Autumn, I was your age when I first decided I wanted to become a social worker and help foster kids. I did end up going to college for something else but I was able to become a faster mom. You are not too young to start thinking about helping. God luck ❤️

I went to catholic school and one of our teachers (they are nuns) was in her 60s and was a foster parent for like 20+ years. She’d come in some mornings and be like “I’m sorry if I’m tired today I got a newborn yesterday who’s having drug withdrawals.” Or something and man she gave me major respect for foster parents. Especially working ones. God bless y’all.

Foster showers or adoption showers should totally be a thing. It doesn't matter if a child is biological or not.
Ideally, sure. A lot of families will have a kid per year for like 12 years though. Or 12 kids in one year. It’s overkill at a certain point.

Hi, hope you are all well. I was a carer for the local authority for 23years. I loved it and if not for my poor health I would still be a carer today. You reminded me how chaotic the first 24 hours was. I didn't have any babies, I had a little boy 5years old but his was 3year old and had A.D.H.D and learning difficulties. He stayed with me until he was 19years old. 15 years of really hard work. I tended to have teenagers, a good experience, i know the inside of court rooms, and police stations. As the years went by there were more paper work to do . Each child had there own book and they had to be filled in every evening. But enjoyed those 23 years.

I'm 13 now but ever since I found a RUclips channel where they adopt children and fostered some I've always wanted to be a foster mom or adopt kids. I was 7-9 when I found them and now since I'm getting closer and closer to 18 I'm working on figuring out what job I want so i can get that job get a house and do whatever I have to do be a foster mom :D
What a whirlwind 24 hours! I hope things calmed down for you guys. I think something all parents can agree on is when it comes to children, you have to be super flexible because things hardly ever go as planned! It was difficult for me to adjust to that because I’m a planner and control freak by nature. Sending you and the girls hugs 💞

I got my 1st placement about 3 1/2 months ago. He is a 7 year old D rate it’s been really tough. But he’s coming along. He came with so little. But we’ve been able to get him what he needs. I have room for 1 more child, but I really want to focus on the little one first & get him the help he needs.

Our new baby we picked up from the hospital last week. Luckily we have organization here that donates tons of stuff to foster children. Maybe you can look for an organization to pickup some items for the children
or Facebook Marketplace! You can get plenty of second-hand clothes, diapers, strollers, cribs, bounce chairs for very little from other mommas!

I'm in the UK and when I had my children I didn't have a baby shower or anything. Worth saying you don't have to buy absolutely everything brand new x

i feel like if one of my foster parents had done something like this i wouldn't have liked it at all. although i was a bit older when i was in the system (between 7 and 10), but the idea of a foster parent documenting my life like this and then sharing it publicly would have been extremely weird for me. ESPECIALLY if it was my first day with them. being in a new home is already scary on its own.
I hear you. I enjoy these videos but I would not be willing to document my own foster children’s lives online.
I do believe this foster mom is documenting *her* journey through the fostering process, not documenting the child's. She even moved the camera away from little ladies face to make sure she's not in the video to preserve her privacy!
One of our foster placements came with the clothes she had on a a pillow case with 6 pieces of clothing. All of which was 2 sizes too small. We were given a voucher for clothes and diapers/wipes. The only reason she even had a car seat is because I had one.

don't go into foster parenting specifically to adopt. because the goal of most cases is reunification. you're just setting yourself up for failure, and making it harder for the kids
You have way too many kids to be doing that. Focus on your own problems.
I’m only 15 and I want to foster really bad! I’ve wanted to foster since I was like 13 and I’ve started buying stuff with my own money that will help me when I’m older so I go to once upon a child when they have big sales and buy clothes and stuff in a little of every size and both genders exc I know a lot about foster care, dos and don’ts and plan to start the training process when I turn 21 as that’s the minimum age ❤️ I love helping people and really want to foster. 🙂

Is there any way you can share your PO Box with all of us? I'm sure many of us have clothes or toys that you could use, diapers you will need or even gift cards. Please let us help you on your journey, as you have helped so many of us with your determination and motivation to keep going even in the darkest of times. Sounds like our foster son. He came with 2 shirts, 1 pair of pants and 1 pair of too small pajamas. No diapers, wipes, or any other clothes. We had to start over 🙈

How do you recommend getting doctors apts set up so quickly? In my area at least, when I was on Medicaid myself (student teaching, only insurance available at that time) no where was accepting new patients using Medicaid. Do you find more options are available for kiddos in the system because of the 24hr need?
How does funding work for foster care in your state? I believe where I live there is a stipend available for the foster parents each month, but obviously it barely takes care of the most basic needs for the babes. ❤️

When we were foster parents we were reimbursed for everything we had to buy for the child. Only extra expenses we had were for anything she wouldn’t be keeping like furniture

Not like that in my state. The kids only get so much money for clothing for the year. And if they were in a previous placement and the money was spent then it's gone (which happens frequently). Foster parents also get about $250 a month for other expenses, such as toys, food, etc.
And based on her terminology I'd guess it's likely we're in the same state.

We are hoping to become foster parents soon. I’ve been talking to a few friends who have been for a while and was told to ask on your neighborhood page for clothes. Most people will give them for free or a low price.

yikes, as a former foster kid seeing someone call kids in the system is "lucky" makes me really uncomfortable. i'm glad they were placed in a good home, but they're not lucky. foster care is anything BUT lucky.

So you don’t get to just stay at home with her? Tough for you and for her. Grateful for our system where carers are compensated for lost income to be at home for a while (months at least) to focus on new placements.

I did not have a baby shower for my child. I had to get everything myself. Lots of others do too. It’s not as easy as being given everything but we make do.
Does your county not give a clothing stipen for the foster child? I'm from Hawaii and the foster children would get a clothing stipen. So the foster parent could go and buy clothes for the child.
We do, for Miss A we got $150 for clothing and shoes and we have yet to receive anything for little sister.
Do they tell you what doctor to go to? Why did you need to buy blackout curtains?

I’m a foster mom in WI. Do you not have a foster closet to go shop for free stuff or a group in your area that foster parents share stuff? We have been foster parents for 5 years and have never had to run to the store to get clothing. we just ask on our groups or people in our community donate to us. We are very lucky I guess. Also, do you not have a clothing allowance?
We do have a foster closet! I have not checked there, with Covid and the hours of its operation, it’s easier for me to run to the store to gather items to hold us over until we get the clothing allowance ☺️
@@ElaynaCain gotcha! Ours is part of a “goodwill” type store where people donate (like they do for goodwill) and anyone can shop there but foster parents get so much a month free. We can also earn extra monthly $ if we volunteer so many hours a month. Plus many other options and foster closets but that’s the main local one.
Does not the state pay you to take foster kids in?
technically, in some cases when they "pay you" the money is for that child and everything that child needs so if the family (tbh really the child) is paid its expected to be spent on the child. but idrk how its all set up

This is a frustrating assumption. The point of foster care is not that the children are necessarily going to be adopted. Ideally they’re just in a safe place as they go through some transition and their parents or relatives are figuring everything out for them. Obviously there are a lot of sad cases where children end up in the system a long time, but we don’t need to assume that they don’t have parents who can take them. I’m just starting to learn myself, but you can’t go into it expecting to be able to adopt every child you take care of and learn to love so that seems like a pretty dangerous assumption to me that so many people have. If you have that expectation I would think it would be so much worse when it doesn’t happen that way.
Hun, I know u were tired but how much would it have taken to at least take her clothes OFF & wipe her off real quick? I know it was a long day but that would have taken u ten minutes max. 2020? was still the very beginning of the pandemic on top of that. smh I don't want to come off as bashing u, just pointing it out.

Not at all. I’m asked all of the time how much it costs to foster with a new placement. The money spent means nothing, it’s all going to little ones who need what we purchase. I have an audience that asks these things because they too are interested in fostering.

Kids belong with their real parents ,99 percent of the kids in foster isnt even about abuse its about liesmade up by cps workers or the parents are just simply poori have worked in the field and seen first hand what these cps workers do to families
Foster care isn’t there for people to adopt them, it’s to provide a safe place for these children while their living arrangements are figured out. Ideally they would go back to parents if they’re stable again, or to other relatives. Obviously if they don’t have anyone to take them in like that it would be great to adopt them, but they’re not automatically up for adoption just because they’re in foster care.
If they are adopted by them then they can no longer help others as much

More often than not the goal of foster care is family reunification! Of course there are kids that won’t be reunified with their family its not the goal for whatever reason!! If it’s not lots of times the kids get put in kinship if adoption isn’t an option!!
Does foster care give you a few $$ to show you have worked regarding social security? If you did it fill time? You have given a lot of energy, time and cost.
I think some costs are reimbursed
I would like to see the energy you give recognize as work regarding social security. Need 10 years of employment to receive a pension.
@@wanda4573 i meant as a caregiver u get an "allowance" to help pay for things the child will keep with them/use such as clothes,toys and things like that
@@Kytti-not-kitty does that income go towards the 10 years of recognized work required for ss later? I used to be paid for providing private care but the payment never covers a moorage and my dental bills etc. But I had privacy with who came over and when and where I went. I wanted to do foster care but my hubby travelled a lot for work and did not want to be bothered attending foster parent classes etc. He wouldnt be their for the bulk of the time the child was with me. So I missed out and our wee daughter. He was happy to sign a piece of paper for a police back ground check.

As a foster parent for 6 years and now adoptive mom of 2, I find this video incredibly disturbing. Instead of focusing on the child, bonding with her and giving her her undivided attention, this foster parent is busy making a youtube video for complete strangers. This is not how it should be.

I dont want to be rude but for sure you had to know that you where going to need to buy things for those kids in need, I feel too much disappointment because you complaining abou it. Why did you put yourself in that situation if you where not ready to give those kids what they need. Look for things with family and friend to be prepare nex time when another kid arrive, have clothes, shoes toys storage, and keep doing it to have a new thing when those kids leave with what you gave them. It is easy, less mony and you will be prepare for any age any time. Everything is a caos for you !!!!!. It is horrible to hear it
Bc of my own personal experience currently I will be unsubscribing from your channel. I don't approve of the whole foster parent thing through CPS. Not your fault but some counties are a crooked and corrupt organization to be involved with. You honestly have no idea what you've gotten yourself into with that and what actually goes on, on the other side of that situation and how much hell CPS puts people through. They will take people's children that don't actually need to be in care just to generate revenue then put them through hell, both the bio parents and the child that was placed in care. They are unethical and illegally ran. It reminds me of black market adoptions. The parents who had their children taken can go above and beyond what they're being asked to do to be reunified with their child and lie to the judge and say they haven't done anything they need to be doing to get their child back when in facy they have all these certificates from the numerous classes they've taken. The caseworker through the CD will make promises to the bio parents that if they accomplish this and that they can have unsupervised visits or that their children will be reunified and get to come home before the beginning of the next school year and as soon as the parents complete something the CD will back water on them and they won't keep their word. The Children's division will deliberately give the parents wrong times of court dates and FST meetings just to get the parents to miss and then look irresponsible or just plain not give them enough proper notice where they have adequate time to make other arrangements just in case the court date or fst meeting conflicted with another appt at that time on the day of. The children's division will manipulate and tell you one thing about the bio parent(s) and it won't be anything close to the truth. I wish you all the best. Good luck. I feel sorry for all the children that don't actually need to be in foster placement but are stuck there bc of all the dishonest deceitful things the caseworkers are trained to lie about the bio parents. It's absolutely disgusting and a sick situation to be in.
