I Love Summer So much she's my favorite doll Right now and I took her with me yesterday to my IV Transfusion of my immune system. Which takes a few hours so me summer sat side by side and Grandma sat in a random chair right beside me.

Thank you so much for talking in depth about the packaging changes being an eco-friendly choice and emphasizing how important that is. When you think about... how many dolls are made, and how much plastic is being used in that packaging, and how it seems EVERY aspect of the packaging has been changed to eco-friendly materials ??? that's crazy! the only plastic is the DOLL herself! When many people don't have access to buy in person at stores, and most people shop online, that change... is so valuable.

I don't mind the new boxes other than the giant graphics on the front. I like the new sustainable packaging and having no window doesn't bother me, I just don't want the graphic. I really miss the box collections too. 😥
I am so glad your parents are ok! I am glad that they are getting everything that they need, no matter who and where it comes from. In times like this I believe that everyone (no matter their political affiliation) should come together to help and I am glad they seem to be doing so. Also your hair tips on restyling older Samantha from an older video where you rehabbed a white body doll worked so well! Its amazing how dish soap worked EXPONENTIALLY BETTER than expensive shampoos; unreal. Thank you for the tips :)
Thank you for bringing up the hurricane. I'm just outside of Asheville. No power, no water. Lots of people helping. FEMA is here, the National Gaurd and so many volunteers from all over. I am so glad your family is safe.

So happy to hear that your family is ok but it is very sad. I’m in central Georgia where the center of hurricanes never pass through - until Helene. We had no major destruction at my house other than exploding transformers and no electricity for several days. But family and friends in South Georgia were hard hit. Thinking of Y’all.❤️
Thank you for an honest and personable review. I also have family and friends who live in the areas that were impacted by the hurricane and fortunately, everything is OK for them. I agree that people should ease up on the negative comments that I see on FB and YT. It’s OK not to like a doll because she/he doesn’t jive with them. It’s never OK to speak negatively about a doll because one represents a certain racial appearance. I still hope that AG will in future releases diversify their GoTY.
As someone who’s lived in FL for the past 20 years, I wish I had a ton of money to help. It’s one thing here where, unfortunately, we’re used to hurricanes. But it’s devastating when you see the damage of somewhere that gets maybe 1 hurricane every so many years. Glad you and yours are safe!
Girl of the year was also an experiment Test aswell with Lindsey in 2001/2002 and Kailey 2003/2004 and because they worked they sold not to great but in 2005 we got Marisol and sje sold out before Christmas we now have the GOTY line which holds a special place in my heart because Kailey was my first doll and she was doll of the year. So I have all the girl of the year dolls and then I also have all the historicals too but girl of the year is what I mainly Colloct and have since I was 10 and I learned to read with Kailey book so that's why I love the GOTY line and I have 2 nieces and I know one day they'll be old enough for 18inch dolls. I want to get Joss 2020 Corrine 2022 the year my nieces were born and they can be their First AG 18inch doll.

Shortly after opening my summer doll with Joesafina and Addy's birthday dresses she fell over and hit the corner of my nightstand Hard And I looked at her yesterday Monday afternoon while on the way to my infusion and she has a shine mark and I think a little scratch on her forehead And I don't really notice it but this time I did .
And the original books were appropriate for thord grade when they came out. The sad thing is that within one generation the attention span of young children has become much worse. 😢

I’m glad you were finally able to hear from your family. I would have been worried sick for 4 days not hearing from them either. I’m also in NC and our county (Brunswick) got severe flooding the Monday before Helene. Luckily, things are better now but my heart breaks for western NC. I’m in complete shock. This just doesn’t happen to those areas… I’m sure Summer is going to be a top seller and especially this Christmas. I will be passing on her because she’s not quite my style.
I feel myself able to express a pair of considerations: - the tastes are tastes: as always, when there is a new product, some like it, others not, it is normal; about me, I like this doll, I find it very well made... only the glasses are not very cute, I like her more without them; - the new characters, unfortunately, have not more the same appeal of the historical ones; for example, Samantha, Rebecca, Molly and even Nenea (the ones I own) are probably on another level: are true heirlooms, while these new ones are more toys and less for collectors; anyway, by the few I know, the character of Summer is really not bad: I even share her passion for baking. Alhough I live in Italy, I love these dolls: sometimes I feel as they have a soul 🥰.

My Summer also had a small frizzy section in her hair when I got her (the weekend after she released?) and it has already really calmed down and relaxed. I think they shud make more graphic novels, kids really enjoy them because of the pictures and story alongside each other and I think that would really help to connect the character to the kids and to us collectors too in a fresh way

For those that care about the eco friendly changes, I can COMPOST the paper piece that holds Summer's book. That is huge. That's like the BEST way something can come to us. I can't with the box because of the ink film, but it's a great start!

I honestly was super disappointed by Summer’s release. I loved Pleasant Company as a kid because it was the anti Barbie. When Mattel bought the company I was so upset and told my family “everything is going to be hot pink and plastic.” Summer’s collection feels very Barbie to me, I could see the entire thing copy/pasted into a Stacie set. THAT SAID, watching your video, I actually LIKE her in the context of your cute 80’s 90’s nostalgia in the background. Especially in her Waggy Pup Tails outfit, she vibes with all the colors of your Barbies, My Little Ponies, and caboodle behind you, not to mention the AG 80s and 90s stuff. For the first time for me, i can see that in the right context she is super cute. She fits right in with your collection. I’m not surprised that you love her. I guess getting upset about a Doll of the Year is more understandable than a TM because some people want to collect the whole line. But, I feel like many collectors are too demanding and self-centric. I see a lot of this from collectors of other lines I also collect like Integrity and Barbie. I know almost no one has enough money and space to buy every doll that comes out anyway. So, I think we should be happy if the companies make business decisions that they (with full information) feel are in their best interests, still try to listen to collectors, and continue to make at least a few dolls and clothes that we like each year. I loved Corrine and Kavi, didn’t get Lila, and might get Summer for the base doll when she eventually goes on clearance in a year or two.
I think her meet outfit would be more interesting if you could separate the top from the bottom, making a bit of a crop top and skirt. Would give it more versatility. Do you think it would be easy to do? Without having seen it in person, I don’t know where the stitches are. But it looks like there is some kind of waist seam under the bow. I was also bummed to see there was no boy outfit for the Christmas release.

I love Summer, and I’m in my mid-30s. I love rainbows and bright colors. I bought her the day she came out. I am also disappointed that there is yet another GOTY who is not Black. That doesn’t take away from me liking Summer as a doll, though I’m disappointed in AG’s decision. I didn’t personally love Lila, so I didn’t buy her. I don’t think it needs to be any deeper than that, but I feel some people just need to share all of their disappointments.
I'm not american, so I didn't grew up with AG, to me all the hate she is getting seems absurd. She's cute and she truly looks like a child, her collection too is childish and cute. This has been one thing I don't love about AG, how this are supposed to be 9 year olds but they wear clothes that look made for older children or tweens. Personally it sounds dumb to expect a brand to teach your kid life lessons or relevant stuff, maybe I'm too old fashioned but parents should be reading along with their kids instead of blaming AG on why kids aren't reading anymore.
The doll had a very pretty but her Meet outfit is not quite to my liking. If i didn't already have too many dolls, i would definitely get her, and just change her into different clothes.

I think it is important to remember that Summer was made to sell to children. Not to teach them history or anything else of value, really. Just fills a desire for some level of fantasy. At least I don't think she reflects how young girls dress in the real world. I don't see 8-10 year olds in rainbow colours and skirts. I passed up on it. Ot didn't speak to me.this time.
Your new doll does look preppy, how about “ Candace / candy for short… My opinion on the criticism much of it was valid , but that doesn’t take away the fact that doll is cute, it’s just not for me.. Johnny Did pleasant Roland come up with the idea for Girl of the year dolls I'm just curious because they are marked pleasant company on their necks and their books say pleasant company Publications or something like that even Marisol has pleasant company too on her neck and book
Once Mattel purchased the company they continued to use the Pleasant Company stamped heads until they were out of stock. To my knowledge, Pleasant only created the dolls that were available before she sold, though I think Kit may be an exception.
I don't get the hate either, besides the representation criticism at least. she's SUCH a cutie and at least her fashion is fun when kids today are trying to dress more and more "mature"
Activities for future GOTY Are kids not still in: Scouts/Guides earning badges of all sorts Cross-country running /SKIING and orienteering? Syncronized swimming? Learning to knit/crochet from a live-in grandparent? Going fishing with their father or grandfather? I think we have to make them do something rather ordinary but maybe create the excitement by some mystery or drama happening in the story. I am tired of stages and stores. It is all so inappropriate for the age group. I want kids to really be able to relate to them.
She's cute. Just too much rainbow but you can always redress her. Would mske a good first AG doll. I have a soft spot for dolls with glasses. Her hair color reminds of G1 My Littile Pony Butterscotch i don't see it that often.

As a 3rd grade teacher, the “journal” style books are incredibly popular. To me it just seems like they are trying to appeal to their audience.

I never liked Nanea mold till Summer. I think I need her. But I must sell some dolls first!

I love Summer, and I’m in my mid-30s. I love rainbows and bright colors. I bought her the day she came out. I am also disappointed that there is yet another GOTY who is not Black. That doesn’t take away from me liking Summer as a doll, though I’m disappointed in AG’s decision. I didn’t personally love Lila, so I didn’t buy her. I don’t think it needs to be any deeper than that, but I feel some people just need to share all of their disappointments.
I'm not american, so I didn't grew up with AG, to me all the hate she is getting seems absurd. She's cute and she truly looks like a child, her collection too is childish and cute. This has been one thing I don't love about AG, how this are supposed to be 9 year olds but they wear clothes that look made for older children or tweens.
Personally it sounds dumb to expect a brand to teach your kid life lessons or relevant stuff, maybe I'm too old fashioned but parents should be reading along with their kids instead of blaming AG on why kids aren't reading anymore.
We just got some boy outfits with the team AG track suit so maybe that’s why they didn’t do a holiday one this year ?
Finally it was such a bummer hearing people tear apart a doll that's so much like me🤦🏽♀️
The doll had a very pretty but her Meet outfit is not quite to my liking. If i didn't already have too many dolls, i would definitely get her, and just change her into different clothes.

I think it is important to remember that Summer was made to sell to children.
Not to teach them history or anything else of value, really. Just fills a desire for some level of fantasy. At least I don't think she reflects how young girls dress in the real world. I don't see 8-10 year olds in rainbow colours and skirts.

Your new doll does look preppy, how about “ Candace / candy for short… My opinion on the criticism much of it was valid , but that doesn’t take away the fact that doll is cute, it’s just not for me.. Some were being mean just because , and yes that can be infuriating, but that’s something part of any collector community, it’s part of every community…. Happy to hear you , and your family are safe.
Johnny Did pleasant Roland come up with the idea for Girl of the year dolls I'm just curious because they are marked pleasant company on their necks and their books say pleasant company Publications or something like that even Marisol has pleasant company too on her neck and book
Once Mattel purchased the company they continued to use the Pleasant Company stamped heads until they were out of stock. To my knowledge, Pleasant only created the dolls that were available before she sold, though I think Kit may be an exception.
I don't get the hate either, besides the representation criticism at least. she's SUCH a cutie and at least her fashion is fun when kids today are trying to dress more and more "mature"

Cross-country running /SKIING and orienteering?
Syncronized swimming?
Learning to knit/crochet from a live-in grandparent?
Going fishing with their father or grandfather?
I think we have to make them do something rather ordinary but maybe create the excitement by some mystery or drama happening in the story. I am tired of stages and stores. It is all so inappropriate for the age group. I want kids to really be able to relate to them.

She's cute. Just too much rainbow but you can always redress her. Would mske a good first AG doll. I have a soft spot for dolls with glasses. Her hair color reminds of G1 My Littile Pony Butterscotch i don't see it that often.
I think Summer and her collection's aesthetic resemblance of G1 My Little Pony is a big reason why I really like her
