You're amazing DIYD!!! I JUST RECEIVED my brand new outdoor light to replace the mess that has been there since I bought the house. I have NO IDEA how to install past wingin' it (do know to turn the breaker off...lol) and here you are! I appreciate you Dad! You're a life saver to this little ol' widda woman trying to do stuff on her own!!! Bravo!!!
I know I can do it but I wanted to see exactly how you do it. I've done similar work but your video makes me feel at ease knowing this is exactly how I was going to do it. Thanks for the video!!!
Great instructions...putting the wire nuts on the wires and trying to tuck them in IS behind is Frustrating but I did it and all works fine...Yeah! Subscribed
On this particular light fixture, was there additional steps to setting up the motion sensor, and when the motion sensor actvates the light, how long does it stay illumated? And can the illumation be adjusted? Thank you
I don't have the wires coming out of the wall so I cut one end of and industrial extension cord and attached to the light and plug the other end to the wall. It works perfect!
Fyi you don't have to pre twist the wires together before using the twist cap. In most cases it's better if you don't and just let the cap do the twisting in order to make a tight connection.
On the bracket included with this particular light, has a green screw for the ground, but I dont remember that screw being used for the ground wire either from the house or the light itself, so why is it there??
The one I have has 3 white wires together with a wire nut. Do cut the wire nut so I can put them together again with the white cable coming from the wall?
so I can either use wire nut to connect both ground wire or just tighten the light's ground wire to the screw(do I need to tighten the ground wire from the house to the screw as well or leave it hanging?)
Hi I had a question, I have an outside light but it’s a manual switch beside the door inside the house. So it’s useless when we want to get into the house and can’t see the keyhole clearly. Is it the same method to replace it with a motion sensor light?
Hello... Great video... What if the light I bought doesn't have ground wire to hook to the grounding bar? The lights case is plastic... The light will not go on even thought the black and white wires are connected properly? The old light had the three wires.
@@DoItYourselfDad oh ok thanks I got a three headed one instead of this one really happy with it so far seems pretty good the sensor picks up raccoons and all the other rodents lol
I have the same sensor light only problem I noticed it never shuts off completely like it comes on when motion is detected then after 3 mins it goes very dim but not completely off what could be the problem?
I had an electrician come out yesterday to install two of these for my front and back yard. He used what looks like to me as cords and then hooked them up to the lights leaving the cords exposed on the outside. He charged me six hundred for labor and material. At this point I'm beginning to think that he overcharged me for the work that he did. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
So, I installed a flood light motion sensor camera light where a previous light fixture was at outside the garage. Everything is working fine but when I turn off the front porch light, turns out it is also powering the light fixture side. The switch is a 2wave dim switch and right next to it is a normal light switch (up down) for the entrance hallway. Anyway of having the line for the motion light having constant power? Maybe wiring the wires to the regular light switch for a constant hot? Or would it need to be rewired to a seperate power supplier outlet? PLEASE HELP!!!! 😭😭
What if i dont have a ground wire coming out theres just the white and the black cable coming out and i put the ground cable from the fixture to the green screw and it doesnt turn on
I am replacing my standard outdoor spot light with a sensor spot light with a switch to operate. and when I disconnect it there was two white and two blacks and ground wire. The new sensor fixtures had one white and black and ground, so I connected white 2 white black to black and ground 2 ground. I cut the power back on and the new sensor light is not working
So I just attempted to change my light- my issue is that I can't access the metal box to push the wires in. There is a small hole that the wire are coming out of. The back of light I'm replacing was hallow- so the wires just sat in there there - any suggestions?
@@DoItYourselfDad I think there might be one. The hold is so small, can't really see anything inside. My house was built in 1918.. it seems they did the bare minimum with updates over the years.
What if there isn't a switch to the light I need to replace? I'm trying to install a motion sensing light to my apartment building in the car port but there are no switches to the wires I'd be installing the light into
That’s actually the ideal situation, with my situation the light had been on a switch before so I have to leave the switch on all the time. You still wanna make sure you find the circuit breaker so you can cut power while you’re doing the install.
Please show me how to put a turn wheel atop a spigot to my house it wasnt there when I moved in all that's there's the spigot but not the metal wheel thing to cut it on....and how do I find the house main water turn off? I'm tired of dragging a hose from front lawn to back .. thanks ..🌞💝👍.very cool video..I miss my Dad so much ...I wish I had paid attention when he tried to show me repairs when I was a teen
I have a blue and white wire, I connected the blue to the positive side and white to the negative but the light is not turning on when I turn on the switch? Bad cables?
Here's the problem. I took out the bulb from the socket, came out very easy, and I see that the socket has no threads, but the bulb is threaded. I can't put back the bulb in place, and don't know what was holding the bulb in the socket before? The bulb is big, I assume its halogen, and it was working fine before I removed it from the socket. I can't screw back the bulb because the socket has no threads (?)
I’ve tried to replace a motion sensor light that I have there hasn’t been used in years so when I tried to replace it it didn’t turn on and now the other motion sensor light at the other side of my house doesn’t turn on so now they’re both down any advice the wiring was done correctly the positive the neutral in the ground we’re all connected properly I just don’t know what it is any advice from anybody would be great thank you in advanced
If another light further down the line also isn't working it sounds like you have a wiring issue. I'd check to make sure everything is hooked up and connected.
At least you put the backing plate in the correct direction..The original that you removed was backward!..That installer must have wondered.."Why so hard to screw in?".. They say "Cross threading is better than loctite"..
You should see the nightmare that is this house and all the work I've been fixing. Today I found the previous owners teenage son's porn stash working on the AC....
Hello Sir, just wondering if there's a way to allow for the light to stay on permanently as well? They told me there's a switch but of course can't give electrical advice.
If its tripping you have a short somewhere. Turn off the breaker and pull the light down, make sure all your connections are secure and haven't come loose and that no copper is exposed anywhere except for the ground wire.
DoItYourselfDad thank you!! I noticed the wires that are coming from the wall are exposed. When screwed the light in I must punctured it. Off to buy electrical tape. I’m just a chef that at the age of 39 I’m trying to be handy lol
I looked at one video before this one, the only thing they said while doing this is there are "Three wires" That's it...that's all they said? Thank you, I'm putting one up right now...
You completely forgot to mention that as a safety precaution, you first need to dawn your full HAZMAT body suit and respirator to protect you from the massive amount of potential radon which may be emitted as the original light cover plate is removed. Additionally, a third arm cam be obtained by radical personal surgery in order to hold the light as you attach the wires. Not that any of this is actually a requirement, but if you believe in safety first, then it is certainly something to consider before attacking this DIY task. Just joking, but nice video to watch. Wish i could find such lights in the same color as my soffit/eaves to replace my original ones with. Thanks for posting.

Unfortionaly no, there wasn't any adjustability in the motion sensor.

You can ground the light to the box, or the common ground wire.

Yes, same method. You would need to leave the switch in the on position or remove the switch abs hard-wire it.
Do you stop need to turn on the switch light on?
It depends on how your circuit is set up. In my case, yes, but you could hard wire the switch to be only on if you wanted and delete the switch.

It should work fine, even without grounding.
So is the ground wire grounded inside the junction box?
Some are.

Can a extension cord be used instead
Technically yes, it wouldn’t be ideal, or to code, but it would work.
Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity? All I see is the on time switch no sensitivity dial
You can adjust the angle but not the sensitivity on this model.

use silicone if you have it, it works perfectly and keeps all moisture out and doesnt crack like normal caulk
