Quinns always looks like he's just rolled out of bed with a simply exquisite hangover. Like a boss
I’m pretty sure that’s what actually happens lol
So that's what Gwent was based off. Interesting
Reminds self to read comments first before commenting...
@Alfredo... what? why?
ya neat how witcher managed to transform the multiplayer aspect of it into a 1v1
@@snowwarden3711 also interesting how they didn't give any mention of it at any point
@@milomaher1582 They have, many times, especially early in the development.
2:40 that was indeed a cool clock wipe lmao
I've known how to play this game for years. Still went and watched the whole thing cause these guys are just delightful! Keep up the great work, SUSD
Me too
Well, that goes on the list!
ONE HUNDRED POUNDS ON AMAZON.
*prints own copy*
80 $ on Amazon.ca, 25 $ at my LGS and 10 $ on eBay. Scratching my head.
I was looking at this a few times at my FLGS over the tears but never pulled the trigger.. even when it was marked down as clearance for $10.. I've regretted those decisions a lot after getting a chance to play it.
Great video guys!
"Lies, within lies, within lies"... I heard that and immediately thought of Dune... could be an interesting retheme... "Plans, within plans, within plans"...
This game is awesome. My brother managed to get a Chinese copy and lent it to me. I had no idea this game even existed, then I did some research and found out that you guys had made a video about it years ago. Everybody I've shown this to and played it with loves it!
This is still a fantastic game. Still one of my favorite games of all time.
Looks like a fun game! Might take a bit to explain to some friends but it seems like once you start playing a couple of games everyone will pretty much get the gist of it. Also, love the twists they took with this one, definitely might have to give it a try! 👍
A new version is coming out!!
Been waiting a long time for this game to become available again. I’m a huge fan of Gwent and naturally, this game is highly recommended for anyone who wants something similar.
I do love the look of the new Z-Man version. They actually printed a summation of the special cards on them so it’s easier to remember what they do at a glance (rather than just having some archaic symbol).
Won’t get it until August though 😳 hoping for some good, social, poker-like nights with this one!
The 3rd edition rule is presented here perfectly. I always played Condottiere according to this rule version, and it was always a hit. But many fans strongly prefer the 2nd edition rule. Which one do you guys think the better? Quinn I am really curious of your opinion too.
@@Boardgamegyrl I don't know which one the big box is. I suppose you mean the latest edition which has the 3rd edition rules presented in the video. But it also contains the strongly preferred 2nd edition rules. Major differences, in 2nd edition the pope ends the battle immediately, nobody wins, no springs, no spies.
I kinda want to get this just to slowly build out my board game collection so I can build a full map of Europe. I already have Spain and Portugal covered by El Grande. This would cover Italy...next...?
Wallenstein - Germany (and some adjacent regions). The King is Dead - Great Britain.
Hansa Teutonica for Germany
and Brian Boru: High King of Ireland
Similar to Gwent from the witcher 3 game sounds like it's worth a try
fun fact they based gwent off of this i believe.

Me, a Gwent player: Don't cite the deep magic to me, witch, I was there when it was written.
"where is Dad?"
what a lovely quick strategic game :)
This really helped us out, thanks a lot. Lots of love, your boyz from Brabant!
Just picked up my copy from Ebay for like $9. It is the japanese version but its ok because there is only numbers on the cards.
I downloaded the english rules here:

I still don't understand the clean up phase; assume we play a round and player 2 won the battle.
Next, we immediately start another battle, but then, after a few cards have been played, all players but one have run out of Mercenary cards.
What happens here? Does the remaining player forcefully discard his hand and we reset the deck and deal cards and continue the same battle?
Just realized that the game I was making is very very similar to this game and I forgot the name so I spent so long looking for one of your reviews for it and then I found it in the how to play, luckily mine has the same concept of fighting over land but my game had betting for the land and instead of trying to control the most land your trying to get the most coins
im disappointed with the lack of people mentioning "CARDSSSSSS!!!"
Just saw this video today, thibking on getting the game.... hugs from.spain quinns
Quinns, have you tested any other rules of the game from another edition? Which one do you think it's the best one?
Greetings from Brazil. Love the show.
The spring and winter removed from the table when the battle is over, right?
Yeah
Condottiere: should really be Condottiero.
The game could do with a better iconography on the cards, explaining what they do
Does keeping two cards mean they have 12 cards in the next round, or they only draw 8?
I actually don't recall that rule he talked about from when I played it, and I didn't see it in a (brief) look at the rules online so this might be a rule carried over by him from a previous edition (there's 3) or maybe a variant .. According to the 3rd edition rules though, you did get 10 cards + one for each area you owned.
12 cards
First player plays a 10. You play a 1.
First player, “bugger!”
Is there more strategy for Spring other than covering up Winter? It seems like it does noting. If I have 10 power and my opponent has 7, I am winning by 3. If Spring is out, I have 13 power and my opponent has 10, I am still winning by 3. How is this adding anything except extra math? Am I missing the genius of this?
It only applies to the card/s with the highest power, not all cards on the board. If you have a 10 and your opponent has two 6s, they're beating you by 2, but if you play a spring your 10 becomes a 13 and now you're winning by 1
Also it doesn't apply to the Heroine, whose power can't be changed, so it's a very effective counter to the "Heroine in winter" trick Quinns describes
Dang it- now I want this!
Are the rules explained the new FFG rules? I heard that the original rules are better.
if you don't win the fight, do you pick the cards back up, or do you lose them?
you lose them. managing your hand and not overcommitting is a key part of the strategy
Looks a bit like a Multiplayer version of the 2 player game Sun Tzu. Interesting game but if the prices some folks are mentioning are correct I think I will pass :(
Very nice review. Thank you very much
Been trying to get this for like forever :'(
Tenzuuu
3min in the red already has 3 adjacent.
Knight Man Cometh
What about dogs of War?
We loved Dogs of War: www.shutupandsitdown.com/review-dogs-war/
@@shutupandsitdown great news
It’s Italian. Pronounced ‘con-dott-yair-ray’.
How about the new edition???
what did he say at around 18 seconds? tsuso? o.o
tricky... but I like this game!
You misspelled crockinole.
Does anyone know where I could find a copy?
I am have the same issue, I think at this point the game basically isn't around anymore, save some more expensive ones in places such as ebay.
For instance I looked on websites like Zatu games and whilst they have good prices and can notify you when the game will next be available, it is my suspicion that it won't be available ever again unless it receives a reprint.
I'm going to keep looking though; I really like the look of this game!
The 3 in a row or five otherwise is the same as battle line!
Just as I typed that Quinn's said battle line.
It reminds me a bit of High Society
Is this inspired by or did this have a had in inspiring Gwent?
Google "Gwent: Condottiere under another name"
Why does this remind me of gwent?
Gwent is pretty openly based on it.
it's what gwent seems to be based on.
Gwent?
Why don't they put text on the actioncards, to remind people what they do ;)
Does anyone else get Munchkin vibes of this?
pathetic gwent rip-off, i hope CDPR sues them
Keepo
This game was published in 1995 and Gwent is a reimplementation of it.
yes, i'm aware of it
