She didn’t write music , but covered many famous artists, told her backup band to go on their own.. they became the eagles
Queen of Rock & Roll
She has sold over 100 million records singing many genres.
The pride of Tucson, Arizona!
She crossed genres easily and often. I can't think of another singer who could belt rock and also sing with such crystalline delicacy as Linda. My vote for greatest all-around female singer ever. And, God, she was beautiful.
She's great BUT not as great as Bonnie.
@@musik102 Bonnie who?
@@theexmann I hope you're joking!
@@musik102 Nope.
@@theexmann Well, there you go. It takes all types.
Linda is so cute....and happens to be the greatest, most diverse female vocalist of her generation.
If you liked this you’ll love Long,Long Time. You have to give it a listen. It’s Linda a her best.
She's really extraordinary singer...
The finest voice to ever grace popular music.
Amen
Hall-of-fame-Linda Ronstadt. Stevie Nicks once said that when she was starting she just wanted to sing like Linda so much she manage to sound like her until she came to her senses. Linda is highly respected and admired by her colleagues. Somehow the media has forgotten her after all those hits she spawned in every genre she tried.
How many singers can brag they've pulled hits in country, folk, rock, pop, mariachi...within 2 decades?
And American Standards, Light Opera, and blues.
There's no one. Linda remains in a class, by herself. It's encouraging that folks are beginning to realize, what many of us already know.
You forgot Broadway, Pirates of Penzance.
Many of us have not forgotten.
None. That’s how many.
Wasn't really into her music but she is hands down the greatest female singer ever.
Linda Ronstadt can sing almost anything and do better than most. Love Her. She is also highly intelligent.
Forgot to mention that 3 guys in her backup band by the name Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon with her encouragement went on start their own band. You may have heard of them The Eagles.
One of the greatest voices ever in music......from Arizona.
German immigrant father and Mexican born mother. Together they produced Gold.
Tucson.
I have 2 AGREE.SHE IS PERFECT & FLAWLESS.Hi from Carmen in NORTH CAROLINA🇺🇸🎵🎶🎧
@@2zxodcfm Mexican father, german immigrant mother. Her father sang traditional mexican folk songs.
@@Patrick-tq5jo Patrick, my misunderstanding. Her father was of Mexican and German heritage. Her mother was of German, English and Dutch extraction. Not so long ago I watched the recent year documentary on her life. This mistake provides me with reason to rewatch it. No hardship in that she is easily a favorite singer of mine.
Olivia Newton John was a terrific singer. But with Linda Ronstadt, we're talking a whole other league. In my opinion, anyway.
Absolutely.
I totally agree with you.
I loved Olivia her voice and saw both these women live. While Olivia was one of my favourites over the years, like you said, Linda was in a whole different league. The power and tone of her voice was amazing. I have every album from 1967 till her last. She could sing any style of music and duet with anyone.
Your right
Agreed! Linda has done so many crossovers..including operetta…she can sing any genre to a T!
She's one of my favorite singers of all time
Me also...get a copy her greatest hits Petra..hervoice is soothing. But she has a big voice you will find out the more go listen....blue Bayou. Silver threads and golden needles..etc etc...
@@mstewart109 and get Heart Like a Wheel.
There are two kinds of men in this world. Those with a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who never heard of her." - Willie Nelson.
I loved Linda Ronstadt... she was big during my college days in the late 60's - early 70's. Such a beautiful voice.
Yeah, Linda is really somethin'. A real force of nature. She could sing it all, any genre
Greatest female vocalist in the history of recorded music, in my opinion.
You’re going to love her even more when you get into her catalog. Rock, county, opera, big band and for flavor to celebrate her Mexican heritage sang in Spanish .She could do anything. You mentioned Dolly Parton . She with Dolly and Emmy Lou Harris and called themselves The Trio. Some beautiful music. One the greatest female singers of all time.
The best thing about the Trio albums were the beautiful harmonies by three of the best voices in music.
Love 'The Trio'. Petra, if you really want to relax and be soothed, give The Trio, a listen. Linda, Dolly and Emmylou. Golden.
Chills!! The moment she started to sing and I listen to her almost everyday. This song got me. Listen to, Someone to Lay Down Beside Me.
Linda's been around forever. I 1st heard her with the Stone Ponies back when we were all hippies. Amazing voice!
@Christine Pattison Yes, and Different Drum, written by Mike Nesmith, of The Monkees. Linda soars on that one, with The Stone Ponyes.
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best. One of my favorite lyrics of all time is “If I could only see that familiar sunrise through sleepy eyes how happy i’d be”. From Blue Bayou. Thanks Petra!
Well, you can thank Roy Orbison for that line... ;-)
@@s1d299 Roy wrote some wonderful lyrics.
Hi Petra, Linda was part of the burgeoning new wave of music coming out of California in the 70’s called country / rock and it’s very very big here in the US. Linda later became much more than just rock, country folk or pop music, her voice was very versatile and could adapt to other genres of music such as opera or Broadway musicals which she was very successful at, a Legend in every sense of the word.
You're No Good, Blue Bayou, Tracks of My Tears are a few of my faves from her. Great reaction, hope you sleep well.
Linda was one of the best female pop/rock singers ever, along with Ann Wilson of Heart and Janis Joplin. It's nice that you have picked a song from her to react to. Her voice was very beautiful and powerful when she did rock.. Also check out "You're No Good" and "Tracks of My Tears" for something a little more lively.
One of Linda's most beautiful songs of which there were many. Back in the days when people could still meet for concerts and didn't have cell phones. One of my regrets is never making it to a Linda Ronstadt concert. A true legend.
Linda Ronstadt was part of an American genre of rock/country from the late 60s and 1970s. Others from that genre include The Eagles, Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon and at times would work with each other. You might want to check out Blue Bayou from the same concert.
"Someone To Lay Down Beside Me" - It was in the same concert you just watched! - Please!
Wonderful singer , great song and breath taken on a fabulous
unforgettable flight . Only music seems to shake that blossom from some trees .
Take note .
She has such a huge catalog of beautiful music. Please do more of her.
Would love to see more reactions to Linda. She is wonderful. Her albums are full of songs like this
I saw her live in Ottawa in 1977.She had one of the best voices in the history of rock and country.
I Just love Linda Ronstadt....fabulous all the time, every time.
Petra, you are too young to remember her. She had a beautiful voice and she can since"opera". You could probably find recordings of her on Amazon. She was one of the best from that era. What a treat !! Thank you for that.
this leads me to search more for linda ronstadt songs.
cyrus delacruz You are in for the musical ride of your life. Buckle up!
Linda was one of the reasons why it was great to be a baby boomer. Such a pure voice and so much power out of a little woman.
Yes, her ballads were the best in my opinion. Try these: Love Has No Pride, Willin’, Desperado, Faithless Heart, Heart Like a Wheel, Tracks of My Tears, Crazy, Someone to Lay Down Beside Me, Blue Train, High Sierra, Feels Like Home, Talk to Me of Mendocino, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and Lion in the Winter. Truly every one of them is stunning. And there are many more. She truly is one of the best female voices ever in popular music. Great reaction, by the way! 🌸👍
Sea Breeze black roses white rhythm and blues
Jill Hensley Yes! Beautiful!
In addition to rock, pop country, she starred on Broadway in Pirates of Penzance, she released an album of traditional Mexican music(she was half Mexican- American), she did a couple of albums of American Standards with Nelson Riddle, and two albums with Emmy Lou harris and Dolly Parton. She was the voice of a generation.
Petra, your first impressions of Ms. Ronstadt were spot on! Immediately, you grasped her wit, down-to-earth style, the mesmerizing quality of her voice, and her love for ballads (She, too, would've loved to have sung only them in a concert; she knew she had to insert songs like "Heat Wave" and "You're No Good" so the audience wouldn't fall asleep like you said you were!). Your expression when she sang that first note was priceless. Her Tucson twang, little-girl speaking voice gives no forewarning to a virgin ear of what is to come.
I highly recommend you watch the 2019 documentary on her musical career-it's like a beautiful buffet that will give you a taste of her extraordinary and prolific career.
You mentioned you were pregnant. Well, despite the fact that Ms. Ronstadt had many a nice boyfriends (She describes herself as a "serial monogamist!"), she never married. However, she did adopt two children in the 90's that prompted her to record an album called "Dedicated to the One I Love," in which she took classic rock songs and sang them as soft lullabies. Once again, she"ll lull you to sleep in a good way.
All the best to you, Petra, and thank you for introducing Ms. Ronstadt to this generation. She really was quite something as a singer, and still is as a human being coping magnificently with a nasty, debilitating condition known as supra nuclear palsy.
i have quite a few Linda R songs in my collection on my phone. Somehow I had forgotten all about this one. It is a very old favorite that I just rediscovered thanks to your reaction! Mucho thanks!
A great talent silenced by disease. This is a remake of a 50s era Buddy Holly song, might take a listen to that sometime.
Everything she does has a lot of context.
She would have heard Buddy Holly's version of this Paul Anka song on the radio when she was about 8 years old.
I also read in an interview that she had a bad breakup as a young adult and sang this over and over to comfort herself. So your comment about her being in a 'song bubble' and inviting us in is spot-on.
She hits certain notes and my eyes tear up. It's non-voluntary. It's a response to pure beauty.
Petra, her best album in many ways is called :Hasten down the wind. you will love it.
"Lose Again" from that album is the song that shows off pretty much everything that she could do. The live performance from Atlanta in 1977 is the best singing by a woman I've ever heard. The Linda Ronstadt experience in concert was almost operatic. It was the glory of the human voice. Not the way Whitney, Celine, and Mariah show off, but just the beauty, the volume/power and the complete finesse without really any thought to technique which was just inherent to her singing. Her singing was simple. She didn't need to
melisma us to death.
These songs are my childhood my mom played all her songs all the time. She just came across all these videos we were laughing. Great to see someone hearing her for the first time. Her voice is so touching. Great video
OMG! I love Linda Ronstadt and I love this song! It brings back memories from my younger days. This is fantastic. It is so tragic that Linda cannot sing any more. But at least we have videos like this to help us remember. Thank you so much for this reaction!
Hey Petra, thanks for reminding what a grate singer Linda Ronstadt was. In college I was in love with her. Today I have come to understand how much that time has shaped me. Thanks for sharing. Steve.
I agree with You about it being very relaxing and calming. Beautiful Reaction Video Petra!... Lots of Love from the USA... Gene Johnson
Ive been following for years now
Two words: Gold Standard
she loved singing love song Mick jagger once told her she should sing more rock. but I love her rancheras like mi ranchito powerful voice in spanish
You should react to some of her mariachi songs like La Cigarra or Los Laureles-grammy live presentations. Powerful songs that go from belt outs to falsettos.
That is a Buddy Holly song she is covering.. Prisoner in Disguise (1975) / LINDA RONSTADT is a good album on you tube
Gotta say that the song "Prisoner in Disguise" is one of my fave songs of all time.... her and the great harmony by JD Souther.
absolutely beautiful lady with a great voice ! been listening to her since her first record played on the radio !
hello miss Sweden lovely to see your face when her beautiful arrived in your special soul
Saw Linda R in concert circa 1973. Soo wonderful. Ms Ronstadt was a virtuoso. Too good for anything now. Pure. No autotune. And she was so funny! Sweet. Her music runs the gamut. Her music helped me many a time and still does.
Linda can sing any genre. Country, bluegrass, pop, opera, Mexican, jazz, and she was the baddest rocker chick in the seventies. You have a large and varied volume of music to explore and it is all awesome. Petra is is great to see you again. I hope you and the baby are doing well.
Talented singer indeed. One of the best female voices ever. Many great songs to watch. Sorry for your struggles. Prayers
Every young man from my generation were totally in love with her. Listen to "Long, Long, Time".
Poor Poor Pitiful, Me When Will I Be Loved,That'll Be The Day,It's So Easy,Get Closer!!! Just a Few song's to Check Out
Linda Rules! She commanded the 70's and early 80's. Too bad she can't sing anymore! At one point in time I had every cassette she made.
Petra. Check out Linda Ronstad, Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris together. OMG these three lady's were the absolute best.
I almost requested one of those but settled on this one because I wanted her to get a taste of Linda by herself.
Every man of my generation was in love with Linda.
Yes. That picture of her on the 1'st "STONE PONYS" album!
I love both Linda and Stevie. They are both my favorite singers. Love you both! I have both of your vinyl record albums from the 70's and 80's. ❤❤❤
I hope you follow up on more Linda. She is THE outstanding vocalist of the second half of the 20th Century. She is in a league of her own,no other vocalist male or female was able to master so many genres of music. She is the absolute gold standard.
She has sold over 100 million records. Countless awards. Ist lady of rock.
Linda is the best vocalist ever.
Without doubt the best vocalist ever..
I’ve probably listened to this one of hers more than any other
As Ron Kennedy has commented, "we're talking a whole other league." Eleven Grammy's, 3 American Music Awards, 2 Academy of Country Music Awards, 1 Emmy, 1 Alma, National Medal of the Arts, Kennedy Center Lifetime Acjievement honoree, Rock &Roll Hall of Fame. She sang folk, country, rock jazz, American standards (big band), opera & Latin. She sang on120 albums, 31 of them platinum or gold. She is an American treasure.
Grew up listening to Linda. Also grew up playing guitar. I had no idea she could play guitar so well.
Linda sang different styles of music also. She sang rock and roll, country, old standards, and for a time she sang her family's cultural songs. I am glad you like her, and hope you get to listen to more of her.
If you are just learning about Linda, you have a lot of eye opening experiences ahead of you. Check out "Desparado"
Been awhile..brought back memories of lost 💘
I too wonder how you have never heard her before! Possibly the most versatile, and beautiful voice of her time.
I grew on her music a very soothing voice.
Love Linda Ronstadt probably one of the best póp/ rock singers ever
Happy to say, I saw her live around this time. ELECTRIC!
So glad you like her!
If this is your first exposure to her, you have just cast off on an amazing voyage of discovery - enjoy the trip!
Linda is a many levels above ONJ, as she is above most singers.
Two best voices in the 20th century: Judy Garland and Linda Rondstat.
Man, that girl could sing. Powerful and tender.
Linda always did cover songs but in such a way that she made them her own. This is an old Buddy Holly song.
I grew up on Linda’d music; it’s very sentimental for each. Thank you for reacting to this angel. This is my first time on your channel; new subscriber. The thing I love best about you is, you didn’t keep stopping and starting the video in order to comment as some do; I hate that. I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate you for that. I am so sorry you’re in pain, my darling, I have chronic pain, too so I get what it’s like. I hope you feel better.
She was such a great singer. You need to listen to her songs when she was with the group Stone Pony’s.
So wonderful that you too are taken by Linda's undeniable vocal abilities. However, she has no Olivia in her voice...Linda had perfect pitch and never used auto tune. She is one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th and dare I say 21st century. She is ...a magical unicorn I'm her vocal abilities. Sad to say she no longer sings due to Parkinson disease
This is one of my favorite songs by Linda. The other favorite is Different Drum.
If you want slow Linda songs, I would recommend her album Simple Dreams. I worn mine out as a teenager. There are "fast" songs but 6 of the 10 are beautiful ballads.
Petra, Her Blue Bayou would be they kind of song you will love, I'm sure. It's a soulful ballad that highlights her wonderful voice even more than this one does. Linda was a biggest selling female focalist of the 1970s though she seems largely forgotten today. She sang ballads like this, pop, rock, country and even traditional Spanish songs!
Note to Petra. Linda has sung so many different types of music, it is amazing. Look at these two recordings on youtube "Pirates of Penzance - Poor Wandering One" and "Linda Ronstadt - Cost Of Love (Official Music Video)". You will think, can this possibly be the same woman?
Love Linda, from my generation. Queen of Rock and best Female vocals ever in the Rock World...
Petra, it was sweet seeing your reaction to hearing Linda for the first time. Cheers...
The great LINDA RONSTADT.
I was going to name some of my favorite Linda's songs....but there are too many to name.
My favorite female singer of all time!! Please react to her Long Long Time
Great reaction!
100,000,000 albums sold by this Legend!
Hi PETRA!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME !!!!!
Glad to see you react to Linda covering this terrific Buddy Holly song. She covered several of his, and they were all fantastic. Here's what I posted on another site:
Linda Ronstadt broke the barriers for female artists with 5 platinum albums in a row in the 70's. Until Linda, no female had ever done that. She has sold over 100 million records, making her one of the best selling artist of all time. Linda was the female voice of her generation. And arguably, the greatest pop/country crossover voice of all time. Remarkably, with all her success and record sales, she only had one #1 hit: "You're No Good" Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/e0vJNp5asqc/видео.html She is, and always will be, my favorite female voice. And for me, her only competition is Angelina Jordan. It remains to be seen how Angelina will fare in her career (she's still a young girl), but if she can accomplish a small fraction of what Linda was able to do, she will have a great career. The sad part is that Linda's singing is over do to a progressive genetic degenerative disorder. A tremendous loss to the world that we can no longer hear her magical voice. A documentary on her life "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice", was filmed and aired in December, 2019, on PBS. Here's the link to the trailer: ruclips.net/video/eDMYAsu5PvI/видео.html It's a first class presentation of the life of this superstar. Thanks Petra, for reacting to this singing phenom. Best wishes. Billy J
She was a very versatile singer. She is still alive but doesn't sing anymore due to Parkinson's disease. You should check out her many other videos where she sings, Rock, Blues, Country, American Standards, Light Opera, New Wave, and Mexican Ranchera music. Probably the most versatile singer of the 20th Century.
I always loved this song by Buddy Holly. It was my go to break up song back in college in the latte 80s. Linda did a great job with this cover.
