I worked with an Indian guy. We got to talking about food in general and he asked me if I ever tried Indian food. I said never have. The next day he brought some from home. Don't know what it was called, some kind of chicken. It was spicier than I was used to but BOY IT WAS GOOD. He went home and told his wife how much I enjoyed it. Next day at work, he told me his wife invited me over for dinner. The spread she made was incredible. I tried everything, it was all so good. I asked her if she toned it down at all since I was a novice. Nope. Seriously, I was MMM-MMMing the whole time. She looks at her husband and said "See? HE LIKES it!" Hey, I didn't come here to start a fight! That followed with a huge laugh. The only thing I didn't do was ask what it was all called. I didn't want her to think I was being rude. I did go to Indian restaurants and described what I wanted and they were real nice about it. I still can't remember what it's all called 🤔
There is also a brown sweet dip for the samosas..this is only the tip of the iceberg as every state in India has different cuisines..❤try shahi paneer(cottage cheese) next time..Indian flavour is made from spices like turmeric, saffron, cumin etc and herbs which are healthy..if you find it spicy, order a mild spice level
Brits love Indian food and their national dish is chicken tikka masala for the past few years, overtaking fish and chips. I don’t why North America is so scared of Indian food.

Hello🙂 i just wanna say a few things, just a casual indian person here, when you said that back in the day people used to joke about this food and all, it finally made total sense to me why a good amount of people used to be relectanct on trying it, i completely understand that growing up we tend to believe what we hear and soak in the environment, which is why i absolutely do not blame anyone on having serious opinions about the food, but all i wanna say is, thank you soo soo much for giving this cuisine a try, i genuinely feel cheerful, even though you weren't much open about trying other things you still did this, so yes, thank you soo much, and i really hope that you found that food even decently enjoyable😁
Don’t forget 70% of the world spices come from India including cumin. Columbus was looking for India because of spices, clothing including silk. But rediscovered North America
Other than Punjabi food: Gujarati, maharastran, indo-Chinese, goan, Kashmiri, East Indian/nepali, South Indian (including Bengali) and of course street food
