Lauries wife is South African and coached the Gauteng lions back in the early 2000s… he loves South Africa and obviously a proud New Zealander …
Yes he coached my team the lions, Carlos Spencer was also involved with us.
Laurie’s wife did not coach the Gauteng Lions. Pretty sure 😅
Laurie Mains coached the Cats. A combined Free State and Lions team, Rassie captained the team and Carlos Spencer came later during the Johan Ackermann era.
Laurie Mains - Legendary Coach & Highly Respected By Bok Fans! Always Talks With So Much Wisdom.
Pity he thinks a racial slur is ok in the heat of the moment
The complainant said he was called a white cunt, in Afrikaans.... wit Kant... Sounds exactly the same... Almost, there's reasonable doubt considering the character of the accused.
There was no such thing as a racial slur, only people who haven't lived in SA can believe such rubbish.@@davidvaughan4480
@@davidvaughan4480what racial slur? Because Curry doesn't speak Afrikaans and therefore accuses Bongi so it must be true? And yes, Bongi spent his first 10 years of schooling in Afrikaans speaking schools so he's fluent in Afrikaans which the Springboks use on-field throughout their games.
Laurie we miss you in South Africa! Legend coach, what a nice man, would love to see more of his wisdom on the game.
Leading Conspiracy Theorist on the "Suzie" issue....
Bongi was doing calls in Afrikaans for defence. He shouted out 3/4 times "Wit Kant" which means white side. There is a video clip evidence now on X.
There was manor friction between Mains and Rassie (obvious at the time and now per Rassie’s autobiographic), so max respect to Laurie for being gracious and respectful towards the mad scientist.
Great to hear from an absolute legend of the game. Pundits Cullen, Kirwan & co would do well to take a lesson from him on delivering quality balanced assessments of rugby!
Great contribution
thank you kindly
👊🔥❗️
South Africa prior to 1981 were kicking us. We have a 66% record now. Please correct me if im wrong.
Laurie Maines, as a Saffa this guy is one of the greats. He brought true rugby values and an a high intellect to the game.
Hi every body in the world following this world cup.. I think that you the world deserve this final.. This is what the world deserves
Arguably the abs and the boks have been the dominant teams throughout the games history
No argument New Zealand is the best by some distance, and South africa is second with a winning record against every side, except us
Arguably? South Africa didn’t lose a test series, home or away, between 1897 and 1956. Since 1995 NZ has been the most dominant team in all of elite sport.
With the exception of brief interregnums by England once, Aus twice, and lately Ireland, the either SA or NZ were #1 for 120yrs.
@@joedennehy386 The true yardstick, and the one that history will look at, is World Cup wins. 50% of all cups entered won.... I'd say SA is the best by some distance. NZ will NEVER, EVER get a 50% win rate in WC's. Never. AB's would have to win the next 4 in a row, and that ain't happening.
What the Boks have achieved is more special than any other achievement in rugby. And if you ask any All Black player whether he would rather have a high percentage win rate or a world cup winners medal.... you will get your answer. No argument. Case closed
Love his comment about sour grapes from England lol.
Thank you for your objectivity Laurie Mains. Much respect.
I remember Laurie being referred to as "funeral face" in 95...glad he's still around and able to add his knowledge.
🤣🤣🤣
The problem for Springboks is the number of big games they played week to week to get to this point. They looked nakkerd last week against England, and sadly, I think here lies the upper hand for NZ. The workload has been just tomuch for Bokke to get to this point, where the Kiwis has been sliding their way, that said in style, but not demanding on their physical welbeing. Saying that South Africans loves a never die challenge and if there is one nation or team to overcome the odds, it's the Safa's . Toughest people in the world that face daily challenges and are still getting up from the knees. That mental power can't be underestimated. Ods are against the Springboks just dew to amount of big games played all year long specialy pass 7 weeks, but mental power , believe and heart might just push them over to lift that cup again for every South African across the world. Love the Springboks ❤ @BokBefok j j
Fully agree. And even before the start of the WC, far more travelling during URC and Championship than the rest. So I think the boks will be out classed around 60min into the final.
Playing the top 5 teams in the world and beating the second ranked team twice is going to be sweet justice! Go Springboks!
@@CC-om8ze undeniable the best
Disagree only because of how well the whole squad has been used. I think they’ll come out absolutely hissing. Hopefully we’re too good on the night
Been a while since ive faced a wit kant in a mawl, brings back memories of Amsterdam
Great podcast 👍
Intressante bespreking!
Great stuff from a legend coach. Shout out from South Africa
Great to hear Laurie speak. He knows SA well and is so respected here, from coaching the Lion. About the "racial" slur, I think the Afrikaans word for "side" sounds like the C word in English. It would sound really bad if an Afrikaans speaking person said: "Choose your side" to an English person who doesn't understand Afrikaans😂.
Going to be epic seems weather not great so will be kicking and lineout and scrumming game GO BOKKE
Well said king Laurie maines
We will see how the depth that has been created is now used because of the heavy workload to get here… I’m sure Rassie and co will have this sorted no doubt
Thanks for a balanced discussion. No hyperbola.
Wise words…
Just to make it clear Mbonambi called out in Afrikaans that white 'England' is 'onkant' offside. If you directly translate to English you understand why Earl thought it was a racial slur. Why is everyone still talking about this...
Salty pommys maybe
Imagine if the accusation was the other way around. Mbonambi would be believed without question and Curry would be demonised. As for the theory that Mbonambi was misquoted and that he was speaking in Afrikaans is a weak defense. Why would he sledge an England player to his face in Afrikaans?
@@positvelymaybeits not a defense dunce...its fact. Wit is Omkant...means white is offsides! Lost in translation just like the Dali Lama projecting his tongue at a child. Grw the phck up know all!!
Then why did he refuse to shake Currys hand at the end of the game
@@joedennehy386 is there video proof of this?
A great southern man who took us to the final -
Laurie is fantastic.
Bongi issue should not even be discussed. For Curry to bring it to the attention of the officials is almost like the little boy in the playground running to the teacher on duty. These are men playing a serious contact game.
Do the ABs beat Ireland without what happened at Twickenham with SAF? They got 60 minutes of practice playing with 14 men - it came in pretty handy in the quarter final!
gree with you....the AB are ready for THIS one!!! bye twickenham hallo rwc final!!!
Yes they do, simply because the team that beat Ireland, was the same team ( except Leicester F ) that smashed SA in Auckland 3 months ago.
True All Black fans get behind the team regardless. Awesome stuff to all in the ABs team
Laurie Mains explain the racial issue from England as sour grapes
SO TRUE
Since you mentioned the draw...funny that England always tend to end up on the best side of RWC draws. Where is the IRB HQ again...?
Bongi Gate is absolutely ridiculous, even if it was true and he was not just talking in Afrikaans stating the obvious its always both ways and England relishes chirping opposition as well as their own team mates.
Lauri Mains very sensible views on Bongi situation and the POMS mentality
The French call England "Perfidious Albion".....meaning not to be trusted etc etc.(The Poms have all sorts of erroneously held beliefs about themselves (like the British sense of fair play...)
However one doubts whether the Poms would have contemplated food poisoning as a means to winning.THAT FACT was more to do with globalist objectives with Mandela and the all brand spanking new Rainbow nation.(this brand name has since been hijacked by an assortment of crypto-communists)
I think comments on the field was misinterpreted from Afrikaans to English. Nobody uses the C word.
If true, why would he say what he said?
@@frankchan5547 what did he say?

Onkant is offsides in Afrikaans
Bongi would not put himself or the team in that position,
Laurie Mains should take Mark Alexanders job... Really miss this guy such a class outfit and a national treasure to South Africa
That was not a racial slur! It was a Afrikaans/English translation issue.
I can understand peoples complaints with the draw. But it doesn't really matter in the end. We could've had four blowouts in the quarters and two great semi finals. Instead we got two great quarters 1 great semi and 3 blowouts. The draw doesn't change the results. Ireland and France would've lost in the semis if we just swap the games around, so what difference does it make. The two teams who beat Ireland and France still made the final.
wasn't it 4 great quarter finals?
Springboks played the top 5 ranked teams in the world to get to the final. Of course that matters. That has never happened before.
@@CC-om8ze They didn't though did they? They've played 6 games at this World Cup to make the final and two of them were Tonga and Romania. For your statement to be true one of them would have to be top 5. England also weren't in the top 5 when the World Cup started and only are now because other teams beat Scotland, so that barely counts. They've played 3 top 5 teams. It's been a weird draw for sure, but the two best teams are in the final. That would've happened whether SA beat France in the QF or the SF. What difference does it make if SA vs France and NZ Vs Ireland were semis instead or quarters. No difference at all. Both teams would've still had to win the games.
@@nickbassett1964 🤦🏻 Bull! Springboks also said that the Tonga game was the most physical out of all the teams they played and that was said after Englands defeat. No team except the Springboks could’ve survived this incredible journey and there will at the very least be a documentary made of this one day. Mark my words. No team on this planet has an answer for our physicality in the scrums. That’s why wit puppets are trying to diffuse Rugby scrums now by changing the rules yet again.
@@CC-om8ze Whether any other team couldve done it doesn't make your statement about the top 5 true. If you had played the top 5 you would've played the All Blacks already and yourselves. You're trying to tell me with a straight face that Tonga are a top 5 team? They've always been physical, doesn't mean they're good.
Your scrum might be the strongest, what's that got to do with my point on the draw. Now you're just trying to cope. That's like the All Blacks saying no team can cope with their skillset and speed they play with. The only way SA can handle that is if the ref allows them to waste time and have water breaks. But what does it matter at the moment, the final hasn't been played yet. Both teams have a shot at winning.
Let's not forget SA got away Deon Fourie being tackled and going again without releasing the ball the phase before Snyman scored against England. Should've been an England penalty not an SA try.
We as South Africans don't use the word though.
Curry confused kant with cunt. They both sound the same. Apparently, he said with kant or wind gat! Direct translation from Afrikaans to English which doesn't work.
The Stiffs at World Rugby including the CEO Stiff should be on reviewed appointments
Anyone want to know what the word for side is in Africans ?
Kant.
...can'ts or cans...we shall see! 🤷♂️
yea its Kant
Don't be a Kant!
Simple Google translation will answer this for you. For ease it's kant.
Hierdie kant
Daai kant
Ander kant
Jou kant
My kant
Rooi kant
Swart kant
Google them all. There's more languages than English in the world- SA has 11 alone.
Regarding the draw, it should be pointed out that NZ were drawn on the same side as the so-called tougher side of it too and had to overcome the World's Number 1 team (Ireland) in the QF as well as France in their pool too. SA fans were all calling the England match to be a walkover before the game, so what eventuated with a tougher game than expected had nothing to do with the draw itself. It is just England raised themselves to the occasion and the Springboks had to deal with it.
But South Africa played all the top nations in this world cup. All of the top 5 teams in the world anyway. New Zealand only played 3 with SA this coming weekend. I would argue that the Boks had the tougher draw than any other team.
BS most SA fans knew England would be extremely tough and remember what they did to NZ in WC19
@@grantrau3066 True, none of us said it would be a walk over. Rory is talking kak
No matter who you support...the IRB need to wake up
Nah mate, they've been the two dominant teams for the last 120 years. Boks didn't loose a test series for the first 50 years of the 20th century. We all know the AB's winning % stats. 3 World cups each etc etc.
Apparently , Bongi said " Wit Kant" which means in Afrikaans " White side", he did NOT say White C--t.
The All Blacks didn't have poor form leading into the RWC. People at large have read far too much into the two reversals (FRA & SA). What about FRA losing to Scotland, & nearly losing again in the second test; plus, SA losing at Mt Smart Stadium & against IRE in this tournament. According to the critics, a team would never have to lose to be considered successful. Conversely, when the All Backs consistently win there is huge criticism that rugby has become too one sided. Damned if they lose & damned if they win. My advice? Make up your 'b' minds once & for all & let the recent performances sort all of you out quick smart. Go, All Blacks & make in FOURRRRRRR!
The difference this time is the all blacks won't be poisoned..
Dont automatically decide that what Bongi said was in fact a racial slur when in fact it was probably something else said in his own language. That is unfair.
the old school coaches always spit that gospel.......
Curry made his complaint early in the game not after.
Curry se tril!
@4:22 yes, but... the two best knock-out games of all time _were_ played. Who really cares if they were QFs instead of SFs or F? Sponsors? But I doubt sponsors lost too much ad revenue on this. Players? Do they get more winnings if they make it further through the tournies? Maybe that's a good case for putting all Pro players on salaries, rather than bonus incentives. Money should be off the table, it distorts and corrupts. Give them career security and make the joy of the game the incentive. But sure, also the IRB is dopey to make the draw before the closest to tournament rankings are in.
In the last 10 years we played them in the world cup they never score I try against the boks
Bongi said DIE KANT lol check translation
Omg if France and Ireland won no one would be talking about the draw😂😂 so it not the draw if the Ireland won everyone would be saying the draw was good because nz was not top in the world rankings so be quite and stop complaining about the draw Ireland and France just weren't good enough in the world cup simple
Laurie Mains is not Irish or French so which dog does he have in that game? It's patently retarded to rank and seed teams 4 years out from a competition. Even from a spectacle point of view, it makes much more sense to have the best teams who happen to also play the most entertaining rugby compete against each other at the later stages with maximum jeopardy and the most riding on it. Who wants to watch a semi final like the New Zealand vs Argentina game? That was a pool game/training match with a dead atmosphere.
Laurie Mains, the losingest coach in All Black history. 67.83% fozzie has just crept ahead in the last two weeks. So the title is still Lauries. Boks are fatigued they have had 3 more hard games than NZ
The only extra hard game they had was vs scotland. SA showing their real quality v france and england lol, which they should have lost both of those. Those aren't tougher games, they just lack quality

As a South African, I have massive respect for Laurie. He tells it like it is. I also love (and share) the distain he has for World Rugby.
The reporting could have been a bit better regarding Mbonambi - he is accused of saying something but there is a plausible language explanation and no actual hard evidence (despite the British press trying their best to make something out of it). It's a nothing burger.
As for the final - i disagree that the Boks will necessarily kick more. The ABs tend to kick more than the Boks and the team that tends to kick more tends to win in this day and age.
Both teams have really good backs who can exploit mistakes. The real difference between the teams will be in the pack and with the subs. If the ABs can hold their own up front (they don't even need to dominate) and if their aubs can match the Bok subs' energy, then they ABs are in with a good shout.
Things are said on the sports field. If it puts you off your game and you complain about it. Personally, I believe you're not mentally strong enough!
Also. If he called him a white c**t. Maybe he was referring to the colour of his jersey!
English player has been banned for a racial slur. There's no room for racism. Football soccer bans it, why not rugby?
In afrikaans 'kant' means 'side'

What slur did you hear son?
its to Curry's credit that he is not taking any further and if it was the other way round a white player would be chopped off at the ankles. i don't see any English sour grapes
Hey everybody, he called me a name and it hurt my feelings. Gawd almighty harden the fork up.
There’s no forcing , either you’re a racist or not just don’t be a chicken too.
Nonsense. There was no racial slur. South Africans don’t use the word c@nt at all. He was most likely shouting to his cappy that Curry was “omkant” (offside) and curry heard what he heard. Interesting that he doesn’t want to take it any further, he most probably realised his mistake.
The sound clip came out regarding Bongi. It was picked up on the ref mic he it was clearly heard. He said, as SA was playing the ball, "speel wyd kant" meaning play wide side. Which sounds similar to White C%#t. 'Kant' is a Afrikaans word which means side. This word is used a lot in games as 90% of SA players speak Afrikaans. It is a nothing burger. Just soar grapes from Curry.
It doesn't sound similar... it sounds exactly, precisely identical 🤣

Read this newspaper report!! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This year’s Rugby World Cup Final will take place on Saturday between the rampant All Blacks and their traditional rivals, the Springboks.
The All Blacks stormed into yet another final with a try-fest as their star winger, and tournament-leading try scorer, ran in a hat trick of tries against their hapless opposition.
The Springboks, however, narrowly scraped through their rain-drenched semi-final, with a lone try ultimately deciding the result. Unconvincing at times throughout the tournament, the Springboks face a mighty challenge in trying to stop their much-favoured opponents this weekend.”
