futile in the end-it's all written in that look. This scene is extremely realistic and conveys the sentiments involved perfectly; I think that's what makes it so powerful.
I just want to give him a big hug and tell him it's alright. 😭😭😭😭

Something is wrong with me. This is the saddest scene in the movie yet I cannot stop watching it! LOL! Anyway, I know a few of the comments people have made regarding the look he gives her after she asks what he hopes to gain means love, but every single time I watch this scene I always see "you" written all over his face when he looks up at her.

Little detail I recognized: Roxanne's clothing changes as her relationship with megamind progresses. At the beginning of the movie, her dress was red, showing how she and the blue megamind were complete opposites. Then in the middle of the movie (including this scene), her dress is purple, showing how her and megamind lives were now intermingled and how she has mixed feelings of anger and love for him. Finally, at the end of the movie, her dress is completely blue, showing how she and megamind's relationship was close and friendly (though probably platonic)
and how she has accepted him for the flawed hero that he is. It is tiny details like this that make a subversive treat like Megamind such a good movie.
P.S: I do kind of ship Roxanne x Megamind. Dont hate, it's just my opinion.

2:26-2:45. the look on his face breaks my heart. you can tell he's absolutely, seriously in love with her and is ashamed of it because of who he is. and he knows she'll never love him _because_ of who he is, and you can feel the despair bleeding from his eyes. this movie is so freakung underrated.

This scene always gives me that feeling that I can just never explain...
It really does hit hard. For a moment there, he really thought he could be someone other than the bad guy. Then reality hit him like a ton of bricks.

Sixteen years old, still feeling bad about this scene.
And now it got even worse because being bullied for eight years and being rejected by the guy I liked because of that made me understand what Megamind was passing through.
I relate a lot to him, really.

Shows that Megamind needs to be careful around Roxanne cause he deceives a lot and has to learn the hard way that deception is not the right thing to do.
So, we've established that I am obsessed. I had to come and comment that my stomach still turns every time she says, "Do you really think I would ever be with you?" I feel so bad for the guy. He's trying so hard to be good now and he's done things for Roxanne to show her he's a good guy. I'm glad she gave him a chance in the end though.
I love how when Roxanne explained everything Megamind did he didn't even try to explain how he's becoming a better person because he knows he was in the wrong for tricking her in the first place
Yeah! Megamind realized here that pretending to be someone that he wasn’t only drove Roxanne further away and he needs to be myself while changing for the better again so Roxanne was able to give him another chance
The scenes with Gru leaving the kids back to the orphanage and Ralph breaking Vanellope car were sad. But this Megamind scene is just heartbreaking and hurt to watch as a kid and a adult

I've only seen the TV spots about it, and those were boring and did neither show the Superman-parodies, let alone the depth of the anti-hero... literally every short scene of the movie you can find on youtube are better than the ads. i think the most heartbreaking thing about this scene as that you feel terrible for megamind but at the same time you know the roxanne is right
Something I love about this scene is how, when Megamind says, "I can explain!" you can see one of his 'no you can't' posters in the background.
It's such a small but wonderful detail.

Years ago, I saw this scene playing on a display TV at a Walmart and I instantly went into the DVD section and bought it. No regrets!

Remember that the last time Roxanne saw Megamind was when they fought in the evil lair. When she's walking away from the restaurant, watch her facial expressions at 1:46; She is thinking back to all of those times when she was with Bernard, but is now inputting Megamind there.
In practical scenario, she never turns back, the guy never expresses his feelings to anyone ever again in his life, the girl marries to a handsome guy and lives happily ever after, the guy lives with a broken heart till he dies.
Only if the guy chooses to live like that my stranger friend. Finding TRUE love and losing it is one of the most painful things, worse than the most painful of tortures. However, one is left with a choice afterwards. Most people chose both. They can't simply move on, they keep going day by day, feeling miserable, thinking their lives is pointless and not even waiting for anything, just feeling pain. In the end, it is not you who heals the wound, it's the wound that heals you, changes you. Until eventually, one day, it fades and your past becomes nothing but a scar, and you'll learn to smile and be happy again, this time, appreciating even more every moment, for you've learned what its like to live without them.
This is how I feel when I messed up on my last relationship, she found out my secret and then she dumped me in the middle of the night and I ain't seen her since. But if I'd love her that much, I'd let her go and never turn back

This scene was one of those when I wanted to hug him so bad (In general I had a soft spot for him since I was a young kid) and not let go for a moment.
