    Love your video! We just finished our home study and training. We are located in Florida, and they did focus mostly on how to parent children with trauma. I felt it was very repetitive and could have covered other topics like what to expect on a placement call, or how to prepare your home. Must all in all it was very good training. We are very excited to receive our first placement!

      Vaccines are generally not required, but this may depend on agency.
      You need to make enough money to be able to support yourself and a child without assistance. I was able to start fostering as a nanny, so you definitely don't have to be rich

    Hi there. I am starting the fostering process by attending an information meeting in a few days. How long do you think the process took for you from start to finish? Weeks? Months? Just curious. Loved the video!
    Thanks Shannon.

    • @AutumnRene

      The process from the informational meeting to being an open liscensed home took me about 4 and a half months. However, the process varies a lot by location. Good luck!

    Did they press any harder on you about social life and relationships since you were so young and single? I’m 24 and about to start paperwork for preliminary house inspection. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. How did you remain calm and collected?

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  3 года назад +1

      They definitely asked about social life and relationships like they would with anyone, but I just answered honestly. It is important to understand that your social life will change when you add a child to the mix - it isn't as easy to just have a night out with friends. That was probably one of the hardest adjustments for me was just suddenly feeling so homebound after baby was asleep.
      I stayed calm by making sure I was as prepared as I could be and focusing on the positives. At the end of the day, you can only do what you can do ❤
      Best of luck!

    Thank you for the video...tell me...does your state offer the pre service training...like CPR...I'm in D.C. and I'm thinking of fostering..
    The medical exam...they make sure you're NOT dying of CANCER? Is that true????

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  4 года назад +2

      Of course! They do require training including CPR. They do also require a medical examination to make sure you are able to care for a child.

    hey girl, so I am in GA and form speaking with our local DFCS and I think I read about having to be 25 to be a SINGLE foster parent, was there anything like that ever told to you that you ha to go through? I am also 23 but this is something I am wanting to do.

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  5 лет назад +3

      That may be true in GA, I am not sure. In Texas, you must be at least 21 years of age regardless if you are single or married. There is such a need for foster parents, they don't discriminate based on singleness

  • @alexxander966
    @alexxander966 4 года назад +4

    I’ve been looking into fostering, but I’ve decided I want an older child, probably 10+. Would they still require child proofing and stuff? I’ve tried looking around but I can’t really find someone who has fostered older kids, and what differences there are...

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  4 года назад

      This is a great video idea! The differences between fostering older children and younger. I know several single foster moms who take in older children (especially sibling groups!). I think that is great. You will not need to necessarily "child proof" like you won't need baby gates. However, you will be required to "teenage proof" meaning all weapons, alchohol, medication, etc...will need to be locked up

    • @alexxander966
      @alexxander966 4 года назад +1

      Autumn Rene' - good thing I don’t have any weapons or medication and rarely drink lol (: if you do decide to make a video on that, I would be very eager to watch. I’ll keep my eye out. Also, I just became your 500th subscriber~

    What do I do if I don't have a physician at all.

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  3 года назад +1

      It is a requirement where I live to get a physician to sign off that you are mentally and physically healthy and capable of taking care of a child. You may be required to find one

    Does it matter if you have debt? I want to foster but I have some debt as well. I make enough to afford my apartment and have good credit. But I’m wondering if they will take have debt into account.

  • @michellehood3345
    @michellehood3345 3 года назад +1

    A floor plan of an apartment is easy bcuz it’s done already...but a house...how...not unless it’s a new build and has a blue print...what do you do...will you just have to get a company to come in and do for you? Why can’t they just come and measure the darn room...

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  3 года назад

      You just draw out a blueprint of your house on a piece of grid paper and make sure the dimensions are on there. That is what everyone who had a house in my training did! It can be time consuming to measure the rooms with a tape measure. Make a copy of your blueprint to use for fire escape routes too!

    I think it’s sooo interesting listening to videos like this! We’re currently in the training course in MA and it seems a lot easier here then it does for you in Texas, but I’m not sure if thats a good thing haha!

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  5 лет назад

      I didn't think the process in Texas was too difficult, it only took a few months. It is very interesting to see how it varies by state though! Good luck with your fostering journey!

    Is it possible to foster wihout a house or relitive references? I grew up in a broken home and my last few years as a teen were the worst and i wished i could just stay somewhere for two or there years so i could save and get my own apartment. i am 26 now but i still remember those years.... i live in an apartment but would like to offer a safe haven for teens looking for a safe place to say for a few years as they save up to live on thier own. I never got that safe place and often ran away to homeless shelters just to get away and had always wished for a safe place for me.

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  3 года назад

      Yes!!! Many foster parents love to foster older teens to help them transition into adulthood. There is a great need for this

  • @abigailk4379
    @abigailk4379 5 лет назад +1

    Did they mention anything about fostering for adoption when only renting homes at the moment. Did that make it more difficult to begin fostering?

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  5 лет назад +5

      Not at all! You can foster to adopt in a rented home or apartment 😊 children don't need fancy homes, they just need safe and loving ones

    • @abigailk4379
      @abigailk4379 5 лет назад

      Well wonderful! What about the finances with rent. I am 23 too and don’t think I could afford a three or four bedroom on my own (I’m hoping to take in siblings). My brother lives with me now, and could continue to do so, but would the foster program possibly provide financial assistance for that area? Did they discuss that at all?

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  5 лет назад +2

      @@abigailk4379 CPS only provides a small stipend to cover essentials like diapers, school supplies, etc...the children will have free health insurance and most states you can attend certain daycares for free. Other than that, you are on your own financially. Children are expensive and if you are doing it right, you will likely spend more on them than the stipend covers. I know I do and it is totally worth it, but I just want you to be prepared. As far as housing, as long as you have one spare bedroom you can take in siblings. Siblings of the same gender can share a room :)

    • @abigailk4379

    To become a foster parent was there any specific fee’s you had to pay?

    • @AutumnRene
      @AutumnRene  4 года назад +2

      Not really! The only fees I can think of that you might have to cover would be minor things like fingerprinting, CPR class or fire inspection. However, I think usually the agency or state provides most (if not all of that) free

  • @Lowcountryyankee

    • @AutumnRene

      There is not very much cost involved. Only a few small fees for things like CPR classes and fingerprinting. I do work full-time! When I started the process I was working 45 hours a week as a nanny and now I work 40 hours a week as a middle school teacher :)
